Arnold mentioned about 6 to 7 changes for this in the press conference.
An interesting comment was also June will be a good time to test and rest. Probably fair enough too. I don't think the A League players will have regressed too much. Some European based players will be keen for a rest.

+x+x+xgoing with people from overseas and kids from our club tomorrow...hoping the side isn't too drastically different and experimental as would love the boys to put on another great show. Tuesday night is balls..... Ive got a parent/teacher thing at school and Mrs wont let me go :( ...... Have fun Never thought you'd be hen pecked, MSC? I'm a teacher too. It is easy to reschedule the parent/teacher interview to a later time. Your child's teacher won't mind. You can quote me to your wife! How many other times can you watch the Socceroos live this year? Also, you need to cultivate your wife. A number of sports fans I know have partners who aren't particularly interested in a sport, but love the live events and attending as spectators. You also need to keep an eye on the calendar well before Socceroo games, so there are no time clashes with other events. Your relationship advice is as valuable as your football specific analysis Decentric.... Best kept to yourself thanks.

+xI think Arnie has handled the blending of young players very well thus far. Playing with too much inexperience on the park at the same time isn’t going to give these younger guys the best chance to impress, and the overall team may suffer. Have a bit of faith in Arnie’s reasoning. He’s earned it. Agree with every word, Bowden.

+x+x+x+xI'm sure Arnold has recognised it now that Irvine and Hrustic just don't belong as a 6. Way to hectic and panicky when exposed from all sides. O'Neill is calm in that area of the pitch. Hrustic and Irvine are much better when they're able to focus mostly on what's in front of them and not be made nervous from behind. I watched the replay of Friday's Ecuador v Aus with a number of current and former senior NPL players I've coached. All of us agreed that Hrustic is, sadly, quite a dumb player, who makes a lot of poor decisions, and makes slow, wrong decisions. At the same time Hrustic is one of our most skilful players with the ball at his feet. After Irvine excelled in his first game as Attacking Mid, or Ten, for most of the game, and O'Neill's superb display as the number 6, who screens the defence, and who can also compensate for Mooy's weakness getting to loose ball contests, and lack of nimbleness - Hrustic goes way down the pecking order as number Ten after Irvine, (even the classy glimpses we saw of Robertson's cameo), Rogic and the ever improving McGree. Hrustic is also a lazy defender when the other team has the ball. He will struggle to be selected if all players are fit. O'Neill is a superior DM , 6, or midfield screener, better than anyone else we have ATM. This enables Irvine to play in a more advanced position. I just hope O'Neill does not inexplicably fade out. While Irvine was wonderful in his role as the attacking midfieder or No 10, like Cahill, he plays like Cahill, there is not a lot of creativity, industrial yes, lots of running & getting in the right positions, but he aint creating a lot, without Mooy, Hrustic, there was little creativity coming from our midfield 3 until Robertson came on. Irvine is a running no 8, but not a no 10. . Put Hrsutic out far right watch the goals pour in ....... Worth the "experiment" I think. I think this is where Hrustic has impressed most - as a winger.

+x+x+xArnie has done well but people forget who is seated next to him. I think Rene has done very well also and is clearly able to help identify who he thinks will work in camp and also providing some tactical guidance to Arnie. I am glad he also signed on for another cycle. Has Meulensteen ever been a head senior coach? I thought he had been more of a development coach? Man U Academy have seen excellent training ground exercises that may have been devised by him. His team up with Arnie could be very significant as a combination, a bit like Clough/Taylor. Aus struggled against Saudi and Japan without Arnie though. Yes he coached Fulham What was his record like as Fulham's head coach, BOH?

Irvine is a running no 8, but not a no 10. I respectfully disagree, Robbos. For the first time I can remember, Irvine showed what he can do as a Ten, or Attacking Mid. Given the emergence of O'Neill, a classic midfield screener, Irvine showed his late runs and penalty box predation are more valuable to the team than having him playing a deeper role, or more of a box to box midfielder. There was some terrific combination play amongst Irvine, Duke and Goodwin, plus Behich too - on a number of occasions. These guys have some nice synergy. Guys like Leckie, Mabil and Hrustic, even Rogic, never really combine as cohesively with fellow attacking players. I'm not disagreeing that he has late runs into the box that is very Cahill like & his combination with Duke & Goodwin was brilliant. He had a great game. My point being that Irvine plus Baccus & O'Neil, there is not a lot of creativity & hence why we didn't have the possession Reminded me very much of the Liverpool midfield, lots of energy & hard running, great cohesion, but when team parks the bus, not much attacking flair to break them down. You can see when Robertson came on, especially with Kuol & Tilio out wide the creativity was much stronger.. there you go again targeting the Reds :) but yer true, park the bus kills us not just recently may I say. Though I agree re Irvine and BOH backs it up, until that game the other night thats got to be one of his best ever most times he runs around like a headless chook for me - great workrate but no more no less. Good to see a better productive game by him, hopefully he continues. Same applies re Bresch as BOH mentions, not sure what D2 looks at, he had the skill taking players on, win one on ones, make the space then cross or have a go. The type of attacking player we have missed for a long time. I'm hoping Robbo kicks on, he's a goer.

You can see when Robertson came on, especially with Kuol & Tilio out wide the creativity was much stronger.. Fair points raised, Robbos. In the O'Neill/Baccus/Irvine rotating midfield triangle, Baccus had to keep changing role. Hence, whereas O'Neill and Irvine excelled in their more simple roles, there is room for a Robertson like player to replace Baccus. Mooy is terrific at the base of the midfield triangle when we have the ball. In Ball Possession Opposition though, he has never been really mobile, but he appears to have declined a bit from where he was a while back. His greatest strength in BPO is his game sense and reading the play, picking up frequent intercepts. Others have raised that McGree has been playing well in club football as a winger/ wide player. In terms of creativity 2 midfielders who've impressed me, but can't get a Socceroo start, are Daneil Da Silva and Piscopo. Dwight Yorke thinks DDS can play at a higher level. It is a question of them being selected. These guys are creative players, and DDS has improved his defensive work rate and skills. ATM we seem to have a lot more depth in positions with the rapid improvement development of some young players - even since the World Cup. O'Neill, Bos, Robertson, Irankunda, et al, are coming on. Moreover, Goodwin, Duke, Irvine, Borrello, are possibly improving late in their careers too. All good!

In one of his press conferences/articles in the last few days, Arnie alludes to McGree developing faster by playing a lot more games than he would have/ other players do, in the AL M.
Of course playing 40 games a year in England, players will improve more than playing 25 games a year in AL M.

Yes Irvine was outstanding best game I have ever seen him play. However that last 10 mins Bordello up front with Tilio, Robertson & Kuol just behind had me salivating of our future.

My apologies, MSC. It was meant as light-hearted banter, not to cause offence.

Sure, no problem. Apology not necessary, just thought keeping it respectful towards each other's family was an implied civility.

While we'd like a more attacking RB. It's not like Degenek hasn't done poorly in the role. Successfully playing it against Denmark and Argentina. I don't know how much higher you could go.
Happy for this CB pairing to have a go.

+xWow that is a whole lot of changes! Behich still on his perch though. Don't think Bos would mean an experienced defence. Someone is going to have a shocker tonight and get written off. I so hope I'm wrong but Devlin has a tough act to follow with O'Neill. Thing is it's just one game!

Arnie has so much credit I'll just go with his side and look on the bright side - so many fresh faces!
Still, I would have liked to see either o'niell or robertson start to build them further into the team and I would have liked to see rowles play another game just to give that consistency at the back of not replacing too many players
Devlin is the most pure 6 we have, more so than O'Niell. So hopefully he gets stuck in
