+x+xWell both played safe chances not taken. A perfect pen take by the French. It's a shame to go out but one of our better tournaments, football wise. The only thing that I wasn't happy with were the lack of chances we created/ the lack of goals we scored. We had so much talent on the bench and I don't think Martinez used it to our full advantage. I felt we shouldn't have started Ronaldo in the Turkiye game and instead tested someone else like Ramos or Jota. It would have meant that if Ronaldo wasn't adding anything to the team, such as the games against Switzerland and France, we could have introduced a player that would have given something else. Again, the future looks bright. I might actually get to see Portugal win a World Cup in my life time if we keep developing as many talented players as we currently have. You summed it up pretty well….. Especially CR, Jota more so than Ramos could have been a very different outlook the way he plays up front. Mobile a good pocher and finds the unexpected goal. Martinez had similar failings with Belgium ironically. Barca it’s amazing the kind of running and counter play the France we have seen in recent times yet this tournament not the same. Is it coach’s have figured them out better than in the past - the big M has been their major get out of jail card many times, especially on counters. Yes contrasting styles next game will be another fascinating one to watch.

Meanwhile, that handball shout that germany had against spain
If that happens in asia its 3 red cards, 2 penalties plus 100 hours community service
Different reffing in europe?

I can see why it wasn't given. You see such ones given too. The more I see it and pretend it's another game it gets given as a penalty. I tend to think just barely that the ref has made the 'best' possible call.

He's a Bundesliga ref and is competent. He says the instructions were followed but their jobs are harder.

No back 3 for England despite reports. Konsa for Guehi and that's it. Sigh. It's going to be dull from their side but maybe a Swiss attack will see things open up more.

Higher press from england than previous games
Fodan and bellingham able to turn with the first touch with wide players can half turn, bellingham and saka with some take ons too
All together engkand look less constipated

As a purist I want Spain vs Netherlands
What we might get is France vs England, we might get something in between but two intriguing with contrasting styles nevertheless.

Spain v France. The Spanish playing the best attacking football while France not able to score from open play.I tip Spain to go through to the final. England v Netherlands .Pragmatic and solid England have progressed despite all the criticism. The Dutch have shown patches of brilliance but prone to mistakes.England to be in the final and to bring it home for the first time( 1966 was the WC not the Euros).

The 2 best attacks of late shown by the English. Sakas good typical move back inside for his left and goal but their total sound attack was their pens ! Pretty sad for a team with all that talent and yes it has got them there. With Barca a Spain VVD finale would be refreshing but I doubt it will occur sadly.

Kane was absolutely shocking yesterday. If the system isn't to feed him with crosses get he himself isn't in the right area, then Toney or Watkins need to start. If things go awry Kane can then come off to try and save the day.
The way England ended up having Eze in some ad hoc left back role and Bellingham had to cover the right back side until the subs came on served them well in playing higher up, but led to more panicked disorganised play. There were times where it was an unfit Shaw and Eze against 3 Swiss attackers.
A new ball game against The Netherlands awaits.

Somehow England have arsed it into a semi. I hope the Dutch flog them 5 blot but I worry the poms will jag another shitty win and make the final. Spain Netherlands final would be the most deserving based in the matches they've played so far. France have been dire. England not much better.

Bit of a whinge about Optus here. When you click on full match replay for the euros you can immediately tell that the match is going to extra time and penalties by what end time is on the screen. Just have 4.00hrs at the end and if you have to show a blank screen that's better than knowing that the game goes over time.

Their game is getting over the finish line and not 1 convincing win. Uncanny England stats are Grp stage 2 GF 1 GA R16 on 2 GF 1 GA Whereas Netherlands is Grp stage 4 GF 4 GA R16 on 3 GF 2 GA The Oranje know what to expect regardless of the English form many knowing the players they face, will just come down to the chances if/when and who takes em. Is this the game Kane gets better service and converts 2 for eg ? Fascinating contest - 3Lions have the advantage of a better bench imo, may come down to the 65min on. So far the Probability %'s are : 30% Oranje 33% ET 37% England

A German referee once criticised over his match-fixing past by Jude Bellingham will officiate England's European Championship semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday. Felix Zwayer, 43, will lead an all-German refereeing team. In 2021, when Bellingham played for Borussia Dortmund, the England midfielder was fined 40,000 euros (£34,000) for referencing the official's previous ban for match fixing. Zwayer was given a six-month ban in 2005 after he was investigated for taking a £250 bribe from official Robert Hoyzer. Hoyzer was subsequently given a ban for life from football.
Bellingham's comments came after Dortmund lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich. During the game, the referee did not give Dortmund a penalty but did award a spot-kick to their opponents. Bellingham, who was 18 at the time, told streaming service Viaplay: "You give a referee that has match fixed before the biggest game in Germany. What do you expect?"

How does a referee who has been found guilty of accepting a bribe get to referee at the professional level, let alone take charge of a Euro semi-final?
