It just hasnt worked Edward's youth policy sign Lubo a 32 year old 'nutter' once that ends in tears sign a 36 year old injury prone Frenchman. You can bet if he had a son who was a CB he wouldn't have signed either Lubo or Gallas. Give it a rest mate. Ljubo has issues but is quality, Gallas is injury prone but also quality. Most people on here thought both signings worth the risk. And most Ali haters wanted more senior players in the team, so what's your point - everything he did was wrong? Ljubo was outstanding in pre-season for us. Gallas in his 30 minute false start showed he is a class above this league if he can get physically right and stay that way. I realised when the first of this lot piped up post-MV match that there was no point arguing with them. They have, objectively, only a beginners understanding of football from a tactical or even analytical standing. It is fine to be anti Edwards, however you need to make factual observations to be taken seriously. Edited by Scoll: 28/12/2013 10:40:06 PM Ljubo was outstanding against state league opposition, baby Jesus wept. Gallas outstanding???? He has played 60 minutes in 10 rounds since the announcement on 23rd of Ocotober. As you saying an outstanding signing. Ljubo at that pre-season game had some fantastic passing and positioning, his downfall on the night he could not pick up with the pace and gave away too many silly free kicks whilst trying to chase a player. I reckon he would've been a version of Lucas Neill if he was playing now.

So, let me try and put this into an analogy you may be able to understand. A brewer makes a delicious beer called Ljubraü. This beer tastes amazing, gets you pleasantly drunk and leaves you with the mildest of hangovers the next day. The only problem is, when you drink it you violently shit yourself. The brewer claims that the Ljubraü recipe has been tinkered with and you will no longer have the unfortunate bouts of rectal explosion, some of the original customers are sceptical and opt not to buy the new Ljubraü however new customers who have heard of the amazing benefits decide to trust the brewer's claim that the problems are gone. To the new customers dismay, the explosive shit is worse than ever and they quickly abandon the product. The brewer once more waits a while and comes back with sample market research showing a happy consumer base in a small location with no problems. A group of customers are having real problems with conventional beers and hesitantly try Ljubraü on this new information. Unfortunately, the problems are still there and Ljubraü is (literally) dumped again. A core group of Ljubraü loyalists still exist and want it back, adamant their bowels can handle it. A product can be great but if there are too many recurrent negative side effects, or the market is saturated, it won't find a buyer. Ljubo was walking a fine line when Glory signed him, however he provided evidence that he was able to be stable at a eastern states state league club and Glory were in a situation where they had one senior CB and one junior CB with no specialist cover. It was a risk, but one that could have come out fantastic for Glory. Once it didn't though, the risk factor for other clubs to sign Ljubo flared up and in a saturated CB market he became an unappealing target despite his obvious ability.

Thanks for the info iridium. Unfortunately just makes it harder to tell what the hell is going on in the club. Seems like the tangle of webs involved in the mess just bigger the more is known.

SST's little birdies singing a different tune to Benjamin's little birdies.
It's all a case of smoke and mirrors and people claiming knowledge when they have none...or when they have the knowledge (ie Sage), warping it to their own means so that things are even murkier.

David Davutovic on at about 34mins, talking about PG, claims Edward sons on about bare minimum, SST say 70k and 90k. Don't think I can be bothered listening. Is there any more information concerning the injury replacements? Or did he just state that they were looking for them and that's all...

Had a listen. A LOT of vitriol and accusations from the SST guys. Would find it more believable the SST interviewer didn't admit during the program that he manages a number of Glory players and this thing didn't have the smell of a player revolt. SST really went out of their way to try to justify the actions of the players and paint Edwards as totally in the wrong. "Its not about Burns, its about insulting the club captain, that's an attack on the club"! Give me a break.
Edwards may or may not have been a good communicator, and he may have been a bit naive about being backed by the owner in the situation he put himself in, but the whole 'case against Edwards' seems to me to be well overcooked.
In the end, seems that Sage thought Edwards did very well tactically (esp with all the injuries). This accords with what most on here believe.
Hope that from here, Lowe can continue the good work without creating a shitstorm. Not 100% convinced, as Lowe has to prove himself for the gig and Sage is talking injury replacements - which in the past has sometimes been code for older hacks. We do have Jamo, Risdon, Nagai all out injured for a bit, but Woodcock and Davies have done ever so well and we do have Smeltz, Cernak and Gallas (maybe) back shortly. We are loaded with players who can play wide, so we can cover Nagai. Hope we only go for injury cover if we are looking for class players who will be around next season, or players who won't push out the kids who are doing well.

SST have an agenda against Edwards, wouldn't bother with them.
Also, in better news to most (apart from Rooster),Thwaite has signed on for two more years.

Edited by thomasemiliodavies: 30/12/2013 06:49:16 PM Yeah I would like to see that. Probably Makeche gets a start there though, and Harold on the wing. Thwaite re-signing is another good thing too. though there is some worry there. Everything aside, Thwaite, Vuka, Jamieson are the sort of Easterners you'd like at the club, those who are capable A-League players and raise the bar at the club. Maclaren too, is a good youngster you'd hope to see develop here. Then you just need the Sandgroper to now develop like Neville/Risdon (whilst at the club). One thing we do need to aquire though is another quality CM, but that doesn't look like happening. The problem is that the club is re-sigining players (like Thwaite, Sidnei, Clisby, Harold) is that they are doing this without an actual coach so who's running the show? Doesn't say much to prospective coaches when players are being re-signed before they even have a coach. Next pre-season he's just meant to twiddle his thumbs because the "Club" have signed his squad? Nothing in it really gives you hope...

Hard to know where to go with Smeltz, and accept that injuries can happen to anyone. Reading all things factual (ie, Wiki among others), gives some A League stats: Before Glory, 77 games - 49 goals. Glory season one, 26 games - 17 goals. Glory seasons two and three, 23 games - 7 goals. And worser, those 23 games from a possible 40 after today. If he went elsewhere, and factor in the obligatory 50% improvement of anyone leaving Glory, I guess he'd be star again. So which way do we gamble given our current over abundance of strikers? (We're ahead of Heart in goals scored this season).

I would presume it would be a drastically reduced contract for Smeltz so that would be a plus. I would still be trying to get a goal scorer in regardless.

I'm really not keen to keep him, hardly brilliant last season and has been plagued by injury.
