Might be a good idea to have all talk about other sports in this thread so they don't disrupt the football threads. I'll kick it off Afl going back to China?

Can't really stomach a Manchester Derby these days... Formula E is the only one I can kinda get into - but that depends on the track - the street circuits they make for some of the Formula E races are absolutely horrendous, so I usually only watch Monaco, and maybe the Berlin race. Although, this year (with cars that can actually generate energy a lot better now), they're racing on purpose-built circuits: Shanghai being held on a shortened version of the Chinese GP circuit, and the next round in Portland being held on the same circuit as IndyCar. Still, quite a big performance gap between these: Monaco 2023 F1 pole time: 1:11.365 Monaco 2024 FE pole time: 1:29.861 Portland 2023 IndyCar pole time: 0:58.3195 Portland 2023 FE pole time: 1:08.931

Got A League GF. FA Cup German Cup and Championship Playoff is on Sunday.
Always keep an eye on NHL playoffs. MLB network is good background noise Sunday night is a game is on. NFL Sunday nights are great. It can come slowly though.

+xThere are other forums on this website for other sports. Can we please not. I mean.. I see your point - but all the other forums on this website these days are completely inactive, and/or overrun by bots (except for one Canterbury Bulldogs thread in the League channel). I think (and am completely open to discussion) that one singular thread that we can discuss other sports in should be ok/allowed (as long as we also adhere to the No Sherrin rule, because... well it's a pissant sport).

My bookmark is Australian football but my brain is trained to not even notice the stickied stuff, which are excellent topics.
ET gets some time but people just don't go to the other places. Creatures of habit we all are. I hate the FTBL spam but agree topics can have their limits. It's just the active place here.

Afl is having a bit of drama with a coach swearing to himself. They want to fine him which is probably a bit excessive in our game you'd get a yellow card so it again and it's red which seems fair

If I see a coach (or player for that matter) just swearing at themselves in frustration, I just let it slide... If it's specifically directed at someone, then that's a different matter..

Interesting comment I saw on Facebook today - there's a post from A-Leagues floating around about Vukovic saying how he regretted his red-card in the 2008 Grand Final, and how he worked to turn it around, etc. Top comment is Alvin Ceccoli basically saying it's ok to assault a referee (however you want to frame that incident)

One of the good things about women's football is the refs don't cop nowhere near as much petulant pathetic behaviour from players, fans and staff

+xOne of the good things about women's football is the refs don't cop nowhere near as much petulant pathetic behaviour from players, fans and staff HAHAHA this is true, although... it does come across a bit more backhanded from them! They know how to question with a bit of respect and class.. My first game I refereed in the middle was an NPLW 17s game in Canberra. Having not been near women's football (at a grassroots/local level) since I stopped playing around 10 years earlier, was very interesting to referee. I admittedly made the mistake of allowing the game to be a bit more physical than those on the field expected it to be (having not made the mental adjustment from boys to girls in physicality, etc), so the distinct thing I can remember hearing from one of the girls mid way through the second half (which was after I realised that I was letting a bit go - but thought it was unfair to everyone to change my approach because the game wasn't getting out of hand) after t one of their team-mates believed she was fouled was "Just get up, the ref's not giving anything to anyone today." Was she fouled? I dunno, it was an inconsequential tackle in the middle of the park that I wouldn't be able to remember the specifics of.

I let the girls kick the shit out of each other the way blokes do. Disrespectful in my opinion to treat them any differently. Speaking of which, the NRLW matches go for 35 minutes a half. That's a crock of shit too. Imagine women's football going for 40 minutes a half because.....reasons. Patronising and condescending. If I were the women I'd be agitating for the full 40 because sure as eggs some neanderthal would be squawking 'they don't even play the same amount as the men'.

I mean... that's the way I treated the game to start with, but was clear the girls didn't expect that.. but oh well. We learn Interesting you bring up the time of a match though: I'm quite certain the pilot run of the first FIFA Women's World Cup was run to 2x 40 minute halves.. EDIT: Ah, I lie: This stayed on into the first official Women's World Cup as well

know nothing of whatever the success they have. Luv watching these in the zone top golfers ie Canadian Open. I know some people dislike the game (much ike my feelings of gayfl) but having had the fortune of pretty ok hand eye co ordination I've played quite a few ball sports. I took up golf late 30's or so - formally known as a weekend hacker. I hover around 18HC whereas obviously these Pros are scratch and under. Practice practice like any sport, these guys shoot so damn consistant and long amazes me. You don't knoiw how hard it is to hit a static stupid little ball lol......

I never really got the idea of hating something you don't like. Like the Olympics I don't know many of the sports but I just watch it

not sure why bringing in hate MCG, I know I mentioned dislike. Good point re Olympics, I think many of us watch alot of it because many sports are not strong here nor viewed or even played etc.... I think re Olympics many of us get caught up with it because of its variety and you see so many many many top athletes.

Exactly, the AFL media in Melbourne have convince the people from there that AFL is big in Sydney. When I drive around the grounds I see kids/adults playing or practicing football, or Oztag (touch footy) or in summer Cricket as well. The talk in the pubs, offices cafes, football grounds are about the NRL and State of Origin currently, some cricket talk, some O/S football teams plus Matildas & Socceroos. Very little talk of the swans & nothing of GWS. I love my sport but could not name a player in either team since Buddy retired/left.

They are averaging 24 at their home games that's more then a league teams and Nrl teams so it's successful for them

24k ? I assume. Well a pin drop in the big picture - for the amount of $$$$$'s invested over the years any other code would have had to pack up whereas they have the resource to waste and play the spin game to impress. Not hard to beat aleague with all that money AND our game is not those levels of filling large stads, this was the AL/Lowy red herring, early days of NRL was well supported when there was not much else big on for those behind it, since the tech age/live pubs feeds etcetc people up north don't need to be at grounds anymore - the Syd/Bris fabric is polar opposites comparing to Melbon.

AL started 05, GWS 2010 having just looked it up. So WSW had the headstart and numbers, then the decline began and here we are. Actually it confirms my comments re GWS ROI, christ almighty 14yrs to get 24k and rate it - omg nothing like having $$$ to burn and spin doctoring down south. Anyway enough of that shit. Good on the aussie making the French qrtr's. Also young Scot - MacIntyre winning the Canadian Open @ 27yrs. Dad his caddy and pocketing US$1.69M. Tell ya, golf is mega bucks and as hard as making it to top flight in football. Millions play it and have hopes But damn IF you make it - kaching.
