Just on Hynes, he mostly played centre, 5/8 or fullback in the lower grades.

Storm used him a bit in those positions, but mostly as a 14 off the bench.

First season of NRL playing half in a new team he stepped up like winners do.
I will be surprised if that was a fluke, I expect him to improve with more experience in the position.

I like halves that step up and make a difference when the game is on the line, and that is often the time when the flat trackers go MIA.

Was definitely a harsh call on Nicho by Micko…

One season wonder currently. He was great in a team that rarely played decent opposition and flew under the radar. He certainly has potential but I don’t see him as a top halfback in the next few years. Either way, I don’t think many fans would chose him over Moses. Not yet anyway.

My point still stands. Moses is the best halfback on the market. He is maturing into a very good team player who individually can win a game. If we want to win the comp he is our best chance.

Waiting on a young unproven halfback hasn’t worked out well and rarely does for any team. Even the Chickens are struggling with the best young halfback in the game. We need experience.

Just to change the subject.

I was reading about the Eels/Bulldogs rivalry on the Kennel. I grew up hating the Eels. I was born in 79 and despised them. I know little about the rivalry, if there was any, before that time.

Was there a rivalry between the clubs before the 80’s. Neither side was a heavyweight until that time looking at the records. Any older Bulldogs supporters. It would be great to hear some stories of what it was like before that era.

We will see how Hynes goes this season.

For someone who hasn't played half in the lower grades, his play selection and execution was very good.

I am not 100% writing Flanno off as a short term option. But a lot of improvement is needed.

Our attack was too left side focused last season, the opposition knew Burton was gettimg the ball most of the time.

We need right sided half who can execute plays, give the ball to Averillo is one option.

I've seen Rajab throw some excellent passes in the lower grade highlights.

Most of the rivalry comes from the 1980s, but going to a game in the late 70s, Cumberland oval was a  feral environment.

I was more than happy to take Mahoney off their hands, and Willie Tonga, and Bobcat, if Parra has a player I genuinely rate, I would rather they play for the dogs.

At present I mostly rate Gutho, Brown and some of their forwards.

Come on mate. You must be kidding.

Hynes is a one season wonder. Moses did more at the Tigers than he did up until last year. Hughes looks good in a Melbourne team controlled by Muster, Grant and Paps. Walker looks decent but who wouldn’t feeding Tedesco, Manu, Keary etc. Reynolds is a great goal kicker and game manager and is lucky enough to play for the refs favourites every Friday night.

I’ll admit Cleary and DCE are both better than Moses. Reynolds and him are close but I think Moses wins due to his running game. But I think you’re missing the point.

What halfback would best suit Burto?

We don’t want a player that will demand the ball like Cleary, DCE or Reynolds. That would delay Burtos development. We need a running half that chooses when to inject himself with a great kicking game to take the pressure off and teach him how to improve those areas. Our attack would be like Melbourne’s with Moses and Burto. Constant running threats with great kicking games.

If we sign Moses we play for a premiership. I would guarantee that. I would be surprised if we only get one depending on who we can keep.

I 100% agree.

If people want the best for Burton and are thinking we need to keep Burton for the long term, it is imperative he is grouped with a top half halfback. Not a rookie or a hack.

Otherwise, expect Burton to become a Moses Mbye himself. Micko - 21 Jan 2023 9:55 PM

I think that was another of the Mocks ideas…

Once again, if our intention is to persist with Burton as a 5/8th, we need an established halfback to take the pressure off him.

This thing with your posts is bad, do you have another device that you can use?

Can we agree that Gus and CC know what they are doing and will make the right call?

Let's see how things are going by say round 10.

IMO it is very interesting that dummy-half was a high priority for us.

Both clubs were basically spin offs from the outer edges of the magpies area. We were both perennial bottom dwellers. The berries started to rise slowly through the seventies but it was not until the Eels got strong In the late seventies that we really took much notice of each other.

Come the SC debacle for us and the  Clayton’s Premiership Rorters, they became my most hated Team… not to mention 2+ decades of rorting the cap… or the Dave Brown era…

Hated Dragons more again cos of the milkman Soward…

Since the Fekking bell at the 2014 Gf and myriad of ‘medical retirements’ I have hated South’s…

The Eels collect wooden spoons, we collect premierships.

Dogs fans are higher IQ, better looking, more successful, popular with the opposite sex.

Parra gerseys are ugly and thier players mostly lack ability, dogs look good and play well.

We have Dman, they have Parra Jesus.

Apart from that the clubs are similar....

Me 1942. A premiership year. Then a 38 year wait. Not another 38 years in me. 2004 + 38 = 2042. I'd be 100 so you can see why I'm a bit impatient.

Me 1942. A premiership year. Then a 38 year wait. Not another 38 years in me. 2004 + 38 = 2042. I'd be 100 so you can see why I'm a bit impatient.

Hell is where Soward, Ray Price, Rod Reddy, and Mitch Moses are in the stocks, everyone else is throwing rotten fruit and we can't reach it ... absolute nightmare !!!!!

I must apologise to Billy Slater he deserves to be on the list and in the stocks. But the devil is letting Jimmy Graham handle that case.

Amongst the ultimate grubs that Slater… don’t try telling any mother that though… butter wouldn’t melt in Billies mouth according to them…

It all occurs at a point in time and as you say favourite not best. Les Johns, Robbo (who couldn't like him), Kevin Ryan (leaves all the other tough guys is his wake) and of course Lamb and Mortimer. Many other favourites but that's the five I went with.

Missed Johns and Ryan. When I started watching, Dowling was fullback, and we had Gary, Graham and Mark Hughes.

One unfashionable player who is a favorite of mine is Reado. Stan Culter also a forgotten favorite.

Fullback is one position where we have had a lot of great players.

Also prop, best props I saw, Billy Noonan, Peter Kelly and the Ogre.  Those guys won a lot of games by finishing on top in the middle.

So many great players, and just as important, nice guys over the years.

Will be interesting to see if Wakes makes it in the NRL.

I am 50/50, he has some talent and has some good games, but also a lot of ordinary games.

Tigers must want a replacement for Mbye.
