here here AND might I add, the performances by Bournemouth and Saints against farfar bigger Clubs way up the ladder accounted for themselves purley that its desparate times week in week out 10 games left of the season.
On another maybe they should introduce finals for those out of the europe spots :) another sugar hit for the league.

And across  the river, the oldest pro club in the world, now 5th Tier.

Reynolds added: "Everything about the sport and the way the sport is handled here, the pyramid system, relegation and promotion, creates stakes like nothing else.

"This was a game people will talk about for ages and the attention coming on the National League is special, but worthy of this town and of Notts County.

"What both sides have achieved is historic. I don't think I've seen anything like it."

Reynolds is not wrong. Wrexham - who lead Notts County by three points with a game in hand - need seven more points from their final four games to be sure of promotion.

Its a rippa football scenario been keeping tabs on them last 2 seasons.
Then EPL 13th spot down relo fight with 8 games left.
Championship relo fight is between 6 Clubs to the end, play off places at the top end is amongst a host of them but for Burnely way in front gaining promo to date.

Its always the best part of the season , last 4-5 rounds and tight at the bottom and the top .... final day, every kickoff on at the same time,  one eye glued to your phone, the other to the match infront of you ....... That is the ONLY benefit of being in the NPL.

Seeing the scenes with Wrexham getting promoted into the football league is beautiful to see, I wish for the day we see similar scenes in our top flight if the powers have the wisdom and desire for it.

It just gives our sport a true point of difference to the other codes.

1) allow clubs to apply to a closed 2nd div
2) set up 2nd div
3) run 2nd div for approx 3-5 years
4) introduce pro/rel

It would take about 7 years.
It would be better for the "a-league" to be 2 10 team leagues then 1 20 team league.

Spooky

We'd be there by now

Northampton have a chance get fucked by Goal Difference on the last day, for the second season running.

(Bristol Rovers won 7-0 last game of season to screw them on Goals Scored)

Stockport have an easy win likely tonight, meaning Northampton have to win away to Tranmere to hold on

was just with my Derby mate this morn, knocked out to make the playoffs due to a wrong ref call for a pen so down 1nil, they just needed a draw.

Hurts them for they also were paying the price not being able to buy players through Jan to bolster the squad.

Some very good points in that JL read that wish could ring true here.

A lot of people suggested using the J League’s experience as a template prior to the A League being set up but Uncle Frank did it his way.

Its just so frustrating that the chance for a quick cash grab overrode a salvageable competition... The Japanese saw what they had and worked with it to develop something better.

The J League experience had considerably different circumstances. For starters, it already had football as the pinical football code, in fact, the only football code. So investors and sponsors directed their efforts in one location.

The hurdle for Lowy and the new professional broad based league at the time was to ensure anyone who intended to invest into the league weren't reminded of the previous baggage. Foxtel took a massive gamble to fund the league under the understanding of a clean start. Previously the best we could do is get  bit of pocket money if we were lucky and we were stuck in the realms of amateurism.

Notts County jammed it through the playoffs

Semi-Final

Equalized in the 96th Minute to go to Extra Time
Scored in 120th Minute to save going to penalties

Final

Came back from a goal down in Normal and then again in Extra Time

Then subbed on an on-loan Keeper just for the shoot out and he saved twice

The Lowy's had a 50 year association with football in this country. Of these FIFTY YEARS, Frank was Chairmain of the FFA for 10 years, and his son for another 3 or so years.

Under their watch,  the A-League received $666 million dollars worth in broadcast deals, and hundreds of millions more in sponsorships and ticket sales.

The salvageable competition?  Here's a nice summary of how things stood:

Yeah thats great Enzo Im sure the APL and the Lowys before them have profited handsomely on their investment..
Sorry i missed the part in the Japanese Football's review of the last 30 years where they speak about revenue, ticket sales and sponsorship? All I read from their statement is pride in having Japanese national footballers playing in good overseas leagues, a national team that is respected on the world stage and a thriving football pyramid providing aspirational and inspirational football to all clubs and communities in the country.

J - league started, 30 years ago with existing basket case clubs, mainly owned by conglomerates or local prefectures and have, in 30 years, developed a football system that has helped them develop into, what I would regard, a serious football nation. Despite football NOT being the most popular sport, despite Japanese players NOT being considered as physically gifted as those from Sth America and Europe and despite not having vast amounts of revenue OR  huge storied clubs...

We are talking about two different outcomes and I suspect we always will be. Some want MLS lite, others see J-League and sigh and wonder "what if"?

Its not great mate, its absolutely astonishing that under the Lowys management the professional game brought in circa $1 billion dollars over 15 years from being utterly broke.

J-league clubs are sponsored by some of the biggest global brands, so much money flows in that until recently their best players never felt the need to go overseas. The J-league has a revenue of $1.3 billion AUD.
