+xon a side note being the thread is of expansion blahblah..... Obviously things are hotting up APL wise - I noticed that article was from Code Sports. I had interest in hearing the Adam Peacock series SAVING FOOTBALL but ffs you got to subscribe for that as well. $10 a/m, is this worth it by any users ?What a piss off, anything you want to listen to cost you ffs. To be fair, people need to get paid. Advertising revenue isn't what it used to be. That being said, they always ask too much. I reckon it would be way easier to get 10 people to pay $1 per month than it is to get 1 person to pay $10 per month.

As soon as the season's finished I cancel my subscription so it only works out about $5 a month pro-rata'd. People need to stop moaning and just pay it. Christ a schooner is $10 now.

Peacock has good intentions and tries to be hard hitting but nothing really groundbreaking....

At least a schooner I can enjoy from start to finish even at 15/20bucks but not something that delivers like 0 alcohol and leaves you wondering why bother :)

Only thing missing were the mounted riot police.... apart from that it was a 90s flashback :) Bloody unreal. You'll get crowds coming back mate, I spoke to a bunch of youngsters who came for the curiosity (all Aleague fans) and they said they had no idea it would be this good... theyll be back next year.

"........as the governing body we would never disclose or publicly discuss any matter pertaining to any club. Every club expects us to maintain parameters of confidentiality in exercising our obligations, we will continue to do so in this case."

hence my comment something in the water. Their Fed played hardball aganst any of their Clubs, the Clubs stand by confidentiality, therefore there is no win to anything but stand offs. Why I said its a cop out, someone or a Club needs to stand up once and for all and have balls OR the FA need to muscle in more than they'd like but I suspect even JJ has his barriers re the Feds having to work with them.

It seems to me that Cavallucci is the one playing ‘ cloak and dagger’ with this, after all he holds all the aces.

Football Australia confirmed in January that it was in a Request for Proposal phase to fill those final spots and ESPN understands that process will wrap-up in July with news to come after the Olympics

What's their end game. They want 4 new teams to bring in $100 million right? Then what? There's 16 teams and no new licenses to flog. The MLS is up to 38 teams or something and who knows how many more they'll sell but clearly in Australia you'd think 16 teams or thereabouts is the ceiling.

Thanks for posting this article. Here's a cool little titbit from there. The cost of playing football in Australia -- especially as one approaches the elite pathways -- is constantly raised as an issue in Australian football but, for the most part, there hasn't been much in the way of improvement. Admittedly, as Football Australia CEO James Johnson himself has anecdotally shared, there are plenty of cheap community avenues to playing football. Pointing to AusPlay data, the federation told to ESPN that the annual expenditure for football participants across the nation was $382 -- less than swimming ($416), tennis ($454), and gymnastics ($929) but more than netball ($270), cricket ($258), and Australian Rules ($209) -- and that, thanks to a longer season, average cost per session to play came in at $5, a dollar cheaper than cricket, the same price as netball, and one dollar more than AFL.

You slipped past this part though eh :) Football Australia argues that elite services come at a cost. The fees associated with elite pathways are expected to cover not just training sessions and games but also "a club technical director, accredited coaches, strength and conditioning, medical staff, all training uniforms, match uniforms, tracksuits, kit bags, [and more]," for a season that can last around 44 weeks -- which also brings into focus the costs of facilities.

https://x.com/SENTassie/status/1802482324984271195FA turned them down initially for insufficient funding So needed to become a "Tasmanian team' to get political and financial support Within Tasmania though, differing opinions as to whether to go NST or aim for A-league is dividing political support Reckons sponsors will be there if they get State Government come to the party

+xFA turned them down initially for insufficient funding So needed to become a "Tasmanian team' to get political and financial supportWithin Tasmania though, differing opinions as to whether to go NST or aim for A-league is dividing political support Reckons sponsors will be there if they get State Government come to the party Really dumb decision to go down that path. If it's branded as a club for the whole state, it would mean games would need to be played in (at least) both Hobart and Launceston. It's a good 2.5hr drive between the two. Similar to drive time between Sydney and Newcastle. Distance is actually further away, but there is literally nothing in between, so average km/h is higher. People took the piss when Western United declared they were representing everything from Tarneit to Ballarat. That's half the distance of this. Also, Hobart and Launceston aren't exactly what you'd call friends. They don't even drink the same beer. IMO, Hobart in the Championship would be the smart move. Too much financial losses in the A-League. If they had mega rich owners that were happy dumping in money then fine, but it doesn't seem like that is the case.
