+x+x+x+x+xRFM club captain… Burto and Lou Reed on field captains… Happy with that.. especially Ray… interested to know who speaks to ref on field, expecting Lou… Does it maybe mean (unlikely) Lou doesn’t play 80???… I recon they will probably have different players do the after match press conferences/media etc. I like the on field / off field split and especially Ray as off field captain. How could it be split on field???… game to game??… half to half???… whoever os closest to the ref,???.,, I ok with club and team captain… will he interested to see how two works on the field… I get the box or trainers are generally making the call anyway… I recon whoever is on the field, or closest to the ref for captain's challenges. Penalties they can quickly discuss. Discipline the ref can talk to the closest player. Lou should generally be at the ruck and close to the action. Sorry but I don’t like that at all… And I doubt the refs will be interested in asking or shpuld have to ask who is captain when both are on the field… Ok asking who is C when the C off but not 2 minutes in… what happens when one calls for a reply the other doesn’t want???… 100% agree. It's stupid. Pick one and that's it.

+x+x+x+xReally who f***in’ cares. Every team has a leadership group, some official some not, we’ve made it official. Nothing unusual there. Two on field Captains, just about every team has them too, mostly unofficial. Melb had Smith with the C but Cronk made as many if not more calls than he did and the same happens now and you can bring up any team and find examples of such. So we’ve made it official and both Mahoney and Burton and the team will know who calls what when. It’s just done to share the burden between two young first time Captains one of which may or may not emerge as sole Captain in the season or seasons ahead or maybe they’ll just be that way forever. The only unusual and very smart difference is the off field Captain thing which has no influence on on field play and takes a burden off both Mahoney and Burton so they can concentrate on the on field stuff. The only people that may be upset is the press but they’ll get used to it or not who cares. It’s a real smart move that I wouldn’t be surprised to see copied aplenty. Just interested in how it’ll work on field… not bagging the idea… There was a situation some time ago where the ref told a "captain" he wasn't at the toss. We also had a case where a "captain" challenged the ref on another player's authority to make a call on a captain's challenge. It obviously needs to be clear who the captain is when dealing with officials I remember the latter instance… Some ‘innovator’ at NRLol sitting back thinking how can we leverage this situation to implement yet another inspired ‘innovation’… Perhaps Captain wears a mouth guard with flashing lights… or maybe club fans could vote using the NRLol app on which captain makes the call… The ref decides who is captain and presents them with a rose when the whistle is blown… Love your work Dman. The whole situation is as stupid as it sounds. I didn't think my Bulldogs would stoop to this level, but here we are... ..and it's funny Zef trying to justify it. dman2018 - 29 Jan 2023 11:08 AM Mooloolabadog - 29 Jan 2023 10:31 AM I remember the latter instance…

+x+xNothings a problem if it's recognised and corrective action taken. I've found through life that Ignoring a problem, even small one, is never the answer. I would be stunned to the point of incredulous, if having come up with this model, CC hasn’t thought through who handles the toss, who approaches the ref, who does the Captains challenge and everything in between from A-Z including things neither you nor I have even considered. Wouldn’t you be? Because if he hasn’t, these are the least of our problems. The main problem would be we’re being coached by a moron. How many games did you watch last year ? There were a number of ocassions where the team with opportunity to ask for a captains challenge, failed to do so within the time frame or the ref lost his patience coz thry couldn't decide who was captain It's totally unnecessary to introduce a known problem.

You’re taking the most ridiculous improbable scenarios and trying to make them fact or even probable.
Again I ask, do you not think CC would’ve thought through all these situations? Who makes the Captains call, who approaches the ref, who does the toss, who drives the bus, who wipes your arse.
FFS man… just… FFS man. If you think that, we’ve got no hope, he won’t be able to plan the bus route to the game.

I do remember the odd occasion… actually more than the odd occasion…where a front rower or winger (the usual suspects) dropped the ball cold and bounced up demanding a Captains challenge only for the ref to tell them “You’re not the Captain”.
I think that’s what you’re confusing.

I don't think we ever won a Captain challenge from a DWZ dropped ball.

“Djokovic was famously deported from Australia 12 months ago as a result of breaching Australia’s border rules after ultimately being ruled a “health risk” to the country, putting lives in danger as he remained unvaccinated. The shambolic handling of the case by Australian officials was an international embarrassmentOf course, it is important to remember the entire scandal could have been avoided if Djokovic had simply accepted the Covid-19 vaccine.”
I’m no fan of Joker, I take no joy in his winning… ever, but this is Disgraceful germoulism and presstitution…
The decision to inject a rushed to market substance, with no long term data, that did not prevent transmission (despite the lies from leaders asserting it would) was far from a simple one for many many people, and one many wouldn’t have chosen had their livelihoods or ability to participate in society not been threatened…

+x+xMicko do you swap beers based on specials or stick to the one brew???…
I swap beers a fair bit with the new mortgage because of price. But I normally drink Coopers XPA. But $65 plus a case is getting a bit steep. Coopers dry for $45 is much more reasonable.
I would also say that I have seasonal tastes. When it’s hot Coronas are great. As are most lagers. In winter Guinness is a must. Christmas time I like Crowns, just for memories of drinking them while eating prawns. But Coopers purple cans and blue cans are good most of the year. A good ale go’s with most things. I also love Stone and Wood pacific ale and Balter XPA. Those two taste better than almost anything else. But $75 or more is just ridiculous.
What about you mate? Love those purple cans but agree the price is rough… im pretty much swapping between Carlton Draughtband Furphy these days… Don’t mind a Tooheys Old on the odd occasion… have never found a clear bottled beer I like…

You are highlighting why we need two captains, we can't let any player challenge. With 2 captains one might be closer to the action or have a better view. IMO Reed is doing the challenge unless Burto thinks he clearly saw it. It will go like this.... Lou - that is no challenge - take a walk on the wild side. Burto - I saw it man - I can see for miles - hey ref - we are challenging.

Again Marki (not trying to quote all that, and you really have to fix your thing whatever it is), you’re just taking the unlikely, something that can be reduced to near zero with a five minute conversation, and arguing it as likely.
Arguing a negative and asking me to disprove it. Well you could answer the door tomorrow and get beaten to death by someone wielding a dildo - can you say it will never happen? Do you have a sales 101 plan for it?
What’s more likely in any given game is somebody… anybody… regardless of one, two or ten Captains, taking the quick tap when the Captain(s) wanted to go for goal. That could cost you a game, could cost you a GF. In fact remember Tolman, cost us a game, or a chance of it anyway.
Where’s your concerns and demands for action plans about that? That’s much more likely as is about a hundred other things players do on the field The Captain and Coach pull their hair out over.

I don't see it that way. Although it often gets misused (or sometimes strategically used) it is there to stop a howler which can easily be done with the speed of the game and only 1 ref now.

+x+x+xThe captains challenge should be ditched altogether. I don't understand how the refs let it become part of the game in the first place, because you're undermining their authority. I don't see it that way. Although it often gets misused (or sometimes strategically used) it is there to stop a howler which can easily be done with the speed of the game and only 1 ref now. Very few games are decided by a captains challenge. Once again, it's not just about the decision itself. With the speed of the game and removal of scrums, the captains challenge allows the players to take a breather and reset. hounddog - 31 Jan 2023 9:39 PM Marki - 31 Jan 2023 9:11 PM Very few games are decided by a captains challenge.

Strategy.

Then the perfect reason to get rid of it. Slow the game down and bring back the scrums.

+x+x+xMicko do you swap beers based on specials or stick to the one brew???…
Love those purple cans but agree the price is rough… im pretty much swapping between Carlton Draughtband Furphy these days… Don’t mind a Tooheys Old on the odd occasion… have never found a clear bottled beer I like… Furphy. Had it on tap and it was decent. I might buy a case

+x+x+x+x+xI do remember the odd occasion… actually more than the odd occasion…where a front rower or winger (the usual suspects) dropped the ball cold and bounced up demanding a Captains challenge only for the ref to tell them “You’re not the Captain”. I think that’s what you’re confusing. You are alluding to DWZ. Everytime he dropped the ball, he'd ask for a Captain challenge and somehow convinced Jacko multiple times to go for it. I don't think we ever won a Captain challenge from a DWZ dropped ball. Jacko finally got good at captain's challenges last season. Can we just be clear no one here was stating it was a bad idea until Mock did… And no one here was suggesting it was ill considered by the club/coach… This conversation was about interest in how the dynamics will work on field with something new to our club… It then generated discussion around how it will work with the refs… and based on what happens with refs and their interpretations, and the NRLols inability to be able to recognise or react in a timely manner to potential issues its a reasonable discussion… I can see it now,… Us vs the Cowboys in the GF, we are down by 4 with 12 seconds remaining… Lou is concussed in a high tackle after passing to Burto and in a daze instantly calls for us to take the two… Burto with ball in hand shouts to the ref ‘I’m captain’ and takes the tap stepping through the distracted line and barging over with a 62m run… 2023 premiers Dogs… Cowboys bitching to the NRLol again about something to do with the refs… Two days later Dogs stripped of Premiership, fine $20M and start minis 20 for the next 6 seasons… Or does it work the other way???… a concussed Lou calls for two at the instant Burto takes the quick tap, busts the line and it’s called back… HD can you tweeter PVL and ask how this works re how and when the ref is informed of who is captain… The NRL got back to me, Dogs are penalised for confusing the ref, for all other teams the try is awarded.
