+x+x+x+xYeah ummmm,, lets just wait for the FA announcement hey? I mean getting to play Apia, Marconi, the Wolves and Preston again might be fun but otherwise, if this is the list, I reckon Ill be following the U23s more next year... I agree, let's wait for the actual announcement. Even if this list is accurate, it may not tell the whole story. If this is the initial list, the FA will definitely need to outline the pathways for other clubs to join. On it's own, this will become pretty boring pretty quickly. Maybe we'll see a staggered introduction over the next couple seasons for some of the other clubs that weren't quite as ready as the initial selection. That being said, the main surprise/disappointment on that list would be Avondale over Knights. The others seem like fairly logical predictable choices. You get the feeling South Hobart is more about having another state involved to make the comp look less NSW/VIC heavy. Would be a massive shame if there is no representation from Brisbane or Adelaide. It would be an even bigger shame if the main reason those aren't represented was due to problematic state feds. Yeah thats why I have doubts about the validity of this list. Avondale, as far as I know, ONLY meets the financials apart from that nothing on this list applies to them... https://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news/football-australia-opens-expressions-interest-national-second-tier-mens-competitionIf those 10 x clubs are the "first cab off the rank" to be followed in 1-2 years by 4-6 others who just need a little time to get sorted I will jump on board with glee, otherwise this will be a giant flop. As much as I am hungry for pro/rel from the very frist season, if it takes 1-3 season sto get everyone up to speed so be it..... out of all the applicants left, which clubs would you substitute? Not sure who actually is "left" mate.... Green Gully for example, havent heard one way or another NOR Adelaide City for that matter.... Brisbane United bid is the surprising one and if its the Queensland FA that has prevented them from joining then thats just wrong..... Selfishly I would be disappointed if, in VIC, it was only South, Preston and Scamondale.... Thats 9 home games we would get a crowd at and one away at BT Connor... a few of us wil travel to Sydney a couple of times and maybe Hobart . NPL VIC may be dire as dogshit sometimes but at least we get a decent(ish) turn out against Knights, the Bergers, Thunder, Altona... and depending on who is having a good season some of the other clubs.... Will be sad not to have the four Melbourne derbys every year (the ONLY good thing about NPL) and Preston would be great again (although 1-2 more seasons and they would have been back in NPL anyway I reackon).. Syd Cros, Marconi and APIA fans back at Lakeside will be great value but not sure its enough ... at least for me. I just want to know one way or another now..... What started out as exciting seems to be dragging out to a non-event .. who knows?

I think it should've been a 12 team competition...agree another Vic club like Knights would've been ideal with an Adelaide City to come into the frame. As a Preston supporter the South Derby along with Syd Croatia would be the only club to draw a crowd because of Knights...otherwise Friday Nights would look glum playing against the likes of South Hobart!!!

It's usually "oh I completely forgot they even applied", followed by "no chance they get in".

Yeah Avondale are a bit of a "Carlton Soccer Club" but I guess their is a bit of a power void at the moment so they are trying to weasel their way in to the landscape... Disappointed with Heidelberg but they cant stump up the cash .... I have been told they desperately tried.... As for Knights..... not sure whats happening there at the moment.... Their President stepped down, Senior coach is gone after a fairly successful season ????... as an outsider, they seem cashed up so not sure why they wouldn't want to be part of this but, knowing them, I would say its a philosophical reason and not just a financial one....

Personally, they sound like they're a bit light off the pitch, but there's not much to argue with their trajectory on it. Football's merit based after all...

https://twitter.com/dmaikousis/status/1719662072169202094If I have the pro/rel conditions set by football QLD right, in the case of Brisbane United: they weren't promoted "from" the NPL. So if they were relgated from the NSD, they wouldn't be allowed to be relegated into it the NPL. Therefore.... what then? In the case of Sunshine Coast.... relegated means dead? They're not "from" the NPL anymore. Bizarre Nick Galatas is up about this and it's telling that Krayem is engaging.

Its a prime example of Football QLD NOT wanting to lose clubs from their top tier and fairly despicable as now its clear why so many QLD applications pulled out when they did.... Them NOT wanting a relegated NSD club dropping into their NPL means: 1) pro/rel must at least be a hot button topic with state feds and FA 2) Cavalucci is an easily bribable moron

+xIn the case of Sunshine Coast.... relegated means dead? They're not "from" the NPL anymore. Funny thing is that now that they've been given the boot at all levels, they no longer meet the first criteria for the second division. Vision - A compelling vision for the NST and the club, including the ability to be sustainable, progressive, engaging to the community, and contribute positively to the growth of Australian football and player pathways.
FQ have effectively removed the player pathways for Sunshine Coast FC.

FQ have effectively removed the player pathways for Sunshine Coast FC. Sunshine Coast have arguably the best infrastructure for promotion to the A-league. Good stadium Large enough population to tap into No other competing professional mens sports (Sunshine coast Lightning) Its such a short-sighted move by Football Queensland to kick them out. Will be interesting to see how that plays out if and when they get into the A-league and they arent at all affiliated with their state body.

I don't think on this site would argue that the State Feds, over the decades have done a lot of damage to creating a national domestic professional competition, self interest and greed has over ridden all other considerations.
Sometimes I think we blame the national admins when what they have to work with is very often a divided group and entitled, greedy, self interested federations, makes for poor national decisions..

Regarding Brisbane United, I think there is some shared responsibility between the "club" and state federation if indeed it hasn't been accepted into the NST.
Having this floating entity which other clubs can strap onto is neither here nor there - not merging the clubs, but not entirely independent anymore. Case in point if BU were to be relegated to NPL Q. It wouldn't be fair to have member clubs of BU and BU itself in the same tier because of a conflict of interest - feeders could just go easy on them to get their sugar daddy back to the higher tier. On the other hand, if BU gets relegated, you would then face the prospect of relegating all the feeders to ensure they never meet in the same tier - which could be a bit of a dogs breakfast and you kind of see where the fed is coming from there.
In other leagues, you would usually relegate or dissolve the II club (or block it from getting promoted). But BU is arse about where the feeder club(s) is the "real" club.
I think BU is a nice-ish idea but maybe not compatible with an open shop league structure.
From this standpoint, looks to me like Strikers are better off licking their wounds and applying next round as.... the Brisbane Strikers. I don't see why they needed the other clubs anyway TBH.

Perfectly valid point this.... Maybe Im misunderstanding but isnt BU wanting to have BU in NSD and the "feeder clubs" contunuing to play in their respective current leagues.... FA QLD is basically (to my understanding... please corret me if Im wrong) that if BU goes joins the new comp then the the three current clubs will be forced to exit the NPL system and wont be allowed to re-join at the same level should BU be relegated???? Surely a compromise could be made, if FAQLD wanted to extend their reach and the ambition of their clubs they could have looked at ways to make it work....

The truth about Adelaide City is that although they are still OKish on the field, their financial situation is very poor.

The problem is as much that the FA stated that Clubs would have to leave their current League, and so they've all based their decision about - whether to apply, and then
- the structure of their application
Then BU and the SA thing have come along and FA have let them ignore it

BU's model and by the looks of it, the only way they are attracting enough $$$ Sponsors, is as a Club for the whole city
Corporate Sponsorship, Lord Mayor backing, Rebuild Perry Park the "Spiritual Home' of Qld Football None of this can be used by the Strikers, they're just another club in town and not even NPL anymore

LOL- a couple of junior coaches came here from Atalanta for a few weeks. City's biggest problem is they only have about 500 faithful supporters.

+xLOL- a couple of junior coaches came here from Atalanta for a few weeks. City's biggest problem is they only have about 500 faithful supporters. I followed them as a kid then jumped on Adelaide United. I'm not a faithful supporter at all, but you know what? I can see myself getting back on City. It's kind of funny also that they tie up with Atalanta. Nobody could have told me as a kid that Bergamo would be one of my favourite cities for a weekender after moving to Europe 😅 maybe it was all meant to be. Except for the maybe not submitting a bid bit.

+x+xFrom this standpoint, looks to me like Strikers are better off licking their wounds and applying next round as.... the Brisbane Strikers. I don't see why they needed the other clubs anyway TBH. BU's model and by the looks of it, the only way they are attracting enough $$$ Sponsors, is as a Club for the whole city
Corporate Sponsorship, Lord Mayor backing, Rebuild Perry Park the "Spiritual Home' of Qld Football None of this can be used by the Strikers, they're just another club in town and not even NPL anymore Brisbane United splashed itself everywhere, basically going to do everything including solve world hunger, then did a Harold Holt in May

+xIs that the same Simon Hill whose professional life in this country is reliant on the Aleagues being the ONLY game in town? Im shocked..... That doesn't make sense mate. Simon Hill seems to be the only person on TV actively pushing for a NST and connecting the pyramid every chance he gets!

Possibly a naive question...
If a team is relegated from the A2 league, why couldn't they go back to the NPL1 from whence they came, with a bye if need be to minimise that league's disruption?
