Hoping it's the Australian Premier League, for the lols

Would've been great, but I think some lawn bowls comp owns that name!

What are the major things we expect to be announced soon?
Additional clubs
Competition naming
Major sponsor
Broadcaster
Eventual pro/rel format with NPL
Anything else?

All good, I get ya :) But no, it will be a cold cold day in Hell before that happens.

Although, if it DOES take off I wouldn't be surprised if a certain "saviour of soccer" starts sniffing around the edges looking for a way back in.

Yeah Ive heard the same about APL, but still ... would be great wouldnt it :)

I think your list is in the right order... Im hearing 2 clubs "for sure" with another 2-4 being toasted over the negotiations .... maybe in the next 1-2 weeks if at all... either way minimum 10 clubs for 2025 , dont ask me who the clubs are, I have no idea, but I heard they are NOT NSW or VIC.... and if not expanded it will be either 27 rounds H and A and then each team once (to be drawn) or 36 round H and A each team twice
Name, Major sponsor and broadcaster have all been finalised, just waiting on clubs before (I think) a major launch is organised.... Have been told this is broadcaster's request along with some of the clubs as they wanna re-fresh branding, sponsors etc. - (also dont know if it is bullshit but I was told the league logo will be on the sleeve ala EPL which would be cool)

Pro/Rel format to NPLs is proving to be a HUGE clusterfuck from what I hear... I predict it will be kicked down the raod until next FA AGM as the holdup is clearly at the state federation level....

It's great news. Maybe they'll hang off any announcements until the A-League season has concluded?
I think the clubs were guaranteed to be in the NST for the first two or three seasons? So they'll need to have the pro/rel sorted by December of the season prior to its introduction.
Exciting times. They definitely needed this extra time to get something proper sorted. Can you imagine if it went ahead this year and all the clusterfucks were being aired publicly, not a good look. Want to come across as professional from the get go.

Sounds like somebody doesnt really want a second division in this country to commence?

Why Robbo? Its not going to take anything away from your franchise league....  except quite a few supporters.

I'm really looking forward to the NST, the quicker we get in place a pro/reg process in place the better for Australian football.
Not sure why you got so upset. maybe I got the sponsors all wrong, maybe it's Stavros painting services.

Need to chill a bit mate, it's all a laugh, Melbourne Greeks don't laugh at themselves enough.

Wow, I didnt realise you were for promotion/relegation... Does that mean you believe Aleague franchises would survive playing in the NPL or lower? I would love to see some of the front of shirt sponsorship deals in a couple of seasons time......

When does the Aleague finish up for the year?? Im not sure if that is a consideration on the NST timing as FA isnt involved in the Aleague anymore and seem to be distancing themselves from it more and more.... I wouldnt put it past them to announce around Aleague GF day as a final FU to the APL though, that would he hilarious.

Why wouldn't I be interested in pro/reg, this is what happens in the football world I follow. I want what is best for football in this country, if that means no Sydney FC, which I doubt as they have an average attendances of 15K, which is 4 times better than Sth Melbourne's peak, I'm ok, because I want football to grow.
You, however, unlike Ange, it's Sth Melbourne or nothing.

Even after the nst is introduced p and r has major issues.
How much are lower div clubs going to invest if the odds of being promoted from the npl are 1 in 100. It also stifles investment from higher up clubs if you know that the investment is unsustainable if u get relegated. Sure nsl teams that have been defacto relegated for 20 years survived in the literal sense, but they stopped producing top players like they did in the 90s. So oz football loses all their investment in academies when good teams get relegated.

I think we should focus on promotion at all levels in the near term. Has most of the benefits of p and r without the risks. To get the full benefits we need a system where if u win the npl you get promoted, end of story. To do this id like a conference division as the 3rd div, with subsidized travel from the fa if needed

2 conferences of 18 or 3 with 12 and 1 p and r position per npl. Then id have the npls be small, perhaps 10 to 12 teams, so ur pdds of going up is high making investment attractive

In the football world you follow do they get promoted or relegated based on attendance? Fark dude that is grim. is that an American thing?...  What a strange football world you follow, next thing you know your going to tell me they have add breaks during games, they play some teams twice and others three times depending on what the tv cameraman wants and recently decided against ranking teams on the table (or do plastics still call it the ladder?) based on goal difference first because scoring goals is NOT the way a match is decided? hahahahaha what a farce. The BEST for football in this country? Yukkkk!!! thats gross.

As for Mr Posta ... the guy is an employee mate.. He is forging ahead with his career, good luck to him.. If he comes to Melbourne in August and doesn't show his face down at Lakeside and bring at least a dozen players to attend a training session with the juniors and a practice match he can go get farked for all i care.

South Melbourne Hellas for life ... everything else is an illusion, NOBODY is more important than the club.

thats sounds like a damn good plan and an achievable goal... Your points are all valid dude but as someone mentioned in the past, lets not let perfect get the he way of good... The most imortant thing, even if not perfect from the start, is a mechanism for the ABILITY to be rewarded for doing well both on and off the park... all other things will fall into place with good will, hard work and time....

I will probably support enthusiastically any motion towards progress since im an optimistic personality
.
However if it were up to me i think the best way to get there is to have a period where we only have promotion and no relegation until we have enough of a league structure in plus

Uh-oh, not all is happy clappy

Melbourne Knights Football Club can today confirm that it will not be, and has no intention of applying for the recently announced National Second Tier in it’s current proposed state.

While being a long time advocate for such a competition, a number of key elements remain to be of concern.

The Club firmly believes it to be in the best interests of the game in Australia that the current proposed competition either be further delayed, or abandoned entirely.

The Club remains an advocate of an NST and welcomes further dialogue with Football Australia.

How many do you think they would have in attendance after 20 years of being relegated?

I'll raise you that with another hypothetical mathematical formula (yes I also calculated it for shits and gigs):

They'll have less in attendance after one 1 year of being relegated, than Souths did in the first season out of NSL.

HAHAHAHAAH

Our very first game out of the NSL was a home match against Heidelberg (who we hadnt faced in a few seasons since they dropped out after the Collingwood Warriors debacle) there was a very decent crowd 11-12K from memory, it was a sunny day ... we all tried to convince ourselves that state league would not be so bad, if the new dawn didnt want us we could at least play proper football clubs ...... 3 -4 rounds in and we were getting WU sized crowds at home..... shit almost 20 years ago now ... feels like a lifetime in the wilderness.

Sure I agree if the NST begins with 10 or 12 or 14 clubs, get it to 16 or 18 before relegation i agree. Dont hold out for connection to Aleague though, thats a false horizon...

I think there are some promising signs tho

1) unlike the mls we are likely to have overlap in crowd numbers with the best attended nst teams having bigger crowds than the worst attended a league teams
2) it is looking tougher and tougher for the a league to expand to the minimum 16 teams through liscence sales. Might still happen mind u
3) the fa is now split from the apl and has the final say. The split between the apl and the fa is a game changer and it is no coincidence that an nst is announced soon after the split
4) the apl already leaked a plan involving linking with the nst. It wasnt too popular amongst nst advocates but i think it shows that their opening proposals arent just stonewalling. Whatever gets accepted will almost certainly have to have some protections for liscenced clubs for a period of time. My favoured model is to have them so that they cannot be relegated below the nst until their liscences run out and they can extend that period by x years if they are willing to do things like build stadiums etc. In any case their model is not bad since i think it fulfils 2 criteria we need - getting to 3 divisions and giving temporary protection to liscenced clubs. If we went with their model id like to see the nst expanded into the conference league once it gets connected with the a league system

What we needed was to have the a league quickly expand to 10 rhen bring back the nsl as a 2nd division

Would only happen if the fa split from the a league tho, which one part of the crawford report we didnt follow for 15 years. Cest la vie

What we needed was to have the a league quickly expand to 10 rhen bring back the nsl as a 2nd division

Would only happen if the fa split from the a league tho, which one part of the crawford report we didnt follow for 15 years. Cest la vie

Sorry to be a stickler but what EXACTLY did Lowy follow from the Crawford report :P Cest La Vie indeed :)

the crawford report was very long and had a zillion recommendations, apparently most of them got implemented https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Report_of_the_Independent_Soccer_Review_Committee

I haven't done a scoreboard to see which got implemented and which didn't tbh

Yep, that's pretty much what I noticed adding that up.

But, average of approx 2800 for that season. I doubt Sydney FC would get that right now in a second division.
