Sorry, your championships would of counted if the a-league was never introduced, however, right now your team is at... no finals appearances? right.

At a bare minimum, the standard of the top 8 NSL sides was as good as the standard of the HAL... the 2003 Olympic team had Clint Bolton (HAL star), Jade North (now a Socceroo) and Joel Porter (set to be one of the 'big names' for GC Utd). And of course we know how many stars were in the Paramatta Power team 03-04. Saying those Championships don't count for Glory is kind of pathetic, and reflects the simple-mindendness of some 'new' fans of domestic football. It's like saying Liverpool are an unsuccessful English club because they've never won the EPL.

But too many people in these parts think football didn't exist before 2005 for me not to feel the need to defend Glory's NSL achievements at every given opportunity! You've still got 2 seasons to overtake us... good luck with that. Personally I think 08/09 is going to be a very, very good one for Glory... and I haven't felt like that since 03/04. Of course my standard have dropped sufficiently over those 5 years that now making the finals would make it a very, very good season. But as long as GCU keeps MV from overtaking PG I'll be happy!

Some people show their age pretty quickly on the internet.
100% agree bovs- still no reason why Glory can't call ourselves one of the best teams in the nation- fuck, if it wasn't for the Glory of the NSL, the A-League clubs would have no idea on how to run (when the FFA lets them run their own stuff, that is :P)

Today's Perth Glory News: Quote: Foley warns Oz will be no holiday Defender Kevin Foley admits his excitement at Wolves’ pre-season trip to Australia is being tempered by the gruelling fitness regime that awaits them Down Under.
Wolves depart for a 14-day trip Down Under on July 4, returning on the 17th.
Based on Perth, they will play two games, against ‘A’ League side Perth Glory on July 10 and a Western Australia state select side five days later, as they start preparations in earnest for what will hopefully be a Premier League campaign.
Foley said: “It’s a nice one to look forward to, but then you’ve got (fitness coach) Tony Daley with his whistle and his stopwatch!
“I think we’ll need to take our sick bags.”
Talking of sick bags, Wolves also face a gruelling 24-hour flight – and Foley revealed several players aren’t too keen on flying.
The 24-year-old said: “I know Karl Henry doesn’t like flying. It’s funny, looking around the plane when you’re about to take off, you can see a few of the lads starting to pray and you don’t want to say too much to them!
“It’s quite cruel, but I’m sure it will be all right.”
http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/04/10/foley-warns-oz-will-be-no-holiday/Hopefully they'll still be recovering from plane sickness when the Glory play them. Quote:Sterjovski keen to make his case for Rams before season is over Friday 10 April 2009 Mile Sterjovski is hoping for a chance to secure his Derby County future between now and the end of the season.
Sterjovski has been linked with a move back to his native Australia this summer but says he would like to stay at Derby.
A lot could depend on whether he figures in manager Nigel Clough’s long-term plans – something which is likely to become clear by the end of the current campaign.
Sterjovski, who joined the Rams in January 2008 from Turkish club Genclerbirligi OFTAS, was handed only his fourth League start of the season in Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat at Cardiff City.
He has featured more since Clough replaced Paul Jewell at the helm, albeit often from the bench.
“I’m always hungry to play,” said Sterjovski. “It’s been a while since I’ve played regular football, which is what I strive for. Hopefully, that continues.”
With Australia having all but booked their place in next year’s World Cup finals, Sterjovski is aiming to make the squad for South Africa.
A-League side Perth Glory have stated their interest in signing the 29-year-old but national coach Pim Verbeek is keen for his players to be plying their trade at a higher standard in Europe.
“I’m happy here and my family is happy here,” said Sterjovski, who is married with two young children.
"At the end of the season, we will assess the situation and see what is best for myself and the club.
"I’ve got another year left on my contract and we’ll see where I stand and what I’m feeling.
“If I feel I need to move, we’ll talk about it but at the moment I’m very happy.”
Asked about a possible move back to Australia, he said: "It’s only rumours at the moment. People see that I’m not playing too much at Derby but nothing has come about yet.
"It looks like they are targeting players like me and there are quite a few in a similar position.
"Because I haven’t been playing too much at Derby, obviously I am one of the top on the list.
“But like I said, I’m happy at Derby, my family is settled here and I’m really enjoying life here. The only thing missing is game time and, hopefully, that changes.”
Sterjovski’s former clubs include Australian sides Parramatta Power, Sydney United, Illawarra Lions and Wollongong Wolves. He has also played for Lille in France and Swiss outfit FC Basel.
However, the midfielder-forward is not looking to move on again just yet and is focused on Derby’s bid to secure their Championship safety, starting with tomorrow’s visit to Sheffield Wednesday.
“I’ve still got a job to do for Derby,” he said. "We need a few more points to be safe from relegation but I’m confident we can do it.
"We’re playing some good football and we’ve just got to put those chances away.
“That’s what was missing against Cardiff and, hopefully, we can turn that around in the next game.”
http://therams.co.uk/stories/sterjovski-keen-to-make-his-case-for-rams-before-season-is-overIt'll be interesting to see how much game time he gets in these last few games. I certainly would prefer to play first team than sit on the pine or not even make the squad.

Hmmmm he doesn't sound like he wants to head home just yet. and i'm glad the Wolves game is getting a bit of publicity over there. it wont be long now before they're a confirmed EPL team and then let the hype begin.

Well that article is from the Rams website so you can't be sure. When Joel Portersigned for Gold Coast Hartpool were treating it as a rumour to their fans, when in fact over here it was a confirmed signing.

Quote:Derby County’s Mile Sterjovski Is Top Target For A-League Clubs Will the former Basel man become the second high-profile Socceroo to return home next season?
Derby Country and Australia midfielder Mile Sterjovski claims he is at the ‘top of the list’ for A-League clubs as they recruit ahead of next season.
The veteran Socceroo insists however that he is happy at the Championship club despite a lack of first-team football.
With Perth Glory managed David Mitchell previously having claimed he had been “negotiating” Sterjovski’s potential move back to Australia and following the recent decision of fellow international Jason Culina to leave Europe and return to the A-League next season, reports of the Derby man’s homecoming have been given further potency.
“It’s only rumours at the moment,” Sterjovski told Derby’s Evening Telegraph. “People see that I’m not playing too much at Derby but nothing has come about yet.
"It looks like they [A-League clubs] are targeting players like me and there are quite a few in a similar position.
"Because I haven’t been playing too much at Derby, obviously I am one of the top on the list.”
Sterjovski has made 14 appearances for the Rams this season but has struggled to establish himself in the Derby first-team.
Under new manager Nigel Clough, the Socceroo has started to find more regular game-time, recently returning to the starting line-up after a three match absence for the 4-1 loss away against Cardiff.
The right midfielder is a constant in Australia's squad though has been used sparingly by national team manager Pim Verbeek.
With competition for a right-sided berth in the form of Hull City’s Richard Garcia and Serie A man Marco Bresciano, the need for Sterjovski to find first-team football in order to boost his international stock appears to have been heightened.
A return to Australia would certainly offer match practice but paradoxically, Verbeek’s preference for European based stars has been well-documented.
For the moment though, it appears Sterjovski’s priority lies elsewhere.
He continued, “I’m happy here and my family is happy here.
"At the end of the season, we will assess the situation and see what is best for myself and the club.
"I’ve got another year left on my contract and we’ll see where I stand and what I’m feeling.
“If I feel I need to move, we’ll talk about it but at the moment I’m very happy.”
