It's the Muscat to Celtic that really terrifies you - Isn't it ??????? It doesn't terrify me at all, as it will simple not happen. I honestly don't understand how/why there are those who for whatever reason believe that it IS a real possibility. Whether you are one of those or not only you can answer... If you are, care to enlighten me on your reasoning behind such a belief?? Facile analysis. Kevin has success taking over teams from Ange. He has taken Yokahama to a second place finish in the j league this year. Seriously?? That's the thinking behind the reason/belief why Muscat could/would be selected as the Celtic new manager once Ange moves on (whenever that may be)?? Ok, let's run with the scenario you put forth... How does/what is Muscat's record as a manager stand up to/versus that of Ange's managers record?? Now let's consider Muscat's record vs any other potential future Celtic manager world over (once Ange's reign is over).... Still believe/think Muscat is in with a shot?? Side Note: For those who may be misinformed/believe otherwise, Celtic is NOT part of the CFG, even though we may have a close working relationship with them. ROFL - What a bite! - You do take all this way too seriously (You should also look up the word facile ;>D)

+xI know this probably won't be the most popular opinion on these boards, but I have been very impressed with Bitton when he has been on the field in his preferred position - defensive/holding midfield (I've always rated Bitton). I feel/believe if we stick with the midfield trio of Bitton, McGregor and Turnbull, and have Rogic coming of the bench later on in the game, or even rotating Turnbull and Rogic with each other throughout the season (to help keep the players fresh as possible). With Rogic out injured for the time being, Bitton has a great opportunity to cement his place in the current starting line-up, and show he can add value to the team. As the defensive/holding midfield is a weak position I can see the possibility that the club could try and strengthen this area. I'm sure the like of 'Bunch of Huns Hacks', 'Balin Trev' and others who feel Rogic is Celtic's best player and should start and play every game may disagree with my opinion, and that is fine. I just feel Rogic would be better utilise coming off the bench, or being rotated with Turnbull. Not to play them both together at the same time. Side Note: The Anthony Ralston of this season is completely unrecognised to previous versions of the lad - Wonderful to see 🙂 Mostly agree with this with the small caveat that Rogic has really shone this year and was hugely missed v Livi. Bitton is certainly doing well at number 6 but has needless fouls in him. He's always a risk.

Does anyone else see parallels between the way Ange uses CalMac at Celtic to the way he used Matt McKay for the Socceroos? Apologies if that observation has been made already but it really jumped at me while watching CalMac last night. CalMac is a very versatile player who is mobile, a very good passer, can control the tempo of a match and seems to have mountains of energy.

How good was the post match Last Christmas song!
I agree with alot of the above, Bitton has looked alot better last 2 games.
But there is some games where only Rogic can unlock opp defence.
The Greek striker GG looks low in confidence after that poor penalty miss in ealier game. Needs a couple goals as well.

A midfield trio of CalMac, Turnbull and Rogic just isn’t solid enough defensively. Bitton’s last two games have been very good. He looks slow going forward and releasing the ball at times but I wonder whether that’s simply his languid approach? Anyway, I agree Rogic should be used alternately with Turnbull or as an impact sub. Bitton also offers more in the defensive line on set pieces, which still need improvement. Anyway, I watched all of last night’s match and while subsequently knackered at work today there was a lot to like. I’ll be interested to see how much steel Julien brings to the defence when he is back. Forrest’s cameo was good too.

Might not be an issue this season.

Whether you agree with the tactical set up or not, Australia didn't and doesn't have a better coach than Ange and we should have trusted him. Graham is not a better coach than him. Ange quit NT. He wasn’t fired or not trusted Yeah, he quit from the NT he had previously played for, and coached at a world cup quite admirably, and AFTER winning the Asian Cup and struggling to qualify for 2018 with a bunch of donkeys... he quit 2 x weeks after securing qualification despite having a team who would go and embarras tbe whole nation with 1 point and 2 penalties to show for themselves in Russia ......... Sure OK.... So, being one of only three countries to score against France in the World Cup was embarassing? (The other 2 being Argentina, and Croatia.) Ange had one of the lowest success rates of a Socceroos coach, it literally was the epitome of the 'Brave Defeat' He got them to the world cup. Did not get the backing of the ffa, so he preferred to walk. He has achieved more than any other Aus coach. Can't deny it, haters will always exist. You got nothing. I don't think you can just brush off any criticism of Ange as "haters". After the 2015 Asian Cup I saw the man as a fucking GOD. I bought right in to his message about building a dynasty, changing football in Australia etc. I felt, as soon as it became apparent that he wasn't infallible, showing some tactical inflexibility etc, his attitude changed. He wanted to see more football related discussion from fans and the media, yet reacted poorly when that occurred because he didn't agree with what they were saying. Maybe he was right, that the criticism came from people that didn't understand what he was trying to do. So what? That is part of being a football manager. To quote Roy Keane, "that's his job". I did not want him to quit. I wanted him to see out this "dynasty" he was talking about at the World Cup in 2018. I also don't buy the "the FFA didn't back him" argument. The FFA at the time were buffoons no doubt, but they were buffoons when Ange was appointed in 2013 as well and if there is one thing that the FFA generally do well it's spending the required money to make sure the Socceroos squad and staff have every available opportunity for success leading up to and at the wold cup (training facilities, catered flights etc). I genuinely felt stabbed in the heart when he quit. I've since accepted that it was his, and nobody else, decision to make. That doesn't mean I have to like what he did and I certainly don't have to respect him for it. I believe he knew that a 0W 0D 3L cup was a distinct possibility and that would reflect badly on him. I still acknowledge he is Australia's best manager by far and genuinely wish him to succeed at Celtic. Exactly how I feel. Well said. I’ve never taken the time to write a detailed analysis of my thoughts on the end of Postecoglue’s time with the National team, but if I did, it would read pretty similar to that. I don’t buy the “couldn’t handle the press” for a second.
He knew he was about to lose 3 games straight and did what was best for his career at that point. Profoundly disagree with this. Anyone who understands the way he plays football (especially as coach of Oz) would appreciate his determination to succeed as coach / leader of Oz football. Read his book! He wanted only the best for Oz football and took immense pride in his position (and achievements). Can there be anything more fun than going to a World Cup as a player or manager? No-one is going to give that up without a seriously powerful incentive. My own theory (for which I have zero evidence) is that Ange was embittered by the criticism he'd copped and at the same time received an offer he couldn't refuse from the CFG. All of a sudden there was both a carrot and a stick and the man was just exhausted. (I understand also he has a pretty powerful ego which might have helped.) But no way in the world would he have been such a defeatist as to quit because he thought he would lose. In fact, I'm certain we would have done better if Ange had stayed. Just ask Jackson Irvine. Fair enough that we have different opinions and I’ll admit I’ve never read Ange’s book. It would however have been his second WC where he lost all three group games had he stayed and given the performances against Thailand, Syria and Honduras I think he knew it was likely. That is a record to avoid at all costs both in the context of historical Australian coaches and as a coach looking for a job after the WC. Very good win last night for Ange’s Celtic over Ferencvaros away in Hungary, 3-2. If they can win away in the league this coming weekend, Celtic will still be alive in the Europa League, have a cup semi-final coming up and be just four points off Rangers in the league. Since the last international break Celtic have not lost a match, and really only had one disappointing outing, last weekend’s draw at home to a side that parked two buses and played anti-football. Fascinating times, Celtic haven’t quite got a grip on Ange-ball yet but are on their way. The squad is still thin, definitely needs a boost of two or three quality players in midfield in the transfer window, and more time, which is not freely given at Celtic, but still, things are better right now for Ange than just six weeks ago. Of course, we all know football fortunes can turn on a dime.

+x+x+xI’m generally not one for conspiracy theories in football, but hearing that in their three previous games Rangers have been behind when the opposition have received a red card and two penalties, followed by the softest penalty ever to square things up against Aberdeen in the 81st minute; is enough to make you believe in a “Rangers effect”. It's fairly common for the League's most successful side(s) to receive more favourable treatment isn't it? I wouldn't chalk it up to conspiracy, rather the natural human reaction to believe that the inferior side have committed a foul, etc. We see the same in in Australia with Sydney, where everybody thinks the FFA have given a directive to refs to favour Sydney for no reason whatsoever. And if you spend a lot of time in your opponents box, then the law of averages dictates you will win more penalties. Yes. And at a local level (when I'm reffing) I've noticed that teams that have more skilful players draw more fouls. (Either blokes are missing the ball and kicking them accidently because they've moved it away from them or outright kicking them because they've got better skills.)

Anyone who understands the way he plays football (especially as coach of Oz) would appreciate his determination to succeed as coach / leader of Oz football. Read his book! That is a record to avoid at all costs both in the context of historical Australian coaches and as a coach looking for a job after the WC. That is a record to avoid at all costs both in the context of historical Australian coaches and as a coach looking for a job after the WC.Yes he was pissed off with criticism (in spite of encouraging football analysis), he had a good offer from CFG, he had a poor result at the last World Cup (though won plaudits with how Australia played) and he has a large ego and another poor showing at the World Cup would not have sat well with him. To me - he did the best for his career - something we probably would all do.

+xI’m generally not one for conspiracy theories in football, but hearing that in their three previous games Rangers have been behind when the opposition have received a red card and two penalties, followed by the softest penalty ever to square things up against Aberdeen in the 81st minute; is enough to make you believe in a “Rangers effect”. It's fairly common for the League's most successful side(s) to receive more favourable treatment isn't it? I wouldn't chalk it up to conspiracy, rather the natural human reaction to believe that the inferior side have committed a foul, etc. We see the same in in Australia with Sydney, where everybody thinks the FFA have given a directive to refs to favour Sydney for no reason whatsoever.
