Where's the sarcasm?

I too wouldn't mind seeing our away kit unveiled, if the leaked Reebok designs are anything to go by, I am not expecting it to be any good.

Perth Glory did not exist in 1994.

I believe he might be talking about the silver and white kit on the leaked pdf file.

i thought he was talking about the one in our blog.

Sorry to be a nitpick but when you quote a quote which appears in a secondary source aren't you meant to write something like "he told The West" after the quoted quote (my God my writing skills suckkkk)? Or is that just an extra bit of polite that publications do to tip their hat to the original source. f1dave? I suppose you did cite the orignal source at the top - I'm just being picky :D

yeh i read it aswell ..... we have to do well on and off the park this season, we really cant afford to loose tony sage.

Tony Sage is definitely the new nick tana of the club, trying to support and bak the club in every way possible. Without Tony Sage .... i honestly thinking football in wa, and the glory will be in the shits.

By the way people, bring as many people to the EPL games as you can and spread the word.

vrteski has officially re-signed with glory by the way.....

From the west:
West Australian goalkeeper Aleks Vrteski has officially been welcomed back into the Perth Glory fold for the 2009/10 A-League season.

Vrteski will vie for the no.1 position at Glory with fellow Young Socceroo Tando Velaphi, as former German Bundesliga ‘keeper Frank Juric, who featured four times for the WA side last season, takes up a coaching position.

A slimmer-looking Vrteski, who trained with his new teammates this morning at Members Equity Stadium, last played for Glory during the 2006/07 A-League season before spending two years in the Macedonian first division.

When he left he was 17, inexperienced, fat and was a "reasonable" keeper.

Now he is only 20 years old with a bit more experience and has apparently lost a lot of weight.

I would expect him to be at least on par with Tando.

I still would rate tando better then aleks.

....I Definitely am happy to have Aleks as back up rather than juric, and if Aleks was to fill in for tando, Im sure he would be up for the task and do the job well.

Good news on signing Aleks, I think we're getting a balance of youth and experience. Tando is suitable for this level so two young, promising keepers fighting for the spot is great news.

you can call me crazy if you like, but I'm an Adelaide United Gold Member who has just purchase an associate Membership for Perth Glory.

See you for your home games against Melbourne Victory on August 29th and the boxing day clash against the Newcastle Jets.

May have free tickets again for these clashes this year due to the overwhelming success of giving away 40 free tickets to the Adelaide/Perth boxing day clash last year. I found some people down the Hay street Mall who came to their first A-League match last year so anyway to spread the word of A-League football I will do this again.

sweet as man.
good on you.
and on Vrteski im well pleased.
we have by far the two best young keepers in Australia now.
I have a feeling that Aleks may well pressure tando.
a feat not many 20 yr olds in australia would acheive.

Yeah nice capture, good to see the boy back home. He played/was selected for some matches for Macedonia's Under 21s NT too? Despite the league, he's now older and wise with some decent first team, professional football, experience. So he should pressure Tando indeed. Also a bonus, Frank Juric is moving into a coaching role, which means we don't lose a squad place and don't have 3 GKs, which would've been a bit excessive. Juric should be useful as a GK coach, with his exp.

BTW On a different topic, I looked up Bernd Stange the other day and see he's currently coaching Belarus' NT, pretty good gig I'd say! :o More than that, he's lifted the NT to it's highest ever ranking of 57! So he still has his magic.

After his stint with Glory, he coached Oman for a short while. Then, as many of us know, he coached Iraq for a couple of years, during the US invasion. He then coached in Cyprus's league for 2 seasons, before taking over Belarus in 07. Shows how impressed Belarus are with him, given it's 09 and he's still there! :o

I'm just wondering - he's 61, gong 62 next year. Yeah, I know, you can read my mind and sure he'd be a great coach, football director, media spokesman or something for us. I'd just love him to be involved in our club again. He always loved Perth, so I'm sure he'll return here some day. Hopefully it's sooner while he can still actively contribute to our football department. Just speculating - one presumes he will still be coaching them, through to the end of their UEFA WC Qualifying (Where they probably won't qualify), October later this year. February or March next year qualifying may begin for Euro 2012. That tournament is co-hosted by neighbours Poland and Ukraine, so Belarus will be very keen to qualify. Stange 'could' leave or be somehow dismissed from his post, before that campaign or he could push on and depending on Belarus' success, could even coach the side at Euro 2012, at 64, which is possible.

If he returns to Perth at 62 or 64/65, hopefully he can be actively involved with Glory again, even if it's only for a couple years, before he retires or semi-retires.

The media would love it and Glory are already at the moment, showing signs of some sort of comeback, so the club and Perth itself, by season 2010/11 onwards may be all primed for his return.

And some of you might bag him or might even suggest he may not be of the standard the A-League requires. Well I think his current stint with Belarus more than reminds us of his quality. Belarus features players like Barcelona's Alexander Hleb and guys based in the Bundesliga and Russia's Premier League. But it also features many young players from the Belarussian league, many players who Stange promoted himself. And obviously its paid off with their results. Stange also coached the Iraq side who featured the likes of Nashat Akram and co, only 2-3 years before they taught us a lesson at the 2007 Asian Cup. Stange has experience in Oman too, which has also been quite competitive against our NT. The wealth of player knowledge he could bring - imagine - a then 31/32 year old Alexander Hleb lining up as Perth's Marquee, thanks to Stange? Or we bringing in guys like, a then 32 year old, more than 50+ times capped and Russian Premier League pro, Sergei Omelyanchuk as a Visa player for our backline? Alexander's younger brother, Vyacheslav Hleb, a former Stuttgart and Frankfurt player, currently plays C-League for Shanghai Shenhua and may only be 29/30 when we could snap him up, under Stange?

Dave Mitchell will be 48 by the 2010/11 A-League season and depending on his success or not, at this club, he may wish to move onto to Europe, given his solid Dutch and UK connections. So an opportunity could open up for Stange's return. One wonders whether Mitch would be happy to have Stange as Director of Football, if Mitch was still in charge then. Mitch would be a powerful voice at the club too, if he were still to be around then. Stange as DoF, I'm not sure, with a young coach it could work, but he may just be too domineering a presence, especially media wise? So he would have to be coach again, I presume? Unless he's like club ambassador or even ceremonial board member or something. lol Hopefully Sagey will still be around to allow it/get him back here, in any case. :)

lol But it is interesting to see how he's been doing quite well in recent times, rather than fading into semi-retirement obscurity or something, as some might presume. And just wondering whether people agree, if we should have him back, or if we could get him back?

Velaphi can be best in Oz: coach

25th May 2009, 15:00 WST

Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell believes his first choice goalkeeper Tando Velaphi can become the top stopper in the country.

Olyroos ‘keeper Velaphi cemented his position as Glory’s No.1 with a series of fine performances last season, shoring up the defence after an early flood of goals past now-retired duo Frank Juric and Jason Petkovic.

Velaphi is set to be challenged this season by childhood friend and returning gloveman Aleks Vrteski, who has re-signed for Glory after a two-year stint in the Macedonian first division.

But Mitchell confirmed the current status of Velaphi, 22, as his starter between the posts.

“He’s our No.1 custodian at the minute and depending on results that might differ, but at the minute he’s come in and shown he’s really mature,” Mitchell said.

“He had some great games last year and he’s only going to get better and better with Aleks there to push him.

“I think Tando could be the best ‘keeper in Australia if he keeps going the way he is. He’s got a big future ahead of him but he’s very level-headed, he’s an intelligent young man.”

The humble Velaphi played down Mitchell’s bold prediction but stated his desire to “step up to the plate” and match the performances of Michael Theoklitos (Melbourne), Eugene Galekovic (Adelaide United) and Olyroos teammate Danny Vukovic (Central Coast).

“You don’t train every day to be number two or number three, so I’d like to become better and obviously try and make it overseas and play for the Socceroos,” Velaphi, who has a two-year deal with Glory, said.

“But you’ve got to take it one step at a time, go through all the right processes, do the hard work and then things will pay off in the end I think.”

Velaphi also welcomed Vretski’s return to WA, refusing to see his arrival as a threat to his position at Glory.

“Me and Al have grown up together so it’s great to have him on board again… It’s going to be great and hopefully we can both benefit from it,” Velaphi said.

“Alex has shed a lot of weight and he’s a lot more mobile. He’s a lot more positive now, going over to Europe was a great experience for him and he learnt a lot.

“It’s great for both of us really because I can take a few things from him and vice-versa.”

Twice capped by the Socceroos, Juric has moved into a coaching role with Glory and will guide the development of Velaphi and Vrteski with the assistance of former Inglewood United coach Lee Bamber.

I think so too, but no need to put excessive pressure on the lad.
