+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xPrefer they admit they got it wrong only to chase the cash and tell us where the money will be spent at the very least And should also say that sorry to all us fans that have let us down and delete those shallow statements which dont improve our mood at all. Also for Danny Townsend to resign as I dont want him involved in our sport ever again after this. To be honest though, this league which has done almost everything wrong in a football sense since its inception in 2005 with the season length thats not suitable for global football standards to refusing to introduce FA's transfer system along with their preference for a salary cap this league has been about the the most important thing, the football! The only way to make amends is firstly they should restructure the board that should independent of the league the same recommendation that the Crawford report said in 2004 otherwise we keep on making the same mistakes! And secondly they should team up with Football Australia's plans for the NSD and create a blueprint for promotion and relegation and truly unite all football fans across the country regardless of who you support. Otherwise I will remain skeptical of a closed league model and goes against the wishes of open pyramid which it seems only encourages short term thinking and self interest for only the few franchises involved. Football is an inclusive sport that should be open to everyone, the current a-league model or say professional game model goes again this and its time something is done about it in my opinion. Enough to enough. Modern sport is a business and you can't necessarily run it purely based on a football traditionalists way of doing things. Not everything in life need to be sold off to the highest bidder and run according to accountants.
or should we all go out and get the sponsor tattooed across our eyelids? Exactly right. I'd imagine if they wanted to make even more money they could get sponsors painted all over the ground like they do in the NRL or the basketball but they don't. Probably shouldn't give them ideas. Guys, I get your anger but these are business...... The sad reality is that according to Australian law, the board of the APL is responsible to its shareholders and so YES "everything in life need to be sold off to the highest bidder and run according to accountants" I understand the realities but the blow back on this decision shows it BAD business. IMO lot more decisions could be made for a financially strong league. It's like the 'Subway' socceroos. This is not necessary. And to me damages long term. Of course, the golden rule in any business is "Know your market" I SHOULD be gloating about this in all fairness but I feel for all of the fans who feel so betrayed by their so called "clubs" The wages of "professional main stream success" are paid in "business only decisions" and if you are not involved in the decision you just have to put up with the outcomes or leave. The fact that these investors (mainly the foreign ones) just want to make a buck out of gullible "soccer consumers" shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.... This is what Lowy dreamed about...... This is what "football but not as you know it" was ALWAYS all about.... In my humble opinion the questions shouldn't be "What can APL do to win you back as a consumer?" it should now be "What can we, as a football loving public, do to make sure the game we all love is NEVER again controlled by people who dont give a fuck about it?" Perfect time to get involved as a voting member with any club in Australia (or even push your NPL franchises to set up as member controlled clubs outside the Aleague at least) . If the whole I don't like effnik people thing is a limitation then join one of the hundreds of non effnik NPL or state league clubs, get a a bunch of mates together and start playing "football manager" in real life... The clubs outside the APL umbrella are loving the new membership boost this has created and with pro/rel on the horizon to NSD planned this could be the circuit breaker need to finally get rid of the "new football v old soccer" divide old Franky created... Finally just "Aussie football" But the truth is - if you are talking about clubs that have always put football 1st, 2nd and 3rd, then you are talking about the likes of Hellas, Melbourne Croatia, Marconi, APIA, the various OLympics, etc, etc Oh c'mon. All these clubs put their club first not the greater good of the game. This romanticising the past is just as bad as the bagging of it Yeah mate, ofcourse they did..... they put their "FOOTBALL" clubs first. thats the point Bettega is trying to make... Strong clubs = "the greater good of the game" not how much revenue does Silverlake stand to make out of it?

Enough to enough. Modern sport is a business and you can't necessarily run it purely based on a football traditionalists way of doing things. Not saying that some of the old ways should not be implemented, on the contrary but it appears there are many here will never be able understand the administration of a professional league. Which is why im not bothered anymore, this is not a football league in my eyes. Without football merit incentives, then why should I come back? Ill stick to Euro football and local NPL where their are football incentives where any team has a change to do well regardless of what level they come from and this is what football is about and why its such a popular game all around the world. The grand final was the last and only tradition the sport has even though first past the post is used all over the world, the grand final is at least merit based. Its a shame the same vision isnt seen with the current administrators in Australia, until something changes I will remain disengaged. Taking it too far towards the traditionalist end because that's the kulcha, is not the way either. Not in this era. That's why I'm suggesting we look at the best of both worlds with due consideration to finances. There has to be compromises to make it work. Still spelling "culture" wrong Paulie? hahahahahahah I have no idea why he ever bothers changing names here. I'm sure you have too but not as often at least aha hahahah no bud, thats the ONE thing I can promise you, with all sincerity, I havent done..... I actually thought about trying to set up another account a while ago when you basically spent a whole week replying to every single one of my posts with "go fuck yourself" .... I was gonna respond to your posts and say "Yeah you filthy wog, like Davide says, go fuck yourself" hahahahahahah It would have been great fun. If I do ever, my second "persona" will be "Sir Frank" hahahahaha It makes me laugh when others do it though, earlier in the week I caught a fascinating conversation on performance based, coaching specific analysis criteria between one poster and his imagination .... c'est tres amusant . :)

Reductionist and disingenuous but I'm in a good mood today and can't be arsed *thumbsup* Youve put "arsed" and "thumbs up" far too close together syntactically? hahahahaha Freudian maybe? ahahahaaaaaa I properly laughed but trust a Greek to notice Hahahah hence the phrase "unna razza una fazza" hahahahahahah

Modern sport is a business and you can't necessarily run it purely based on a football traditionalists way of doing things. or should we all go out and get the sponsor tattooed across our eyelids? Exactly right. I'd imagine if they wanted to make even more money they could get sponsors painted all over the ground like they do in the NRL or the basketball but they don't. Probably shouldn't give them ideas. This romanticising the past is just as bad as the bagging of it Yes, in the sense that football clubs want to be successful in a football league. But it's still about football. They weren't in it to make a buck (you could never accuse NSL clubs of being in it for the money). They weren't in it to recruit players for the main club overseas, or to help with overseas tax planning. They weren't in it to try and grab cheap land to build housing projects. The people that currently own the A-League have a range of interests, none of which are about football. The extraordinary thing is that the reigning champion is actually there primarily to run a construction firm.

Are you telling me the old wogs on the club boards weren't using the clubs to do business deals behind the scenes unrelated to football?
I'm not defending the current set up at all by the way

Does my previous comments that you have responded to suggest that everything in life needs to be sold off or run only according to accountants when I said this? "That's why I'm suggesting we look at the best of both worlds with due consideration to finances".

Just reading another article that the A-League clubs have lost a total of $120 million over the previous two seasons. That's serious money. Paramount has cut the broadcast revenues because the A-League failed to meet benchmarks - so the situation might actually get worse this season.
All in all, in strict financial terms, the A-League is rooted - that's why it's chasing money from any source it can find.
And with Silverlake controlling one third of the league, it doesn't take too much imagination to work out: 1. who the primary mover might have been, and 2. with 2 Sydney clubs represented on the board - there would have been some eager seconders!!
