+x+xShit, where the hell was I in that thread? Must have missed it :P..... I get your point, fair enough. Look I honestly dont know what the answer is, from a purely match experience perspective I want rules that are as clearly identifiable to the officials as they are to the mug in the terraces 200 yds away. I know this whole "nostalgia bias" thing is what the youngsters are beating our generation over the head with but I long for the days where the ball would ripple the net, you would look to the lino in the agony of expectation, no flag, the ref, arm pointing to the centre and that all took a fraction of fraction of second before you screamed in delight and hugged a random stranger next to you..... I just wanna hug strangers again.... :) Is that another way of saying I wish and long for the ol KISS principle :) Basically :)

+xThe 3rd place combinations have been updated massively with only about 5 possible ones remaining. Much more clarity if that sense.
+x[quote]Combination table all green again. It's normally more reliable than that. People just stuffing around with it. Yeah from what I gather: Group B is eliminated. Group C can guarantee their spot tonight. Still mostly waiting on that Group F match. However Group D or E (only one - not both) can knock themselves out with certain scenarios (eg, Austria losing by 5 goals)

+x+xWhat the fuck did I just farking watch? Farking Italy. Kings of arseholery! Great goal though. First international goal I thought I heard the commentators say. Lot of people online blowing up about the 8 minutes of ET. Did seem like a lot but that's a poor excuse if that's all you've got. Interesting/frustrating watch Italy sit back until Croatia scored and then they came out all guns blazing. Does make me wonder how hard it is to transition from a team that sits back and waits to one that has to chase the game. They're professionals I suppose. They seemed to switch gears without a problem though. Feel for Modric. May be his last tournament. Peter Drury commentating that match. It's like listening to nails on a chalkboard. Screaming wanker that seems to have a grab bag of florid phrases he's just waiting to drag out.

Germany got the Switz last seconds day before, like they say it ain't over till the fat lady sings ! Its when you LUV football from the winning side account :) Muz, Azzuri weren't sitting back through that 2nd half, there was a period they had Cros camped in their half, last gasp defending kept them out. 11 corners to 2, they were all over them in phase's many times. We still lack finishers - it should have been over even after Luka's goal. Yes I feel for the great ol bloke, he's a Legend for them and the game, doesn't get the headlines anywhere near as much as he deserves. I'm so sorry Croatia for they are always in my heart as well, bugga being in the same Grp and hardest imo. Its way to complicated re 3rd play offs, I'll wait till its confirmed.

Yeah there's a lot of very complicated scenarios. Two different groups play tonight, so I think this will confirm a lot of things. I did say Group B is eliminated, but there is one scenario that will see Croatia qualify (and in that instance, a Round of 16 match against Portugal would await): - Slovenia to lose by 3 goals or more (without scoring) or 4 goals or more (With scoring) - or something like that
- 3-0 loss sees Croatia ahead.
- 4-1 will see tiebreakers on disciplinary record (then by qualifiers if necessary)
- 5-2 will see Slovenia ahead.
- Serbia to lose
- Czech Republic to lose
- Georgia to lose
How I think the knockouts will be from this stage? - Spain v Slovakia
- Germany v Denmark
- Portugal v Hungary
- France v Romania
- Belgium v Austria
- Netherlands v Turkey
- England v Czechia
- Switzerland v Italy

Denmark losing heavily as well ? Actually yes, that's another spanner in the works. Replace Denmark with Slovenia. They don't need both to lose heavily, but either do. If Denmark win, they NEED Slovenia to lose heavily. If Denmark lose, they NEED Denmark to lose heavily (more than 2 goals) Depends which team ultimately ends up in third and how I guess... Essentially for Croatia, draws = bad My head is going to explode...

Unfortunately Croatia's Achilles heel has cost them, their defence has been a problem all tournament especially conceding late goals against Albania as well so it came back to bite them in the end.
Disappointing ending for them, I feel for Luka Modric its a sad way to bow out of international football if this is last time he plays in an international tournament for he's country absolute gem of a player still at 38.
For Italy a get out of jail moment if they go far in this tournament, they will miss Riccardo Calafiori as he's been immense for them and was key in getting the late equaliser.
Switzerland vs Italy will be interesting nevertheless.

God England are bad. Shows the struggle against a low block also. Interesting Slovenia are better than most EPL teams who submit to the big ones. They play less together but these lower tier teams haven't been a walk over with their well linked defensive systems.

What a low scoring grp - can’t figure out why the 3Lions are pretty dour good on Slovenia and making it through. Danes through after a fighting Serbia who looked to score late in the game.

Feel if England play Netherlands then it's a whole different ball game. A lot more space afforded and it's a knock out game. Typical for teams to scrape through the group but now it really matters.
Should expect a lot more desperate football now from the likes of England and France. Denmark plotting their Germany clash now.

Thanks mate I'll listen to it later on but scrolling the comments says alot from many of us armchair critics. Ange for 3Lions gaffa luv it. Southgate is dour football, watching others like Slovenia, Serbs, Romania Czech etc they don't have the so called "talent" what is at Southgates disposal and their football looks dynamic at times, I give kudos to those gaffas. Even Bellingham is struggling to be the outlier he normally can be through games. 1 win from 3, 2 draws and just 2 GF, I mentioned earlier they mirror Belguim to a degree re expectations due to the many known good Club players, some greater. Anyway like johnsz mentions making it to R16 is all that matters, maybe they will prove all wrong next must win game, maybe.

Overnight officially knocks Croatia out, and confirms Groups C and D in (Netherlands and Slovenia) Group E: - If both games end in a result, the team that loses by the least will finish 3rd. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll qualify though. The breakdown of goal difference for each team (Should they finish third - that's the premise, in the below scenarios, that they are the team that finishes third in the group):
- Ukraine is 1 goal up. Specifically a 1-0 loss will see Ukraine tied with Hungary. If they lose by one goal, but also score (eg, 2-1), they will progress to the Round of 16.
- Slovakia is 3 goals up. Specifcally a 3-0 loss will see Slovakia tied with Hungary.
- Belgium is 4 goals up. Specifically a 4-0 loss will see Slovakia tied with Hungary.
- Romania is 4 goals up, but have already scored more goals than Hungary, so any loss by 4 goals or less will see Romania progress to the round of 16
- If both games end in a draw, Slovakia will finish 3rd, and qualify for the Round of 16, knocking out... someone (will have to wait until Group F is finished)
- If Slovakia v Romania ends in a result, with Belgium v Ukraine a draw, Belgium will finish 2nd, and Ukraine 3rd (both qualifying for knockouts), with the loser of Slovakia v Romania being eliminated.
- If Slovakia v Romania ends in a draw, with Belgium v Ukraine ending in a result, Romania will finish 2nd, and Slovakia 3rd, with the loser of Belgium v Ukraine being eliminated.
GROUP F - note that Portugal is guaranteed top of the table - Turkey defeats Czechia AND Portugal defeats Georgia - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with both Georgia and Turkey eliminated.
- Turkey defeats Czechia AND Portugal draws Georgia - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with both Georgia and Turkey eliminated.
- Turkey defeats Czechia AND Georgia defeats Portugal - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with Georgia qualifying in 3rd, most likely eliminating Hungary (but this depends on Group E results as well).
- Czechia defeats Turkey AND Portugal defeats Georgia - Czechia qualifies 2nd, with Turkey advancing in 3rd, provided they do not lose by more than 2 goals (a 2-0 loss will see Turkey tied with Hungary on goals, etc).
- Czechia defeats Turkey AND Georgia defeats Portugal - Czechia and Georgia will qualify 2nd and 3rd, the order of which depending on goal difference (Czechia one goal ahead of Georgia, equal goals scored). Turkey will be eliminated.
- Czechia defeats Turkey AND Portugal draws Georgia - Czechia qualifies 2nd, with Turkey advancing in 3rd, provided they do not lose by more than 2 goals (a 2-0 loss will see Turkey tied with Hungary on goals, etc).
- Turkey draws Czechia AND Portugal defeats Georgia - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with both Georgia and Turkey eliminated.
- Turkey draws Czechia AND Georgia defeats Portugal - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with Georgia in qualifying in 3rd.
- Turkey draws Czechia AND Portugal draws Georgia - Turkey qualifies 2nd, with both Georgia and Turkey eliminated
In situations where both Georgia and Turkey are eliminated, Slovakia (or whichever Group E country finishes 3rd) AND Hungary will both qualify for the Round of16.
Knockout brackets left are:
Spain v 3rd E/F Germany v Denmark Portugal v Hungary/Slovenia France v 2nd E Winner E v Slovenia/Netherlands Austria v 2nd F England v Netherlands/3rd E Switzerland v Italy

I thought being an Socceroos fan was frustrating but it could be worse…with England! For all the individual talent they have on display they play some of the most uninspiring football I’ve seen so far, it must be so frustrating to watch if your an England fan. We will see how good they can be in the knockout stages but based on what I’ve seen I can’t see them beating the better teams if they want to win this tournament unless they significantly improve.
Talk about impressing, well done to Austria talk about optimising their talent Ralf Rangnick has done a great job to get them out of a tough group, they could be a smokey in the knockout stages depending on who they play.
How did they decide who went though between Denmark and Slovenia? Both had the same results with all 3 draws!

You made a good point a name I was going to mention earlier but forgot. Rangnick, absolutely impressive whereas he a total failure at United BUT he inherited a mess and they expect miracles within a season. I couldn't believe Austria result against a top shelf Netherlands but there you go, he has them playing as unit and delivering. Good on them. As for the English, maybe our mate above your post is onto something :)

How did they decide who went though between Denmark and Slovenia? Both had the same results with all 3 draws! Yep, Denmark was ranked higher due to one less yellow card. Interestingly, the disciplinary record includes yellow/red cards issued to team officials (and Slovenia did have a yellow card issued to their technical director in the first match against Denmark). If that yellow card didn't exist, Denmark would still have progressed in 2nd place, as instead of drawing lots, UEFA has now listed 'overall ranking during Qualifying' as the final tiebreaker. Nonetheless, Slovenia is guaranteed progression due to finishing above of both Hungary and Croatia.

Its been the case for a lonnnnng time Barca hasn't it.. My fellow english team mates have been its ocming home hurt for yonks, we give them heaps haha.....but they feel the same. Its mind boggling nonetheless. I lol of all the back and forth how talented this new crop has been for sometime - there was one expert bloke here going on how good Southgate has been as well. Sure he has guided them to play as a team better BUT IMO many of them are no better than the previous gen game wise ala Scholes/Gerrard/Lampard etcetc..... They and those teams of the past had their good performances no diff to todays and come up short. Bellingham is the stand out but they had that outlier before like a Gascoigne for eg.....game breaker/s. Bellingham has been MIA to a degree the last 2 games, Southgates game/plans is stifling their stars imo ???, young Palmer gets on and they went forward way better in moments. His selections are his issues - he's afraid, I also don't see him being that upbeat positive type, imagime a Klopp type looking over this group.

Its just my oppinion but it also seems like Southgate has "lost the dressing room" mate.... Footballs not "going home" this year or anytime soon I reackon.
