The problem for football is that they have all these clubs but they are limited for the number of teams by the the number of fields available at a grass roots level. We have a number of ovals set aside for AFL (cricket grounds). Some are lucky to be used for 2 hours each weekend. if they were used for football they would be used 7am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, longer for the floodlit ones like the other football fields..

Good for a laugh. Fair enough. I wonder a world where the two sports were on better terms. It's like that since I was at school tho you had the footy and the football group and for some reason there was attitude to it. I follow both so never really understood the hostility that's because you live in Melbourne.
You'll find the Sydney and Brisbane dwellers will be silent on NRL vs football. Yeah the "sokkah journoes" up there only like one type of footy :P

I've been out and about these last couple of weeks, with both snr & jnr presentations for my local club, even a party for old blokes like me, golf, work, Trivia nights in clubs & Coffee shops & I've heard very little discussion on the great Sydney Derby in the AFL finals, till this day I don't know who won. Would you like to be told robbos? Tell you the truth not really.
AFL in Sydney is a bit like NRL in Melbourne.
Although the swans are the highest attended team in NSW. If it helps Melbourne Storm are the highest attended team at AAMI park..... hahahahahah LOL, I'd say the bulk of swanette crowd are typical east sydney s nobs/many ex pats who prob have new season Swan and SFC kits to mix and match :) oh o look out from you know who.
I take it you are a Westie, LFC , if not , you sound very Boganish. Cheers, You know who. LFC comes from the upper North Shore, very upper, no Boganish about him.
It's just AFL, even in the Northern beaches it just doesn't exist.
There seem to be at least 12 AFL clubs in Northern Sydney area alone.
https://aflsj.com.au/club-information/sydney-north/
vs 6 x NRL clubs in the whole of Melbourne
https://www.nrlvic.com/clubs
And when I get home, I can confirm how many football clubs in both areas.... Easy to say now that it would dwarf both No mate, there are only 3 football clubs in Sydney, the rest are just SOKKAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P It's only America & Melbourne is it not called Football.
The AFL have spent a lot of money in Sydney, so yes AFL has some interest, but when you are talking about the biggest sporting competition in Australia, the interest is fairly minimal.
But you have been repeatedly saying the AFL has NO interest in Sydney???? It will never be as big as NRL up there (at least not for decades) but that isnt the argument mate....
BTW soccer is and always will be soccer and the national team is and always will be the Socceroos... getting all snooty about what the sport is called is a marketing/branding exercise..... I hope not, I don't follow Rugby League much these days, but I hope AFL never takes over, it's such a shit game.
Shit game or otherwsie, they have a massive warchest of funds and they are pushing the whole "Australianess" of it .. who knows if it will take over up there...? The mens premier league in Sydney has a good few teams.
https://sydneyafl.com.au/premier-division/
AFL NSW/ACT covers four predominant sub-regions, ACT, South Coast/Illawarra, Sydney Harbour, Greater Western Sydney and Northern NSW, encompassing 14 leagues, and 260 clubs.

- Riverina

- 21 clubs in the ACT not in the aforementioned 'member federation' Premier League divisions (more on that below)
- 16 leagues across Metropolitan Sydney alone (not counting multiple divisions)
- 7 leagues across the first 7 regions listed above
- 13 leagues across the last 3 regions above
- Featuring a total of (including A-League and A-League Women franchised clubs) - 739 clubs*
- Northern NSW - 181
- Metropolitan NSW (Sydney, Wollongong, Gosford) - 400
- Regional NSW - 120
- ACT - 38
* This figure was manually counted from my Google Earth database of Australian football clubs, so may be prone to a small miscount, and also does not include schools that participate in junior only competitions and leagues under their school name.
I am in no way saying Aussie rules is anywhere near as big as football. Only pointing out to Robbos and the north shore bogan , that Aussie rules is bigger in NSW than they think it is. No more, no less.
Fair point - but just wanted to provide the stats for comparison.

I'm in LFC, we could discuss how Liverpool are going under Slot, looks good so far, Derby's improvement, SFC & your local NPL side & of course, the Swans (yep just found out they still going) glorious run in the 2024 finals series, with great wins scoring over a trillion pts per game. Imagine having to look at the scoreboard to find out who's winning a match you have been watching from the start.

Before we got sidetracked.
AFL's plan for world domination.
AFL is the biggest sporting competition in Australia & dominates the national news, TV & yet I reckon most Sydney would be able to name 5 footballers, even 5 women footballers than they could 5 AFL player, such is their inability to even dominate Australia's premier city let along world domination.
I am in no way saying Aussie rules is anywhere near as big as football. Only pointing out to Robbos and the north shore bogan , that Aussie rules is bigger in NSW than they think it is. No more, no less.
Yes you are right Sutho, it is bigger than I have made out, but no way as big as the Melb AFL media wants to make it out to be. It's the footy finals, I'm seeing flags on cars & draped on houses, 'go Manly', (Manly clap, clap, clap) never saw anything for the big finals Derby last week & I presume 1 team won & are still in the finals, have seen nothing since for the AFL on the northern suburbs or beaches. I don't know too many diehard AFL fans in my crowd & those that are, have emigrated from the southern or western states. Oh there is no such thing as a North Shore bogan (they all have lots of money & are educated in Knox, Barker or Shore, even Grammer), if you want to insult LFC, call him a Scouser, they are the biggest bogans ever.

Yeah the "sokkah journoes" up there only like one type of footy :P https://x.com/VinceRugari/status/1832284771898331577?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet I've been out and about these last couple of weeks, with both snr & jnr presentations for my local club, even a party for old blokes like me, golf, work, Trivia nights in clubs & Coffee shops & I've heard very little discussion on the great Sydney Derby in the AFL finals, till this day I don't know who won. Would you like to be told robbos? Tell you the truth not really. AFL in Sydney is a bit like NRL in Melbourne. Although the swans are the highest attended team in NSW. I take it you are a Westie, LFC , if not , you sound very Boganish. Cheers, You know who. LFC comes from the upper North Shore, very upper, no Boganish about him. I'm not arguing with you about this, as I have said to many AFL fans, you call it what you call it. I call it football don't tell me what to call it. I call it soccer or football depending on the context of the conversation... has never been a problem... Why some people get so worked up over it is a mystery to me. With you it's always Sth Melb v new football. That is your issue not mine. You seem to be the only one worked up. Like I said in Melb & America it's soccer, in Sydney we can call it what we want. I call it football, I followed the game for 50 years in this country & never was comfortable with soccer, especially after living in England for a long periods. I don't tell you what to call it, don't tell me. :P
Im NOT call it what you want mate.... thats my point....

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI find it funny how we're talking afl and not the Australia cup, socceroos etc Because its' a thread about AFL world domination? Good for a laugh. Fair enough. I wonder a world where the two sports were on better terms. It's like that since I was at school tho you had the footy and the football group and for some reason there was attitude to it. I follow both so never really understood the hostility that's because you live in Melbourne. You'll find the Sydney and Brisbane dwellers will be silent on NRL vs football. There seem to be at least 12 AFL clubs in Northern Sydney area alone. https://aflsj.com.au/club-information/sydney-north/vs 6 x NRL clubs in the whole of Melbourne https://www.nrlvic.com/clubs And when I get home, I can confirm how many football clubs in both areas.... I'm not arguing with you about this, as I have said to many AFL fans, you call it what you call it. I call it football don't tell me what to call it. Every Autumn when the local clubs are starting registration in Sydney, you see play Football everywhere, then occasionally you say play Rugby league & even less occasionally, you see Play AFL. I know AFL is the competition, but in Sydney (small market), it's marketed as AFL. That is why I said in Melb & America. Its your fanbase that insists on the "new football old soccer" divide Robbo... I call it soccer or football depending on the context of the conversation... has never been a problem... Why some people get so worked up over it is a mystery to me.
