+xI think we played well, all things considered. Agreed. If we had Sawyer would have had 2 by half time.

Another season over ... back into soccer hibernation (Sitting on the couch watching Euro leagues) until next season rolls along, wherever we may be playing.
Absolutely fantastic first half from the boy, we faded a little in the late second half but considering no Harry, no Jake Marshal and no Archibald (our spine essentially) to only lose by a relatively soft penalty is no great shame (yes OK it WAS a penalty but still we'eve all seen those waved away, especially with 5 mins to go in a semi final) .
A huge thank you to Esteban and the team, everyone put in 110% last night, thanks for the season lads, thanks for fighting for the shirt, us and each other....
We lick our wounds, take a few months off and go again next year.
FORZA HELLAS.

I'm so bummed for South. Would have been a ripping final if you'd made it. Might have actually meant something.

FA aren't stupid enough to let all that MV ticket money go to waste.

How do we think the new player registration rules will impact the squad heading into the new season?

+xHow do we think the new player registration rules will impact the squad heading into the new season? It shouldnt make much of a difference to our squad now that i think about it... especially since I have been reassured by the terrace experts at Lakeside that Lopez is PR. Halfpenny - 22 Inglese 21 Mac Hilson 19 Peios 21 Tsitsiniaris 22 Marinkovic 19 Spiteri 20 Harding 23 I think Harding and Pop are U23 too. Plus a couple of the U23s are knocking on the door....

Thank god. I wonder how the rest of nplvic will deal with this, I imagine a few of the better middling players will spread out over the league bit? Hopefully this doesn't hamper any cup runs from npl teams.

hahahaah I guess even plastics can dream eh? Considering their away kit this year looks like the bastard lovechild of a Palestinian Kiffeh and the Croatia national strip perhaps merging with another club in Brisbane might be a better fit for them? hahahahahahah

Esteban re-signs. Thanks to the football gods for that... VAMOS TATO, you mad man..... 70 wins from 93 matches over the past 3 seasons, you are a machine. https://x.com/smfc/status/1842808352042066208?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5EtweetContracts are starting to be signed, Captain Marco first off the rank for 2 years...... bravo legend. https://x.com/smfc/status/1842395081463980454?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

The thing I always think about is, if south did sack Esteban who would be a equal or better replacement? Personally think he is very limited tactically, plays with no midfield, he literally does not believe in creative ball players. Set pieces/long throws are his thing but he wont have a Sawyer/Riak next season to run themselves into the ground and lead the line. Meanwhile what do new rules mean for Javi Lopez? You can cut those 70 wins or whatever it is in half without him. Would have liked a reset and the club going back to its Roots of playing free flowing attacking football. A South team that actually wants to control games and be on the ball. Even if it means taking a step back to go forward. As it stands the Oakleighs and the Avondales of the world dont fear Estebans South.

I get what ur saying about not believing in creative ball players, but I think it's more of a caution based approach rather than not believing in that type of player. Javi is fine as he is an Australian citazen (what I've been told on the forum). We have to think about it like this, if we get rid of Esteban who would be a good replacement? The only coaches I can think of (Johnny A and C.T.) that are on a similar level wouldn't join south.

Fact is the Oakleighs and Avondales of this world are going to find next seasons squad rules difficult to just "throw money" at.... I am much more pleased with us finally blooding youth and looking to U23s and below for the playing group... "big" NPL clubs rise and fall, this time its Oakleigh and Avondale, in the past it was Bergers, Bentleigh, Thunder, Paco even.... we are South Melbourne Hellas.... the beating heart of Victorian football... let the others chase state league titles weve already got 10 of them :)
