Seems to me that our women's football career stream is too new for us to be expecting much from it. The wleague gave very limited options (low visibility, short season and few teams) and the aleagues women's competition is still an infant with a few more options. Watching the last U17s games we just looked to be a normal park side playing seriously for fun. Our passing and combinations were not a professional level. It is only once girls see that there is a viable career path, and commit their lives to it that we can expect to see results flow. The men's U17s have had that career path in some form 'forever', and for those who are good at football it has been a possible, while not guaranteed, option. I think it will be several more years before we see the Matildas effect resulting in young girls who are good at football choosing to stay with it as they grow up and actually reach our view in national setups.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.
