Though ofcourse that turned out to be Burns. Looking at the page, they should adjust the age listed - Perth Glory is actually 14 years old now, not 99? :P

released players: guys, out of all the released players, which ones being released do u think should of stayed at glory?
amaral was a good player, but him being released is understandable to do his lack of fitness, injuries, and age.
David tarka though, may of not had the best season last season but i still do rate him. We havnt signed andy todd yet, assuming we have, that only leaves us with 2 CB's for the season. I think we should of kept tarka, as we will find him useful down the track surely?
I think we also should of kept trinidad, I would much rather see trinidad come on as an impact striker rather than skorich. And with trinidad, he may also be used in midfield, obviously as back up incase we get injuries, which we probably will as with all sport players do.

Amaral - great player but we now have Burns, Shroj, Pelle for the middle with Jukic/Fondyke for the future
Tarka - hasn't been the same player for a while, lack of gametime has hindered his decision making and made him quite error prone. I agree we need one more to complement Todd + Harnwell, but this could be a quality state league player with Griffiths and Neville potential backups
Trinidad - tough one, he certainly had potential - I was excited to see what he could do. Not really suited to the striker position IMHO, rather limited to an AM role instead. I think his work rate wasn't high enough for Mitch, and his ankles seemed to be made of glass. In the end Mitch probably decided there were better uses for the Visa spot and I agree

The signing of Burns essentially negated any residual need that may've been seen in Amaral, sorry to say. He's certainly class and I strongly believe the likes of Central Coast Mariners particularly, given their chronic problems in that DM area, should STRONGLY consider giving Amaral a trial atleast. North Queensland's midfield could still use a bit of strengthening and they still have one Visa spot free - they could always trial him up there too. He would hardly bust the bank for A-League clubs as he showed his commitment by offering a reduced wage offer to Glory and staying back in Perth for months, conditioning himself, hoping to prove his fitness to the coaching staff. Amaral's agent should be on the phone to A-League clubs.

I think his work rate wasn't high enough for Mitch, and his ankles seemed to be made of glass. In the end Mitch probably decided there were better uses for the Visa spot and I agree Would've been nice to keep Tarka, any sentimental reasons aside, he indeed is still quality pedigree and still reasonably young. But I suppose the previous season = that chance to impress, some of us might call for now. And yeah, despite his age, Tarka would certainly be a leader, these days, he's quite experienced and could be considered a 'Glory Veteran.' I suppose it equals an opportunity for one of the young guns, Like Brent Griffiths and evenn Scott Neville (Who plays CB too apparently), I guess. With our depth in midfield now, Jamie Coyne would now, I'd presume, slot back into our defensive rotation too. Problem with Trinidad, he may've been ok, but you can't take up a Visa spot with a player who is ever only just going to be an impact player off the bench and more than that, doesn't offer enough consistently to warrant any more than that. Trinidad's sportsmanship controversies, aswell as some injury problems, did not help his cause much either. He only ended up playing a potion of the season due to these things and that delayed/interrupted his settling into the team line up too. I think the move to drop Amaral and Trinidad have been vindicated, so far, as we've gone on to sign Jelic, who's greatly strengthened our striking options and Todd, who's strengthened our back line. With Burns coming in suddenly we have a thick midfield too. Recoba would then equal the perfect crescendo, squad recruitment wise, as he will fill that 'creative hole' perfectly, in behind Dadi and Jelic there. He will be the link between Burns and/or Srhoj and the strikers. His interplay with wide men like Sikora and Pellegrino will be excellent. And he will fully eradicate any doubts some fans still have about having released Trinidad. I think Mitchell was clearing indicating when he released Trinidad that 'we could find better in that area,' and I'm sure we will. BTW If we sign Ivan Ergic, which I hope is still on the cards, whether we get Recoba or not, then that would also fill that weakness may might still have, 'in the hole.' Ergic would be huge news, bigger than Burns announcement for sure. I truly wouldn't care if we got a Marquee or not (Recoba or the like), if we could snare Ergic our squad would be pretty much complete. Edited by gloryperth: 12/5/2009 07:00:22 PM

Not going to happen anytime soon. Mitchell on LTF said he had spoken to him/his manager 3 months ago and has not heard from him since. Recoba sounds more promising. His manager is in town and it's just the $'s that hasn't been discussed. Just needs to be right I guess.

Tarka /was/ awesome. Unfortunately I think his body might be giving up on him early- he just hasn't been the same since a bad injury and I think he knows it, too. Apparently he's going into business with Mark Lee and another old glory teammate and bringing football to kids with a new skills-based 2v2 game...

Yeah we certainly havent been afraid to get rid of players we in the past would have kept. has Magdic been released ? if so i think hes the one who should of stayed. of course i would have loved to keep trinidad but there wouldn't be room for him in our gun midfield.

Jelic will still have a few games left in the Bundesliga.
I think the Burns signing was a teaser signing - to show Sage and Mitch meant business. Also, the Socceroos players, fringe or not, are like gold-dust so you try to get that deal done as quickly as possible before other clubs get a sniff. Whereas most A-league foreign signings like say a random Brazilian, you can afford to lose out to other clubs - unless they're high quality signings like Recoba etc.

yeh thats true.
that just proves that Branko Jelic cares about the football and not the dollars.
Also the change of lifestyle and coming to live here is a good selling tool aswell.
If he can win golden boot in china, hopefully he can do really well here.
cant wait to see the new look team in action.
I mean as it is now we have a strong squad, imagine with the future additions to come!

Jelic at 32 year old Bundesliga striker, who won the golden boot in the Chinese Super League not long ago, is a far better proposition overall, then the likes of Kevin Phillips, I must say. Jelic, with his Australian wife, has certainly come for lifestyle and would likely play for our club for two or three seasons, hardly costing us a fortune while he's at it. We can't even say this of Dadi, who at his age may not even last another season. But Jelic will be quality akin to the likes of Sikora and Dadi. Jelic could even continue on at the club, post retirement, maybe getting his coaching badges, coach the youth set up or become a scout, join football operations - who knows? Boy we have a quality list of Visa players and more than that, they're a great bang for their bucks - all 'semi-marquees,' or, 'Budget Marquees,' one could could say. Tommycash wrote:Yeah we certainly havent been afraid to get rid of players we in the past would have kept. has Magdic been released ? if so i think hes the one who should of stayed... From what I gather, Magdic has indeed been released - I saw that recent 'Ins Outs of the A-League' article and for Glory, Magdic was listed as released. Hayden Doyle I can't be sure, but he signed some sort of contract with Mandurah City. Whether that's a loan or just a straight signing, I can't be sure. His Wikipedia says its a loan, but that is not referenced and Wikipedia is hardly !00% reliable. I'm favouring the latter, that he was released, given how that source I found on that 'WA Soccer' website, it did not use language suggesting a loan of any kind. Also if he was re-signed we would've heard something, like we eventually did with Scott Bulloch and our squad would be just that little larger. We only have soo many spots left now, so would make more sense if Doyle was released too. Problem is with Doyle, no even did that 'A-League Ins and Outs' article address whether Doyle had been re-signed, released or not - his name was not even listed. Maybe he was signed on a 2 year deal, but I remember he only being signed on a one year deal. Ah HA? With the NYL Team still to be announced, Doyle at only 20 years of age, is still eligible for that team? He 'might be' re-signed, but just not on a senior contract again? He played most of his football last season with the NYL team and apparently did well, especially the back half of the season. Sydney FC had boys in their NYL team who were 20-21 even, so it's not like we could not hang onto him, through the NYL team? Edited by gloryperth: 13/5/2009 04:52:39 PM

jelic is the one with an aussie wife ... go the aussie girls ey haha ... attention to all perth girls ... go and marry some more overseas professional footballers so they can eventually come back home and play for glory haha
hmm ... even though the words came out of dave mitchell's mouth that branko jelic will join ... i still want to hear it be released officially ... u never know with signings these days lol.
with madgic ... with the midfield we have at the moment ... theres would be no place for him anyway .. probably better that he plays state league, at least he will be getting regular football.

Regarding Dadi: Quote: Dadi’s loan a write-off 14th May 2009, 8:15 WST
Perth Glory striker Eugene Dadi has returned to WA a month earlier than expected after falling out with the coach of the European club where he was on loan.
Dadi, who became a fan favourite at Glory last season with a 10-goal haul, was due back in Perth next month but had a disagreement with FC Vaduz coach Pierre Littbarski.
The forward said former Sydney FC coach Littbarski’s decision to suspend him over a minor incident precipitated his acrimonious departure after eight appearances and one goal for the Liechtenstein-based club, which competes in the Swiss Premier League.
Dadi told The West Australian yesterday of his frustrating spell at the last-placed club, which faces relegation after a dreadful season.
The final straw for the 35-year-old came when he was suspended for warming up during Vaduz’s 2-1 loss at home to Luzern last month.
Dadi said he starting warming up to ensure he would be ready to play if he was called on but Littbarski took offence.
“Unfortunately, I found out the next day that Littbarski didn’t appreciate it, so he suspended me for two days,” Dadi said.
The former Ivory Coast international admitted his experience had been tainted almost from the start.
“It wasn’t really what I expected,” he said. “Things were difficult — the way we were playing. We were not good enough and it was a frustrating time.”
The dreadlocked hit man is determined his early departure from Europe will benefit his A-League form with Glory in the new campaign, which kicks off away to Adelaide United on August 7.
Vaduz’s loss will be Glory’s gain as the Frenchman returns to training a month earlier than expected.
Dadi, who played 16 games for Glory before heading to Europe in January, will have two weeks off before joining his Glory teammates, who returned to training this week.
Glory coach David Mitchell had no concerns about the circumstances surrounding Dadi’s return.
“I believe he had a bit of a problem over there but it’s not my issue,” Mitchell said. “I know the player and the person.
“We’ve got a long time in preseason and it’s probably better for the team that he’s back early.”
