Sooner, rather than later I think. The ages of Warner and Khawaja mean we will be looking for two not one if we don't act. Warner will get a score if we give him enough chances but I fear it is only kicking the can down the street. The best young talent needs to be given an extended opportunity.

Selectors were way too quick to pull the trigger on guys like Hanno and in particular Maddo… With Puc on stress there’s not too many obvious candidates… Bancroft another chance???… Cartwright has been consistent for a while…
Chances are our selectors are on the phone to Joe Burns…

I think we need a good solid traditional oppening batsman sooner or later.
I would give Warner Melbourne and Sydney to turn it around, or go out with respect.

He needs more than just bottled lightning ton. He needs to show that this run is just form and not Father Time. I think he needs runs in all 4 innings, 50+ in all of them and a ton plus in one. One good innings and three fails is a a sign of time catching up and I suspect that’s where he’s at.

He just got old real quick, like Hayden and Ponting and a thousand others before him.

I heard a talking head on radio today saying Green’s a shot at opening. Not as silly an idea as his start to Test cricket would suggest. I think once he gets runs in a run he’ll get plenty. Those drives he pulled off the other day looked very opening batsman. Renshaw’s got to be a shot too, had a good season.

we will need two within a couple of seasons I think. One for India and England this year. I like the idea of big strong openers who drive off the front foot. It was said of Mathew Hayden once I heard only in the last year or so by one of his opponents (can’t remember exactly who) they he intimidated you running into bowl just by the sheer size and power of him, put his front foot down the wicket and smash it right back at you. Renshaw’s got that, Green could too if he gets his shit together

I think we need to persist with Green, young, exceptional fielder, good bat when confident and in form. So far his bowling hasn't convinced me, but he has all the physical attributes.

Green is apparently a nervous starter  so opener could go 2 ways. Opener doesn't give an opportunity to think too much about it.

Move Green up and I would still consider a specialist opener with Izzy dropping some where down the order.

We can be sure that there will be swing and seam in England, spin in India. Aside from Smithy and perhaps Labs I don't have too much confidence in our batting against the moving ball.

Conditions helped the bowlers and the SA batting was even more unconvincing. But so far it looks like below par SA batting side, probably the worst I have seen.

A lot of cricket in recent years has been tests on flat decks or T20 on flat decks. Grafting and surviving against good bowling on a deck offering assistance is another challenge. Often a dogged grinding  30-40 from a solid opener sets up an innings where 5,6,7 and the tail turn around 220 into around 370. In turn that innings sets up the win.

Rennie another dropped too soon…
Green certainly has the technique to bat up the order, but a little impatient at times…

I’m disinclined to defend the NRLol or RPLA in any way, shape or form…

I guess the main difficulty with it being set years in 3 years advance is the Length of the TV deal…

There should be no excuse however for it not being know the year before…

I believe  the current TV deal goes until the end of 2027.

I started to think more about it post posting… and figure even if the deal wasnt in place 3-4-5 yrs in advance, a great business should have some idea of projected revenue in 3 yrs… then should be able to work with clubs and have provisions for “if revenue increases or decreases by this much then the cap is affected like this”….

Time to refresh myself with ‘The Rugby League Digest’ podcast superleague shows… audio not great in early episodes but a great trip down memory lane…

Stranger decision to go in with 5 bowlers again for SA…

SA must have left all of their batsmen at home.

On a relatively flat pitch that was a spectacular collapse.....

In teams I played for, the SA bowlers would demand to bat in the top order, and force the so called batsmen to bowl.

It can't get much worse. 😉

On a more serious note, while the opposition has been surpisingly weak, the Aussie side is going better than I expected.

Fielding is looking very sharp, at times, the bowling has been very good, and the batting better than I expected.

If we tour  England, Boland would be well suited to English conditions.

I still wonder how our top order will go in England, but it would  be great to find out.

Beating the current Pom side in England would be a major achievement.

Is it time Cummins was stripped of the captaincy and it went back to Steve Smith?

Was Cummins purposely trying to rule Starc and Green out of the Sydney test or was he fearful that SA might score 500 odd in their 2nd innings? Either way, poor captain material.

They were both ruled out of Sydney and India at the end of day two. Playing day 3,4 or even 5 if came yo it made no difference at all. Just Green a shot at a high score, maybe a century and we needed Starc because while Green could bat he couldnt bowl.

and in case you havent noticed we’ve won everything we could since Cummins has been Capt (T20WC Finch was Capt) and have played the best cricket an Auddie team has since the Ponting era.

So, I think you should be stripped if your cricket credibility.

Good to see that you are equally knowledgeable about all sports.

Australia batted on because they were not sure that Starc could bowl in the 2nd innings.

If you are not happy with winning by an innings and Dman's batting average, you are hard to please.

The Australian fielding has been excellent all summer.

A team with good workrate, effort, execution and unity is the sign of a good captain.

The contrast between Cummins and Paine is odvious and there were aspects where the team didn't look as switched on with Smithy as captain. Langer was a bad choice as coach, perhaps Boof Lehmman was.

When a captaincy and coaching combination is working, don't change it.
