Football Australia confirmed in January that it was in a Request for Proposal phase to fill those final spots and ESPN understands that process will wrap-up in July with news to come after the Olympics

NST on verge of collapse/placed on back burner, will be confirmed soon, per Peter Filopolous.

That would probably suit Flop down to the ground.... sad. I wonder what old Frank Brunoskevic has to say about things?

i got some dirt and a massive scoop i am now hearing developing news tonight emerging out of Melbourne that i've literally just been off talking to Alex Sivkarovski (NPL Victoria match commentator) that he's hearing Caroline Springs George Cross and one of the Sydney teams will be next two teams into NSD he revealed.

Thats awesome Brenton, thanks for sharing mate.... I have also heard that the Georgies are a lock and Rockdale in NSW also firm favourites over Sutherland.... The two "sketchy" NSW clubs are APIA and Syd Utd apparently but they "promise" to be ready....

BTW I like Alex's commentary, if you are mates can you ask if he (and other NPL VIC commentators) will be involved in the broadcast next year... would be great to give them a go.

Dan Birrell from Football Victoria had just recently appeared on Suited & Booted TV podcast mentions National Second Division at 1:21:01 into podcast also about promotion and relegation right across the state heading into latter half of the season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJIs5VwC-rg

Yeah this was a cool pod, open and insightful.

It would be fantastic if we could get a couple of teams outside of NSW and Victoria at the start but if not then that's ok as something is better than nothing.

I'm an optimist about the NSD and I think once it takes off there will be more drive for clubs to develop to be able to join.

I agree with you on this. I think the first 2-3 seasons are going to be really sketchy and some clubs may even drop out but it just has to plough through the teething issues and get started.... If it is even a modest success there will be many clubs itching to join/ gain promotion to this....

Great watch, thanks for posting... Dan speaks well and its promising to see FV so accommodating to the ambitions of the clubs within our state. The main point of approval from me is the fact that FV allowed for two scenarios next year

#1 if the NST goes ahead and NPL "loses" South, Preston and Avondale - how to balance Pro/rel and bring in U23 squads for these teams in VPL2.... and
#2 if it doesn't go ahead, its business as normal.

message to clubs at the bottom of the table in VIC leagues is, dont assume you are safe because we may only relegate one club ...

The line about "no accountability" in leagues with no relegation is a very poignant one.

Honestly Apia have gone really quiet and not sure what’s going on at the club. Again I’m just praying for good news and a big announcement soon so they can start promoting the new comp.

West Adelaide won't figure in the NST for some time you would think, but at least some good news. It appears the fiasco surrounding Kilburn has been resolved and the development finally completed (very late and over budget). Just saw this coming accross my FB feed.

https://www.facebook.com/WestAdelaide/videos/1446677826050794

Nice football specific, club controlled asset.

Best of luck to them. Maybe they return to the national stage one day.

It's weird because we keep hearing "Tassie bid" but not a specific team - makes me worried there's going to be some sort of joint team

Football Tasmania is not behind the bid. Pignata is pushing for a Tasmania ALM bid for 2026-2027 so a state wide NST proposal is unlikely. That really puts it back to the individual club. Can South Hobart put together a viable proposal?

Thanks for posting  mate... About bloody time West Adelaide got their ground sorted out... I hear they are making some moves with board, staff and playing roster to make a tilt at promotion next year... Love to see the ambition. Bravo to our brothers out West.

The new ground may be late and WAAAY over budget but it looks better than ironbarks... hahahahahahahah

  • FA turned them down initially for insufficient funding
  • So needed to become a "Tasmanian team' to get political and financial support
  • Within Tasmania though, differing opinions as to whether to go NST or aim for A-league is dividing political support
  • Reckons sponsors will be there if they get State Government come to the party

Probably none. This was just a cash grab pure and simple. If there are any good players they will be exposed in the pyramid when we all unite.

Apparently all the club presidents met up with the fa in Sydney yesterday, all very hush hush though. Smart money would suggest its got no hope of being ready to start in March.

Would be all worth if it got pushed back to October and start as what it should be and thats a summer league. Gut feel is we will get the dreaded "2026" announcement shortly. Its comical that clubs have no idea what the pro/rel situation is.

I agree competitions should be aligned, but it should be the AL that moves, not the others.
IMO winter is for football full stop. Doesn't matter what level.

Hasn't it been ready for a while? I thought it was ready to go, just a club or two were still deciding on entering.
What do you mean it's comical no one knows about pro/rel? I also thought that was pretty clear there isn't pro/rel until the comp is mature.
I wouldn't worry about it kicking off in March instead of October, it won't matter until pro/rel comes along.
