+x+xAnybody questioning Gould and Ciro yet? Letting Allamoti and Avo go. Nope… Avo similar body on the line issued to Meaney… Ala… didn’t come on as hoped in 1sts… plenty of potential but closer to the middle methinks…can’t keep ‘em all… Thinking we see Critter in the centres and Taafe at FB next year… I agree. I hope Critter plays centre our defence in the centres was woeful this season. Avo is good at fullback as it is less likely that he will need to defend. I also think that Allamotti will end up in the forwards, but his defence would need to improve. However CC played those guys in the centres, Perham at fullback and Flanno at half to start the season. We may have been experimenting but I don't want to start 2024 like that.

But.... water under the bridge. We have Critta to look forward to as our weapon, and although I doubt he'll be anything better than 75% of his current form in our team, it says more about our halves than anything else. Still a long way to go to fixing this top grade squad and I feel last few years have been wasted, but happy for a surprise and to be proven wrong...

We were also lacking a lot at prop, in the centres and at fullback for most of the season. Sexton / Burton at least has some potential enough to start 2024. We also need to ease some young kids into the NRL. It takes a while to convert a promising you half into an NRL playerm but the right player solves the problem for 5-10 seasons. Any proven quality NRL half will want big money and will not come to a side that isn't a contenders.

Meany almost cost Melbourne the game again. I could have kicked those goals. Just pathetic.
In all seriousness. He was man of the match. Best game I have seen him play.

In all seriousness. He was man of the match. Best game I have seen him play. He did not drop a bomb and was solid at the back and made good metres in attack. Easily their best player. Still can't believe Bellamy didn't play Olam in the wet against Brisbane. Wouldn't have changed the result but you don't keep a guy like that our of your team -especially in the wet where he rushes up and puts enormous pressure on any backline movement. Storm have been pegged back in the last couple of years but still a team that can make prelims. Just amazing. Munster and Grant were better, but still way off their normal levels. They got lucky they snatched the win with a daring cross field kick and the exceptional play by Walbrick. Should be better against Penrith if Hughes returns but it's a bridge too far I think.

The coach, the outside backs, even the forwards who couldn't manage their energy levels coz the halves don't know how to manage the flow of a game with discreet kicks and plays. Face it mate....we don't control games. I know the rules don't really allow for it these days but it's even more important to have quality halves who can understand fatigue and find weaknesses in opposition to place kicks appropriately and allow their team to swing momentum. We have luck plays only.

We have apparently signed Kurt Mann and Drew Hutchinson.
Not world beaters, but I guess we are looking for experienced players who can play multiple positions.

So who exactly in our team went backwards because of the halves???… Very few players look good in a team that is losing. When a team is losing the problem is deeper than 1-2 players. We are regularly having a lot of player turnover, after this last round we need to tone that down. The experienced players are just to do a job while we bring young guys through. Initially we need the forwards to be competitive and we need to be able to defend our line. After that we will see what the halves can do with that platform. No one can build on quicksand.

Yep energy levels had nothing to do with the amount of dropped ball and penalties and resulting extra defence workload… Face it mate… no half in the comp could do what you expect behind our injured, rotated, and most weeks badly beaten pack… and you only solution is signing unavailable players… The halves are what 30 and 60 games into their first grade career???… The main reason I’m concerned about next year is our pack and their inability to give the ball players and in turn the speedsters enough time…

I feel Gus and CC are just trying to buy time and keep the vultures away in 2024 with these signings. I think they know their "plan" won't come to any fruition for afew years yet and this year taught them that they may not see out their plan if they don't at least make the first grade team competitive and keep the fans, board and sponsors on-site. Under normal circumstances (say if we were a Manly or Cowboys or Souths who also missed finals) I would say the fanbase etc could give them the time needed. But that's not where we are at.... we have been pegged to bottom placed of table for best part of 4 years now and missed finals for near 8 years now. There's no time for complete patience. These signings tell me they are shuffling the deck chairs to make it look like they are active with the intent to buy time. Come mid next season though, if we are looking like season 23, they are in trouble.

Geez I was disappointed we lost Montoya..... Always felt he had talent but just looked poor in our poor team.
Finally gets a chance to play in a team doing well and he can play freely without much pressure on an error here or there

Our signings so far show me Gus and CC are not trying to buy quick results.
There are a few players who have left the club and done better elsewhere. That is tricky to pick.
Guys like Thurston, Taupau and Finnacine annoy more because they showed plenty.
Avo showed a bit at fullback we might reget letting hom go.
IMO what we are trying to do is shore up the defence and some grit and composure and hang in the contest.
Then bring good young players into a team with the right standards.
Our backs are good enough to score some points, defence is the area we need to improve.
