Headline - ‘Masturbating walrus ruins New Years eve’…

I can’t possibly see how a masturbating walrus does nothing but add value to any type of celebration… The fireworks look the same every year, everywhere… this would be a New Years that would be remembered fondly(ing)….

Re players off contract for 2024. All seems to have gone quiet except for several players re signing with their existing clubs.
Is it because new cap limit is only for 2023?
What about Matt Burton?
With the cap % spend requirement will current contracts just have to be upgraded?
The whole thing is a shambles, came too late to be taken into account when assembling 2023 rosters. Should be a rolling 3 year cap.
NRL would struggle to run a pub chook raffle.

On first viewing of the new season's jerseys I thought something didn't look right on the home jersey ie. the predominantly white jersey.
Now I realise why I don't like it - it has too much white - there is no blue on the shoulders nor the sleeves . This is the first time i can recall our jersey lacking the shoulder "pad" blue look- looks too light and not "tough' enough without that blue shoulder and sleeves. A little bit of tradition has slipped away.  I wonder did they consult the members. Can any member on here tell me if they did?

So..... once the Aussies get to 500 runs and declare, and assuming SA are all out for around 200, do we bat again to push the lead to 400 or do we try to win the game?

This is where you apply circumstance. No immediate follow up Tests, so no need to rest the bowlers, rain is in play. So get all your runs and try to win it off one inns.

Theres no black and white rule, you just bat again every other time, but not this one - circumstance.

Looks like being rained out, this is the test I normally attend. Missed some good batting yesterday, but overall a fizzer.

So very happy. He is the next great half. He will be better than Freddy.

Next sign a superstar halfback and we win the 2024 premiership.

Reports that he will only be on 750k as well. While I'm skeptical of that low figure, gives us plenty of room for more signings as the cap increases.

Averages out at $750k per reports, first two words are very important given he’s on less than $600k for ‘23… or was maybe it’s part of the upgrade. If not it’d be whatvee it is for ‘23 and close to or more than $800k for the next four after that, with bonuses which i expect he’ll earn.

He’ll push up to $825-850 for ‘24-‘27 which is about right I think

I have us going 7 & 3 in the first 10 rounds 5 & 3 with 2 byes in the middle of the season

with an easy run into the finals

still think we need strength in the centres a decent bench and another prop

hopefully a good start to the season installs a sense of belief in the playing group

Haven't checked the draw but I think that's abit too optimistic....

I can tell alot from trial games and im very keen to watch them this year. If I don't get a feeling that we can turn it in our terms and construct a try, I will know we are in for a long season and 50% win record is best as we can hope.

I knew from the trials last year we were in trouble and it proved to be the case....

I can't believe how all the hack journos are saying it is a fait accomplis  that we will be picking Aston Agar and Mitch Swepson to tour India. Surely there is one out there who can say they are really not worth a pinch of s*** and we have to think outside of the box. Agar couldn't even take a wicket in Sydney. I can see this tour spanning out like the previous ones with India digging in for long innings and Australia usually doing the same until such time as the next version of Habajin Singh runs riot. Head and Smith are both better options than Agar or Swepson. Boland is a necessity assuming Stark won't be there.

50% wins will get you into the semi’s 9 seasons out of 10 or more. Last season was the first in about a decade it didn’t. A win or two less than 50% has seen teams in the semis most season.

I think you meant to be a lot more pessimistic than that.

You are correct.  Neither of them have  done  much at shield  level this season. We need spinners not slow bowlers. There's  a big difference. There's  a few with good figures and wickets in the shield this season we should take a close look at them. They need to develop  a good stock ball, the ability  to bowl tight when necessary but above all have genuine wicket taking ability.

Alot will be learnt in these trials. I want to see us down 1 or 2 tries, and then we flick a switch (maybe make some changes) and convincingly prove we can construct tries. No flukey ones, real ones. Ones where no matter what the opposition does, we score anyway.

That is the litmus for me. And I don't want our top team getting 40mins over 2 trial games. We need as much game time as anyone.

Sorry, I just realised my sentence made it sounds like if we play below our par, we will end up with around 50% record.

My bad. I meant we will probably have a 50% win record at best and could easily be poorer than that.
