I am not sure where your irrational hatred of him comes from but he had an excellent spell on loan and hopefully he will get a chance for Ipwich before the end of the season.

Irrational hatred? What?

I’m thrilled for him that he did well in Finland which will help him establish himself as a pro but that is a very weak league and is definitely weaker than the A-League.

I really think it’s unlikely he gets a look in at Ipswich, especially given that if he was going to get a look in, they would have already promoted him into their first team since returning and they haven’t. They also allowed him to trial at another club as well

Kwabena Appiah to Indonesia.

Jacob Maniti who was a former Victory youth players has gone to the Danish second tier after having a stint with the Azkals development team (which is basically like a Filipino youth team who play in their domestic league).

Atkinson should move to a club where he is likely to be played in his best position I.e. not rb or rwb.

Nah Atkinson should practice basic first touch before going anywhere. The world watching him against even tho  he did okay against Mbappe. They got scared of him with awful first touch.

I think plenty of good players stay in the A League but Norway offers an excellent springboard to other European leagues, European competition exposure, excellent facilities with modern player development, one of the best countries in the world for living standards, English is spoken.

Yeah the weather in winter is grim though.

It's a bit of a now or never thing for D'Agostino is my feel. If he's going to give Europe a go Norway feels like a good step. I'm glad we have another striker gaining experience and giving Europe a go. I really want to see someone break through.

Uncontracted players maybe, but if any international club is willing to pay the appropriate transfer fee for a contracted player than so be it. In fact I wish we were seeing more contracted players getting overseas offers.

With this thread one phenomenon to consider is that given the bulk of our Aussies Abroad play in Europe, only 5 European teams finished higher than Australia at the World Cup - France, England, Switzerland, Portugal and Croatia. Only 5 UEFA teams finished in the last 8.

We finished 11th, with Senegal  10th and Japan 9th.

Unless Aussies play in the big UEFA five leagues, three whose national teams finished behind Australia at the Qatar World Cup, it is becoming less likely that Australians will be playing with and against players who play international football and -  importantly regularly qualify for big  tournaments  - World Cups and Euro Champs.

For instance supposedly Rangers and Celtic are ranked in the top 30- 40 clubs in the world. Yet Scotland, the parent country for that league, hasn't qualified for a World Cup for 24 years. Denmark easily accounted for Scotland in the WCQers for Qatar 2022, but they lost to Aus in the World Cup.

How would Celtic perform against the  low on the ladder  teams of the 98 clubs who play in the UEFA big five?

Are countries like Japan, South Korea, Mexico and USA better destinations  for Aussies to ply their trade abroad? All four feature regularly at big  tournaments.

Also, this last WC has shown that UEFA teams, often perform poorly outside Europe. Germany and Spain have done well outside Europe in the past, but this time they went home early  from Qatar.

Belgium and Denmark are highly ranked in global FIFA rankings, mainly based on playing UEFA opposition, but they also went home early in Qatar.  Italy, hasn't even qualified for the last two World Cups. China is the same in Asia. China rarely qualifies for WCs whilst pouring huge money into the sport and their top league.

Scotland, Austria, Norway, Turkey, Greece, et al, where Aussies often play football abroad in their top leagues, rarely qualify for big  tournaments. Would many of the club coaches in these leagues have any idea about the requirements for  successful international football across the world, not just UEFA?

Players may earn more money and play more games in a season playing in these leagues, but are they better than the A L for producing international quality footballers?

Christensen, Tech Director for FC Copenhagen, the top club in Denmark, was terrified about Denmark's  prospects against the Socceroos. He stated it was essentially only football people in the  inner sanctum in Denmark who recognised Australia's qualities as a cohesive, battle hardened team unit. They recognised the Socceroos had played twice as much football as Denmark in the WCQing campaign, travelling all around Asia. He was worried the general public in Denmark thought Aus would be a walkover. Christensen thought Denmark had everything to lose and nothing to gain by  playing Australia.

The best leagues for Aussie to play for in UEFA leagues outside the big five in Europe could arguably be Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Croatia and Denmark. Their national teams consistently qualify for big tournaments.

Just a bit of food for thought.

Yeah seems hot but also interesting today on sky Germany was the sky Italian reporter going over their lists saying Leeds were very interested to get him.

I think it'll be Leicester. Shouldn't forget how well Souttar can play a long ball too.
