The top is slowly closing so you expect games to maybe be less predictable now the stronger teams are clinching their fist so I predict
Wanderers 2-0
Western united - bulls 2-1 in a fun match
Mariners 3-1 with home advantage
Victory 3-0 home advantage we are poor ATM
Sydney 3-1 to good for jets
Perth vs Adelaide could go either way there will be goals I'm going tipping a draw

I think you give MV too much credit. Way too many draws this season. MC aren't terrible, plenty of quality in that squad, and these derbies always go either way. Weather has been cooling off this week so it should be a high tempo game.

MelbCityGuy - I watch the game cast to my TV these days so I don't comment much during play these days. We have certainly lost a lot of our orange posters but maybe they are just content to be lurking and reading until we have a bit more to talk about. It has been a hard season to get a feel for our team with a great start, a woeful drop away, games lost we should have played out and won, disruption and the like. It can be nicer just to sit back and watch some seasons without feeling the need to go blow for blow analysing each match. That was the first game in a while where we showed consistent control and the ability to pass through any defence throughout the 90 minutes. It would be summed up nicely to say we are playing like a team in 8th place showing the potential to have been higher up the table with quality and still able to win more games - without showing the killer instincts and finishing of a clear top 6 side. Jelacic showed some really silky ball skills tonight. His decision making is a bit suspect with plenty of growth to come and reminding me of the movie Goal where the coach kicks the ball long and tells the player to get there before it. He runs too far with it through danger when he could have passed it safely. I enjoyed watching him tonight though for the ball control at speed and with his changes of pace and body trickery to make space and time. Some of our best passing on display tonight. We are very good at passing into a tightly defended space (often outnumbered) to focus attention then immediately passing away again into space - leaving all the pressure and opposition numbers behind in the moment and opening up great opportunities. We are woeful at converting our opportunities and more woeful at putting a body into the danger spot - often having brilliant play to get the ball wide and forward and absolutely nobody inside to receive it. I suspect it may be because we are using our forwards in the build up and for distraction to create the build up at the expense of being prepared to finish. Wanderers put so many dangerous plays together and we got lucky for some and desperate/organised enough for the others. I thought the handball penalty came off Aldred's chest first and by the sounds of it that should not have been called a handball. I can't be bothered looking up the rules this time since Freke saved a pretty poor shot by Antonsson. Nothing like a Roar last 15 minutes to make a person nervous. We did a bit better this time to push forward with the ball rather than sitting back and absorbing - a great improvement in our mindset in my eyes - but bloody hell, it got close. Brown had a good game - probably his best game since he came back. I still think it is Burke-Gilroy's best position but he did a good job at right fullback tonight. O'Shea definitely more involved tonight and I don't think our more structured and capable control playing the ball out was a coincidence. Perhaps having Gomulka in as the second DM (which I thought was the role we picked him for) frees O'Shea enough to move forward. Got to love any game where O'Shea fires his mandatory shot at goal way over the bar early in the game. It has been a sure indicator that he is in the match and scheming away and we tend to play better in games where he gives us that sign early. Waddingham showed more of his physical presence tonight than we have been seeing from him lately. He lost his way a bit looking to run into clear space for a few months rather than fighting for his patch of grass but got some of that physicality back this game. I may be overthinking (probably am) - but I felt like our first two corners, where we had someone jog over and take a short kick after O'Shea had been setting up to take the shot, were a deliberate play to mess with Wanderers heads. For Aldred's goal, we had a player jogging over again but the ball came straight in and it looked a bit like Aldred was the only one making a run into the box giving him momentum and surprise to beat Marcelo and the other Wanderers around him. He was clearly outnumbered 3 or 4 to 1 but the defenders may have been napping expecting another short kick. Could be just imagining that but it would be nice if we had that strategic level in our thought. Great to get a win off one of those deadly close games, and even better with the quality of our play in possession. More of that please Ruben. Less of the fingernail biters and buttclenchers though while you're at it.

I also like our youngsters, which we should hang on to as if our lives dependent upon it. I think any chance of glory this year is gone tho.

+x1st vs 2nd today. Huge match. Come on Mariners. Make it a challenge to the end. With Rufer out from his red card that usually upsets a lot of the Nix resilience. Is there still some regional support for the Wollongong Fire Chickens?

It just makes the Sydney derby even more interesting next Saturday, WSW without it’s too best attacking players this season and Sydney FC without its two best defensive players this season as well.
Both will need to rely on their experienced players if they want to win.

Twice in this season Davila has put a hand forcefully on an opponents throat and twice VAR has not even considered it worth the refs attention and not even a yellow card. Against Roar, Davila got up off the ground by putting his hand and weight on his Roar opponent's throat - no card and no review by the ref. Today he forced Risdon (I think) back with a hand gripping his throat, then came at him again from behind with a 2 handed shove. How the fuck is that not violent conduct twice this season? Pisses me off when it is such a blatant violent act being ignored.

+xEntertaining game this one, at the new venue. Is this , Western Melbourne or Western Victoria, looks pretty rural. Having Davila, Penha, De Silva and Rodrigues all on the field in good form made for some very entertaining football. A lot of skilful ball carrying on show and both combining well with their teams to create strong attacking raids. Great win for WU - they deserved it and more to the point they fought right until the end pushing for another goal - making Macarthur unable to focus just on scoring.

That was probably Daniel Arzani’s best game he’s played this season and includes the couple others off the bench he looked the most dangerous player on the pitch beating players like old version of himself.
Its good to hear he said that he felt physically the best he’s been so credit to Popa and the coaching staff in turning it around if he can keep it up then good signs going forward for him.
I feel Melbourne City’s season is done, they got a decent squad but they not playing well as a team this season or not consistent enough.
Also great to see Western United play at their home facility not their home stadium yet a big step for them which is good, and good to see them win at their first game too they finally got a home.

If he can just get his finishing up so he scored at least 6 goals a season he would bang the socceroos door down. He has done a great job bringing his flair back while improving his defence

It seems he’s got he’s edge back along with a different mentality thanks to Popa who were know is a great disciplinarian anyway. I would not rule him for the Socceroos after this.

Given the controversy (a) the last he did it and got away with it and (b) the Jets / Melb Victory W-League incident, it is hard to follow why this has been ignored. Maybe the A-League's are still busy deciding on the Lederer punishment for entering the field and abusing a match official? Still looking forward to the strong statement the game makes with regards to that incident.
