I get that some think we need a steady hand to push the team around at 7… but I think we need a 7 with a little X factor that can also push the team around… its 7exy all day for mine…
Pleases with the performance… up front was where this and last trial mattered for me…

If having 7exy means Burto and Hutch play off for 6.. that’s atill a no brainer for me…
CC has plenty to consider.. and it’s a nice problem to have…

Defense very good, just unfortunate they capitalised on a mistake. We may not go too bad this year, and from what I saw from the sharks way too many line ball aka forward passes and it will bring them undone.

Getting the defence in order at the start of the season is essential.
Dropped balls need improving otherwise the attack being a bit rusty isn't surprising.

+xI get that some think we need a steady hand to push the team around at 7… but I think we need a 7 with a little X factor that can also push the team around… its 7exy all day for mine… Pleases with the performance… up front was where this and last trial mattered for me… Sexy was terrible. He can’t go to the line and throw nothing but hospital passes. Hutch isn’t much better but he is better currently.
I was hoping Papali could do something but not catching that bomb really surprised me. Just as bad as Taaffe again without the experience.
In the end the truth is. Our forwards still aren’t big enough. Our spine still isn't smart enough. But fortunately our backs are fast enough. We might be a chance to finish 8th to 12th

Nicho will do more than steady them up… he makes them a serious threat every set inside the 30… Critter will be great for us… loved his first play in our colours which was a good whack in D… as that combo on that side builds it will create plenty of opportunities … U could see in Burtos play the last two weeks his instructions were to get early ball to the edges… his kicking game heaps better this week… and is always a threat when he runs… as the combo grows his decision making will improve…

We might be a chance to finish 8th to 12th Still early days and it was only a trial . They scored the winning try off an unfortunate error. For the first 60 mins or so Sharks had more ball. Grinding out a close loss isn't that bad.

hd, I have heard many Dogs fans say they are happy this year if we are still in the game with 10 to go. I feel that we are on track to achieve that and more. We will win way more than 7 this year if these trials are any indication.

I think you’re being harsh… Hutch had 60 odd minutes to perform, and did himself no favours on either side of the ball… I also think youre being harsh on our forwards… some very solid performances tonight… against a pack missing a past it Funicane and someone who I can’t remember… 8th would be great… 12th would be an improvement…

The choice is down to Hutch or Sexton, I think Hutch will probably get the round 1 gig.

Dman's comment about Sexton having limited opportunities are right, but that shows what CC was thinking before the game.

I wouldn’t drop players after one bad performance
.
So I don't know if CC will change his mind.
We signed Hutch for a reason, either more depth or CC wanted some competition for the spot.

Next game is serious and Taaffe has to be better, Based on CCs pre game presser Hutch gets it… Unless TraciiGuns is fit TTAAFFEE gets it… What happens at 13/14, and whether Shoes starts in front of The Farmer at prop is the big question… The Fish not as impressive at 13 tonight… Curran is a gun… Manncrush creates a bunch of uncertainty for the D line…

Positive was Burto was great. Kicking game was close to perfect. Running game good and defensively solid. I think he likes having Critta there.
Let’s be honest. We both would have a number of better halfbacks and fullbacks in this team, plus adding two good props and we are a premiership threat. The young guys will give us that. 6th to 10tj this year and I’m stoked.

I really don’t want us to play safe with selections to start the year… Tracey will probably play reserve grade. IMO CC is more focused on defence. The conditions at Belmore may have been a factor. If the attack doesn’t fire round 1 or if we are still dropping balls, I hope that we get changes for round 2. What we are getting from Hutch is more or less what I expected, steady but lacking X-Factor.

Agree… no point dropping someone after one bad game… but dropping someone from a trial team is like be half pregnant…it’s not actually a thing… Do you however ‘drop’ someone that while solid, didn’t provide the spark/direction you’d (I’d) hoped for???… Ithink I’m gonna watch both games again in the morning and come back to this… the coach probably drinks less beer than me during agamessz Ot looks like CC will go with Hutch… and I’m not gonna go down the Hutchhope is the new Hayzehope road yet like some might just yet… The comp for spots is great… a nice problem to have… it it’d be nicer choosing between Nicho and Lil Pappy…

I think we are trying to build, build the defence and build combinations .
I don't expect the same 17 each week and I know that a slow start can be a problem.
A fast start is easier when the spine is backing up from the previous season or has played lower grades together.
The Burto kick for Foxy with Xerri in support was a great play.
To win games we need to keep it close then execute a few key attacking plays.
We may put 50 on a team this season, but I don't expect that before July.
Are we close to winning each week and improving each week?
If yes, that will eventually turn into wins..
This trail was a step up compared to the week before.
