+x+xI can see an NRL side in PNG being a success. Not hard to imagine them being tough to beat at home. It can be successful if they play half their games in PNG and half in Cairns or something..... Would many players want to travel that far? I suppose for visiting teams if you are doing a trip to Townsville, then going to Port Moresby wouldnt be too bad asca once off. But for the PNG team to have to travel to Sydney, Canberra, Melb, Newie and NZ it can take it out of them. Would be expensive to fly to all these destinations wirh a team of 30 or 35 personnel each 2nd week.... Which brings me to ask this question..... Does the NRL grant extra travel funding to isolated teams such as Melb, Warriors, Raiders, Cows? Or is that just part of the business case? (Have to find their travels themselves) I recall Storm had a deal with Tiger airways afew years back. Titans had Jetstar.

The federal government will chip in some money, partially because we don't want PNG entering into a alliance with China. Their feeder team in the QLD cup must have a home ground, They will also increase TV audiences and bring in more TV rights money. Some clubs play away in PNG, Townsville, Melbourne, Canberra and NZ in a compressed time period and others don't it is a big advantage. An alternative format is 20 teams 19 rounds home/away in alternate seasons. Then split the comp into 2 groups of 10 and play say another 5-7 rounds based on that. That is a good fit with a mid-season break. Actually a good split here is the top 5 play the bottom 5 in each group. A side trying to push into the 8 has to beat some of the top sides to make it. Any pretenders in the top 5 are probably sorted out. Some of these top 10 shoot-outs and bottom-10 shoot-outs can be via a magic round concept or held in regional areas. The right system reduces some of the load on players.

PNG is likely to be a success because the money put in by our government and the US. We just need Perth and another NZ team and we have a very enjoyable a fair competition.

All it takes is us to play Melb in Bunderburg for 3 or 4 years and that means we wont get to see a game for that whole time. I think if the league went to this format, teams will have to stop taking a game to regional towns, or at the very least, make sure they didnt take the same game away every 2 years.....

Been an advocate for origin, 7s tourney, internationals mid season break for many years... There's ample content to break for the TV with the teams we have now .. Big question for mine is, will the NRLol go to 10 team finals???... Great to see the AUS and US Govts may provide additional funding for the love of rugby league and the people of PNG... Top blokes, with their heart in the right place... Now if we can only get a Darwin Harbour Team up and running... For the love of league of course...

That fixes the problem. Simply play different teams each year in country towns. One a year. Fair point and easy fix.
