[rant]Why can't they make a fucking football game with a PROPER.FUCKING.SEASON.MODE!!!
ie. You have a calendar in which you have matches in SEVERAL CUPS (eg FA, League, UEFA, UCL etc). Then at the end of the season teams are promoted/relegated etc. You lose players to international matches, and you even get to chose a nation in which to play the internationals.
Pisses me off in FIFA09, you play your 38 matches in the season... then that's it. Im already going to trade FIFA09 in.
With MLB: The Show, there are 162 games in a season!! Each takes 1 hour to complete. Value.For.Money. :P[/rant]

But my point is EA (and Konami) have never really made an effort to make a 'career' or 'season' mode that really simulates real life that I can recall. The only things close would be Be A Pro and i think it was FIFA06 where you started in like League 2 as a manager and had to work your way up. Also, I cant recall a game where UEFA Cup or UCL is worked into a domestic league's schedule (like the domestic cups are).

God I haven't played a baseball game since MLB featuring Ken Griffey Jr on N64.
Sounds like MLB The Show is a proper baseball game, not the arcade type stuff that seems to flood the market.
Who do you follow in MLB marty?

Marty, the Master League in PES does most of what you want.
You start in 2nd Division with shit players and play to get promoted, buy players and transfer. You play in the UEFA Cup, Champions League and D1 or D2 cups (cup comp for those in your division/league) if you qualify. You also lose players for a couple weeks every now and then as they have been called up to International Duty.
ML has been doing this for years. And it goes for like...forever I think. Players retire and then are "reborn" a year or so later as a 17yo with low stats in the free agent pool. You have to build up your team and gain experience with your players (player growth). Growth is done auto, but obviously they have to be played. Your players can also exceed their expected growth.
Man, the amount of hours I wasted on ML in PES5 and PES6 is amazing.
