NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!! Playing 3 U23s in the Derby??? That one is on you Esteban, yes the lads where wasteful, got caught ball watching in the midfield countless times, but not being able to at least equalise against 10 men for 30 mins?????  ... lost a real chance to go 8 points clear and secure the title..... thats two sloppy games on the trot, lets home this isnt the start of a slump in form... we've got two cups and the league to win this year :)

How was the crowd? Hard to tell from the telecast 

Pretty poor for a derby at the Village...  Maybe 1500 max... it was raining and bloody cold though ..... no excuses both clubs are top 4 .... Plenty of Bergers fans not many of us .... Years gone by it was a better crowd.

Wait, the Dockerty Cup isn't just a continuation of the Australia Cup Victorian qualifying rounds anymore?

Yeah mate it is, but as VIC now has 5 entries into the round of 32 for the Australia cup that means that for the contiounation of the Dockerty cup (VIC clubs only) we have to have 2 teams play a playoff match to enter the semi final .... of course it helps a certain clubs cause ... but eh, what do you expect?

Well, its gonna be the Wellington Phoenix at Lakeside next month for the Australian Cup....  Happy with that... alway good to test ourselves against a "professional" club to gauge where the squad is at.. Esteban... we are counting on you and the lads to NOT disappoint against Aleague opposition again..... 

They should have just kept the Dockerty Cup as is, and then have the four losing quarter-finalists enter their own little 4-team knockout cup where the winner also goes into the Australia Cup Round of 32 (and the Dockerty Cup semis just continue as is)

That sounds like the fair way to do it but then how exactly would Oakleigh get a guaranteed path to the final? lol

VAMOS HELLAS!!!!!!!!!! The dreaded OV curse is finally lifted.... It was bloody cold but a good couple of thousand brave souls turned up.

So very proud of the game lads, first half was classic shaky Melbourne derby but once big H came on in the second half we found the second (and third) gears and just played beautiful football. Andy Brennan... words cannot describe what an immense game you had son... thank you....

I'm curious, have you seen a noticeable difference in player performances/attitudes, etc when compared to the last few seasons? Does it seem like players are consciously competing for a spot in the Championship? As an outsider looking in, it looks like it would be too much of a coincidence that the two confirmed Vic Championship clubs are also 1 and 2 on the table.

Hmmm objectively NO, not really... Both South and Avondale have been top 2-3 in the VIC NPL for the last 6-7 seasons at least (with a few slumps in form from both) 
This year we have promoted a bunch of the U23s and brought in young players from other clubs, i guess, with the intention of blooding them for next season. 

The feeling around the club though is that this is still the league we are in and aim to win this year, as well as the Dockerty Cup AND the Australia Cup... Next season is next season sort of thing. A few of our veteran players may very well be considering leaving us at the end of the season with the aim of continuing on in NPL as semi pro players to balance work and life with football but the youngsters we have are very hungry to prove their metal and have been performing well this year...  The December transfer period is going to be the litmus test, once all clubs have been announced I would presume a whole bunch of players would be looking to get signed up but the NST clubs....
