Please stop it.

They arnet here to learn from and us and exchange ideas and information and develop friendly relations with our federation. This isnt some cultural exchange program that is mutually beneficial to both parties.  Sure such a meeting is possible however the way that this has been orchestrated is totally in the favour of the Croatian FA while exposing our best Australian Croatian talent to play for Croatia. It might only be one player, perhaps the next Modric, are we seriously gonna stand by with our thumbs in our butts and let is happen?

There is absolutely zero benefit from an Australian football perspective.

Arthur, Dirk et all, please kindly take your head out of your asses.

With ALM academies do such a great job identifying and developing Strayan youth, not sure what you are worried about......

FFA should respond by disavowing Sydney United entry to the NSD. Make it a condition entry that you develop players for the Australian NT rather than other nations.

literally have produced more Socceroos then any other club....but you want to ban them the level of stupidity in this comment is beyond reasons

should WSW be kicked out of the AL becuz Cristian Volpato chose italy over Australia...

should Dundee UTD join the AL or NSD because Martin Boyle picked Australia over Scotland.....

North Coburg should 100 percent be 'disbanded' because Ersan Gulum picked Turkey Over Australia when Pim Verbeek called him up to play in a world cup

Fran Karacic never even played in Australia played for Croatias U21s but was a regular in the last world cup for us...does that mean ...

or what about Tim Cahill one of our best ever Socceroos he played for Western Samoa U20 before we took him form them....

.............please .....

it is up to the players who they choose some pick Australia some don't the best thing to do is embrace 'rich' heritages of players so the dont feel alienated and offer them a real bright future for football - also got to stop pushing bullshit politics in the sport rainbows, welcome to country etc all needs to be shown the door...

for most players it isn't even about national pride - it is normally about what's best for their career - fact is someone like Volpato is more likely to gt a run at a club like Roma and a bigger Salary if he is seen as 'italian'

i mean just look how over-paid and over rated 95 percent of English players are....

it is usually beneficial to be part of a 'national team' early as countries like England have rules around oversea players needing to be 'internationals' to get working visas etc

these Kangaroos can play football -

Patriotic Aussie Cro parents ( I know) spunk up money for suker’s and mamic’s boat fund, 1 kid out of 1000 make it to the non hajduk split team - what’s their name again? - but one kid makes it to dinamo before mamic pulling strings behind the scenes tells the stupid parents how it’s going to be.

Yeah it should be a condition of teams in the A league and NSD that they put Australia first. That is one of the arguments for more professional level teams in Australia, to provide more opportunities for young Australian players to learn and develop.

If Sydnic United and others choose to facilitate the development of young Croat Australians to play for the Croatian national team, then that is fundamentally incompatible with the values of the A league and NSD. It’s disingenuous to say “its up to the player” when you’ve got the Croatian federation making the strongest of overtures to convince young talent to choose Croatia. Clearly these kids are impressionable and going to be gooey eyed seeing their heroes come all the way to Australia just to see them play, and then adorning them with Croatian flags and jerseys.

While we can’t stop clubs like Sydnic United forming relationships with foreign federations, we can dissuade it by prioritising teams that develop Australians and puts Australia first. It doesn’t matter that Sydnic United have a strong history producing Socceroos, clearly this was in the context of a league that was dominated by ethnic sides. They haven’t really produced a great player for a long time, and as their current actions amount to treachery Id be happy to give the license to a club that supports Australian football instead.

Yeah imagine telling that to the club who has produced the most socceroos in history lol.

It's up to the individual in which country they choose, not the club.

No wonder the Socceroos have struggled for so long of that’s true.

So Croatian FA spend a few days signing some autographs and watching some kids a ball around and suddenly that trumps a lifetime of development within the Australian system? Fuck off mate.

As I said, its smart what the Croatian FA are doing, my gripe isnt with them. Its with two faced clubs like Sydnic United who are encouraging and facilitating kids born and raised Australian to turn their backs on their country, all the while continuing their development within the Australian football landscape.

Sydney United Players for Australia = 62

everyone up in arms over a few croatian representatives visiting croatian clubs in australia lol.

No one was up in arms when Borussia Dortmund ran training camps and formed a partnership with Marconi. Who's not to say they wont poach an Australian / German, or lead another path for an Australian / Italian to play for italy?
Should all foreign clubs have no relationship with any clubs in australia then? you know, wouldnt want to risk any player poaching. FMD

So what.
I mean, seriously, so what.
Once upon a time we'd put young players through the AIS at taxpayer expense and a few would go on to play for other national teams.
What are people worried about, that we lose another handful of players?
Melbourne Croatia might make another windfall transfer fee that pays for ground improvements.
Good luck to them.

So let me get this right. The FA is worried that in two weeks this Croatian contingent will identify potential international players that have remained totally undetected by Australia’s greatest talent scouts?
Sounds like if few people were actually half decent at their jobs the relevant kids would already be being nurtured within the ‘Australian system.’

The only difference between Croatia and Australia is that it seems the Croats are actually prepared to invest in youth rather than simply trawl the SPL for players with connections to their country.

I was only replying to tsf and roosty who suggested and mentioned all of Sydney Uniteds players who played for Australia were shit. I guess that's a reflection of football in this country rather than a club. So it shouldn't matter if a few croatian delegates are here, they'll find nothing, right?

As for the A-league threads. I don't watch it.

Arthur, Dirk et all, please kindly take your head out of your asses.

Here's the thing Roosty, and the cold hard truth.
The kids the Croatian FA are training are not the "identified", "precocious talents", they will be training. These kids are at AL Academies, that's not where the Croats are running clinics.
The kids at Melbourne Knights and Sydney United Clubs are the discarded unwanted ones.

And that's not how it should be, our football structure is fractured and broken. The AL Academies have a huge advantage in attracting talent as they have monopoly over the first tier, they get the talent for no cost therefore they can churn it at no cost to them. Then they don't value the talent they have, cause they ain't pushing it into the first team.
It demonstrates that our football market, our football economy and our football structures is not competitive, in fact it's anti-competitive.

And when you have this Economic Model, the Croatian FA, the Liverpool Academy, the Barcelona Academy, the Perugia Academy, the Empoli Academy, the Real Madrid Foundation, and a whole host of others come here as they see an opportunity in our fractured football economy.

In the Croatian FA Camps scenario if they found one or two or even three kids they considered talents and took them over, they've done us a favour. By staying here those kids would have just ended up being some of the thousands that have just faded away from the game.

Look no further than the locally discarded Volpato, but good enough for here but good enough for Roma or the unwanted Alou Kuol not good enough to even get a look in at the Victory academy but good enough for Stuttgart.
We don't even know or can measure the lost and wasted talent we've had, they're gone now, lost to the game here.

So until we can fix our own backyard, we will have these Club Academies and National Federations coming here taking the opportunity to find talent because our development system is broken.

Arthur, I think you misunderstand Roosty's objection to this training camp. I havent read any negativity towards  Liverpool Academy, the Barcelona Academy, the Perugia Academy, the Empoli Academy, the Real Madrid Foundation, Villareal, AC Milan, Blackburn Rovers and the hundreds of other "foreign crusaders" etc etc its any association with the nation of Croatia that seems to get his goat and possibly the fact that a bunch of fellow Australian's may have an inherent fondness for their ancestry.... I mean at one stage he was going to send a squadron of fighter jets to Zagreb?!?!?!?!?!?

Head in the sand most of them.

Arthur summed up the state of our development well in the previous post.

Slightly off topic but I'd rather pay for my son to go to Europe for a year of full-time football education at those pay2play academies for roughly the same price as 5 years worth of NPL junior fees...

Probably would have a stronger CV to waltz into a NPL mens team worst case scenario lol

Everybodys favourite lurker.

BWHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAA

So let me try to understand your logic. Because we shot ourselves in the foot with the Volpato situation, lets shoot ourselves in the other foot by handing our young talent over to foreign federations like Croatia, Italy and Greece? Cut our nose to spite our face sorta thing?

HOW THE FUCK IS THAT DOING US A FAVOUR?

You also miss an important detail Arthur. The relationships that Croatia FA are forming, with various Croatian clubs across Australia, are not “just one off” camps. These are nascent relationships that will grow in momentum, strength and organisational cohernecy, especially as these clubs seek to entry to the NSD and their junior academies become viable factories for producing overseas and Croatian rep players. The kids and parents wont care that they were looked over by Sydney FC. That is the goal of these programs, they didnt send their best and brightest for a sausage sizzle, they are planning for the future.

Is this what we want for Australian football, for the Croatian FA to have first dibs on the all the talented young Croat Aussies coming through the ranks? That is the advantage we had over Croatia, the advantage that enabled players like Bosnich, Viduka, Culina, etc to become Socceroos rather than Croatians, because they were capped before Croatia knew how good they were. Now we have lost this advantage.

It only takes ONE player, the next Viduka, Rakitic, Simunic, Pulicic to be stolen and we will feel the pain of our complacency for a very long time. You can hate on the development system all you want, can you speculate on all the Volpato’s that we’ve lost to the system (unjustly and without evidence) but this pours salt into the wounds.

If you cannot foresee how this is going to result in Australia losing players to Croatia, then you are frankly dumb as a post.

Hahahah

Do you not know the difference between a club academy and a foreign federation?  The Barca academy will happily take named Jo Smith if he’s good enough.

Its a shit analogy mate.
