Someone mentioned previously that it benefits the stronger nations, i disagree. I reckon the minnows get their 50/50  chance half an hour earlier and so just have to cling on for the final 10-15 mins of regulation time and all bets are off.

It happens in every single sport.... Tennis players used to scuff the clay mark pre hawkeye and would blatantly lie, cricketers appeal every single ball "Howzaaaaaat" even when they know its not even close.  golfers nudge the ball with their foot if nobody is watching. Every bit of sporting equipment from baseball bats, to NFL footballs, to cricket bats to you name it has been tampered with or altered to gain an advantage... The whole sporting world will use whatever competitive advantage to get one over the officials, by hook or by crook. The South Americans are just better at it than everyone else :)
