Good news is the skill in this match is lower
Bad news, the professionalism and effort leaves our game in the dust

The issue with playing our best team in the olympics if we make it is almost none of the team today makes our best team. That can be demotivating for one thing since we need to qualify with the current team and second combinations have to form.
You have 3 overage players, robertson, volpato, circati, bos and irankunda who have never played for the olyroos then yazbek, neiwenhof and triantis who have barely played. That leaves a grand total of 7 from this squad. Im not dogmatic, im ok if we go with that, just think there are tradeoffs

Even if it is 7 or 8 from this squad, that's still significant. Probably only that amount are good enough for the squad anyways.

Both teams racing every ball like their life depends on it
Need to show the aussies this, you are in a real tournament for a once in a lifetime opportu ity to qualify for the second biggest football event on eart
You have better skills than these teams, it is in your hands if you want to put this level of effort into qualifying

If he is sensible he selects gauci, our best right back and a technical midfielder like nisbet who can cover a number of positions. Striker is another option , but toure is already similar to yengi

Just looked at the indonesian squad. Surprisingly decent with some euro players
Var for a possible qatar pen. Would be a gut punch
Qatar usually get lucky with pens

But I think the ball is in their court and they should be favourites for sure. Really hoping for South Korea lol

What a disgusting penalty that was for Qatar. It's might be a foul in midfield but that's just natural jostling not to mention the Qatari also starts a fall. The Qatar players swarm the ref saying it should be a read and are basically dictating what he has to do. What a rort.

Makes next game a must win given how qatar seem to totally unsuspiciously get the refs favour

Any swarming or instructing of a ref needs an immediate yellow. The worst for me is the grabbing of a ref's arm when they're signalling.

2:0 Qatar and second yellow for Indonesia. Laughable red really but the player needs to jump much higher in the air to avoid barely clipping the knee. Of course the Qatar player rolls like he's been shot and 2 players basically hand gesturing what the ref needs to do then start applauding. Ludicrous.

He was very good against Australia at the Asian Cup.

I watch it again and again and think the Indonesian player just had a bit of brain think 'maybe hurt him without it looking so' why doesn't he jump way high to avoid any contact? Ridiculous in all aspects. It's not a card but with the most minimal touch and lack of jump plus the crowding of ref and near theatrics it's easy die the ref to decide.

Thinking back over the 13 games that make up this olyroo campaign. The three teams we struggled against were panama tajikistan and jordan. So its probably true we are still struggling against defensive teams that like to counter even at this age group. As much as the technique has improved we need it to further improve (also off the ball movement needs to improve)
But also we need domestic practice against a low black. Promotion and relegation gives this year in year out

Found out the number of completed passes in our first half was around 300. Thats super slow ball moement given there was little contested possession and we played a possession game. Way slower than any of our other games. Sorry for the zillion takes. Still trying to understand what went wrong
Im just really baffled by the performance and lack of energy. Will be interesting to watch again

Will be interesting to watch again I don't think it was an easy game to play, even through we got players that capable of breaking a deep block defence down we didnt take enough risk in possession which has been a common theme for oz teams in general when facing asian opposition. Vidmar said post game they were wary of doing this and in theory it became a cat and mouse game of not conceding on the counter attack as well. At least we got a point on board and Indonesia need to win so I suspect a more open game, get a win in the next 2 games and we are probably get out of the group.

I book the first person that's not relevant that comes up to me and doesn't leave when I tell them to (relevant to me = Part of the foul or captains. Max 4 players [2 from each team] should be with me). I take a very Rugby Union approach to things like that. And anyone who grabs my arm (luckily that hasn't happened yet) would be getting a straight red a la Mr. Griffiths in the Grand Final years back.
