Maclaren missed a good chance after he did really well to go around keeper one on one but his left foot shot from tight angel hit the post. Sub Joe Knowles had a great late chance but hit his shot straight at the keeper.
A draw would have probably been the fair result. Sorrento early goal in second half lifted their intensity. Very physical side with a centre half who is at least 6'9". Their third goal came from a long throw which he flicked on.
Pretty poor refereeing. Ref was the short arse linesman who runs the line in front of the eastern stand at NIB. Can't control the game and got no help from his linos who ignored stuff right in front of them. 7 players with A-League experience cannot beat a state league opposition and some people are complaing we are bringing in experienced players.

What is this 'external review' you speak of??? I thought it was a door stop for Sage's dunny????? Heh... Quote: Listeners to Not The Footy Show Last week may have heard that Perth Glory CEO Paul Kelly claimed that neither Perth Glory or Tony Sage paid for the recent internal report compiled by David Hatt and Rick Charlesworth. Which seemed surprising seeing that Mr. Hatt had given up three months of his time to compile the report.
Subsequent investigations have proven that this may well be indirectly true. David Tasker from PPR (Professional Public Relations) who is their National Director, Investor Relations and works closely with Mr Sage on many of his other business interests suggested the report, and PPR were the ones who contracted the two analysts and paid them. We have been advised that the club or one of Mr. Sage’s companies will be billed by PPR.

Would like to see Rukavytsya come back to Perth. I think he'd be a great signing.

But we don't know it was back-loaded, all we know is he was on marquee wages WHILST then being put under the cap.
Great quote btw.
Would love to chew Hatt's ear off one afternoon about that report. Sure there's a lot he could add :D

I wouldn't say he's any less dodgy on that particular front than any other A-League club.
Front or back-loading contracts in the A-League to meet the cap is fairly standard practice.
Really though, this quote should accompany the picture of Hersi: “More needs to be done in the recruitment area to guard against the presence of players who simply seek a superannuated end to their careers.”
And yes, that's from the 'external review' of the club.

$500k a year is Marquee wages or else it would be 20% of the cap on one player alone.
That said, Sterj was meant to be on $600k/year and in the last year was allegedly under the cap (too meet the minimum) so Tony has form there for being dodgy.

well we're not getting Garcia, he is gone to Minnesota in 2nd tier US - thank god.
On Hersi - I rate him highly, with him and Sciola on both wings, both options on the wings are very dangerous.
He also played most games this season so doesn't get injured too often.
Just depends on how much Glory have offered him, he rejected $500k from wanderers, is that over 2 years or 1 year?
Not worth $500k a year but if he is on 250k per year for the 2 years, then good signing.

Oh look, another striker/winger for Glory. Ticks ALL the boxes. Over 30...........tick Not a midfielder............tick Over paid.................tick Perth boy................tick Quick Sage, sign him up to a 5 year contract worth at least $500K pa. He's a bargain. Would be a perfect like-for-like replacement for Travis Dodd, who also didn't benefit squad balance or fit at all with the supposed direction of the club.

One does hope he's not just trying to fill space -
David Davutovic Herald Sun May 05, 2014 11:04AM
But below is my top 10 list of free agents, who could yet be poached by rival clubs.
1 Gui Finkler - Melbourne Victory, 28 Negotiations have been ongoing for several months. Was close to penning a deal a few weeks ago, but Sydney FC is showing serious interest.
2 Shane Smeltz - Perth Glory, 32 Revealed that Perth Glory’s lack of professionalism and resources contributed to his lack of game-time this season. At 32, still has goals in him.
3 Matthew Spiranovic - Western Sydney, 25 The Socceroo is unlikely to leave Western Sydney for another A-League club, with overseas a more likely option after the World Cup.
4 Adama Traore - Melbourne Victory, 24 Victory had hoped to stitch him up by now. Having secured Australian citizenship, the left-back becomes a more enticing prospect.
5 Stein Huysegems - Wellington Phoenix, 31 A number of A-League clubs could have done with the Belgian’s 10 goals this season and Brisbane Roar is leading the chasing pack. Turns 32 in June.
6 Richard Garcia - Sydney FC, 32 Sydney FC won’t be re-signing the talented attacker, with a romantic WA (Perth Glory) homecoming looming. Otherwise he has offers from abroad, though his preference is to stay in Australia.

GloryPerth wrote: Perhaps too optimistic, too soon - As ATE has just mentioned - seemsm like boomerangs, both McGarry and Burns are set to swing right back into the Glory fold, via the coaching ranks. :/
TBRH If anything, that troubles me far more than the 'confirmation' of Lowe and process surrounding that! It's not like we lack the strong alternatives out West, including former Glory legends - a number who have been about the Glory coaching staff a number of seasons now? I can understand seeking to groom McGarry, if he's 'soo exceptional' but another green one, the controversial Burns no-less - It's ridiculous and rewarding two players who were part of the problem in regards to the team's downturn this season. It's like when they 'promoted' poor performing coach, Dave Mitchell, to TD!
Yet, Harnwell, Naven, Chris Coyne and co remain working with the NPL, NYL, W-League teams or in the State League. Despite some of them having been working in those roles, with the club (Doing their 'apprenticeships'), for seasons now?
And will Burns and McGarry be a 'condition' for any future Head Coach appointments too?! Heck, maybe another reason why Arnie and whoever turned Glory down?! :-k
Edited by GloryPerth: 2/5/2014 08:15:28 PM What's the bet the conversation with Arnie went something like this: Sage: Tell me, Arnie, what's it going to take to get you to coach Perth Glory? Arnie: I want $300k per season Sage: maybe, we can come back to that. Arnie: I want my own staff Sage: No, we've got great staff. Burns and McGarry. Very good poker players, er I mean, soccer coaches. Arnie: Get fucked.

Totally underwhelming and they would have spent $500K+ to secure him, FFS. Imagine what $500K spent on a coach would have delivered?????? ](*,) ](*,) Edited by hotrod: 4/5/2014 09:00:46 PM

What they need is a play making attacking MF. But it fits in with Glory's player scouting and player development. Go after other A-league club's sloppy seconds, preferably over 30 and make sure youth are released so they can be given more opportunities and become stars at other clubs. :-& Edited by hotrod: 4/5/2014 11:43:52 AM He's a winger. Perth Glory have Harold, Sidnei signed up for next season. There's no over-abundance there like this season. I do think I read something about him preferring to play centrally (#10) but Kenny has his Serb there so I doubt it. If Smeltz signs, Glory can claim to have a "Foreign" front 4 ala Adelaide. Oh course it's a cheap knock-off version. :D Hersi is just proof that Sage/Brewer saw a player they had a hard on for, discovered he was out of contract, and with no thought have tried to lure him. All this spiel about trying to get good out-of-contract players and needing to do it now...and they get Hersi. :/ Oh, and their backup goalkeeper could be coming over which is even stranger news (~EG mentioned it earlier?)

Exactly Hotrod. Where is our play making attacking midfielder for this sort of money? Glory prattle on about identifying the 25 - 30 year old missing players in our group. So we straight away throw obscene money at another outside this group. 10,000 fans can tell you we need a play maker every day of the week. They list Hersi as a Midfielder, but I was too young to see the last time he set something up.
Maybe it's not everything, but it sure helps. Look at Brisbane, with Broich - best in the comp, and a couple of other handy guys, one called Miller and also McKay. Then the Wanderers, with Ono and Mooy. Oh that's right, they've both only got to the big day. What did we have? Only about 5 out and out defensive midfielders.
I say it again, but last season was such a success, we seem to be doing everything again, repeatedly, for the 2nd successive season in a row. Is it really rocket science, or am I missing something too obvious?

Yeah. Can only hope, and that's a loose use of the word, that would have to be over 2 year, which means he's basically on the "Dodd" contract. Because overpaid experienced player worked out so well there!

Like that from Portsmouth guy (Higgins?), he was overseas before. Reckon he should have got a look in at least on a basic contract in the Fergie era. Vittiglia looked sharp and was hard in tackles. Could see him in a McGarry type role in midfield. Grabbed two goals, first a tap in, second a volley in the box from a flicked on long throw.
