I guess I will be wearing my 2011/12 blades shirt then. Unless anyone can tell me where to get a 2009/10 shirt, they were one of my favourites and I never bought one (I don't actually remember why I didn't).

There is Cameron Edwards for "CM". The rest are defensive midfielders.

"AM" may need fixing but there's Marinkovic and De Silva to play there. O'Brien too if he starts getting rated.

Zadkovich wore #8 for Jets. I used to find that amusing.

Kenny the Klown has taken that from me now, and all I see is a new Glory #8 who "can't pass and can't shoot". THIS player signed for a spot which was KEY to any hope of a functional ball playing midfield.

I've never seen O'Brien play anywhere other than out wide and having seen him a number of times, I'm pretty confident that he will reach the end of his contract having never played an A League game.

Concur, though less harsh - People saying we need to/will sign another centrally-based midfielder, be they DM/CM or AM, probably don't realise just how many spots in the rotation have already been filled now. That means the midfield options the squad has now compiled will likely be it, come squad finalisation, specially IF they re-sign Gallas! Brewer's further comments today, no doubt stoking fires here, over how impressed he is with the 'rarity' that is Zadko - the club admiring his talents for years... He's our #8, no bones about it - whether we like it or not.

I suspect you may be right on O'Brien, given current trends. There's even less opportunity for the likes of Edwards, O'Neill and co, given he signed Ferreira too - for 'squad depth'!

And people keep talking about needing #10, but it's been clear for a while that Marinkovic is the #10 - we can argue whether he's the solution, but Lowe and co signed him on till the end of this coming season, so they obviously think he may be. :/

Just for some optimism surrounding this pessimistic discussion - the new striker may do alot to improve things. Smeltz and McLaren never gelled within the new set up/folks behind them. Arguably in hindsight Smeltz was the wrong style of striker for our evolving demands. A good VISA may energise the front-line, better inter-play and too pressing/work-rate and provide more lethal efficiency. The new guy may 'click' more with the likes of Sidnei, Marinkovic and Hersi too, hopefully, which will make for more dangerous combos and triangles? And with even Zadko - he has work-rate going for him as part of that his physical engine and agility - that's quite a change from the aging legs of Burns and McGarry. The DM combo of R.Griff and Zadko will be two players entering their late 20s/peak years, younger and more athletic. We have alot more to see from Rostyn Griffiths too, still potentially an outstanding signing for us, if he can replicate his Mariners years. If Marinkovic shows more what Lowe and co see in him, then it may matter less the quality of the likes of Zadko in transition, if the likes of Marinkovic (Who will drop deeper at times) are more involved and central to that transition?

And if Keogh is the new striker, he don't seem too bad at all and is another who is entering his peak years. He was last called up for Ireland as recently as June 2013. Glory's team has a good recent history with top UK-based recent Irish Internationals in the form of Liam Miller too and going by his style of play below, this guy could be involved and combine well too? A lack of goals, goalscoring threat, was perhaps Glory's key concern, especially for the first half of the season (We still have a beast of a back-line & GK) - so just fixing upfront alone, may fix half the team's issues?

Geez you dribble for the sake of it. "spots in the rotation"

Hersi wasn't signed to be in a squad rotation
Zadkovich wasn't signed to be in a squad rotation

They are players who demand starting positions. There's going to be no rotation there save for injury.

Of course Sage-Brewer-Sage whoever loves Zadkovich. He's the embodiment of Jacob Burns. If Muscat wasn't such a Victory diehard, Sage would probably have thrown the book at him.

The team reflects the Owner. Chasing "names" and chasing certain players. Like Burns and Zadko.

GloryPerth wrote:

By getting the ball in the midfield, passing to himself, running forward himself and scoring himself?

Otherwise, nope don't see how he's going to improve things up front.

They never started together and Smeltz shouldn't be so delicate, he's meant to be a proven scorer.

What is a better striker for "Glory"? One who can play in the midfield?

I don't really understand the need for optimism that completely ignores the reality. Work rate wont help the service to the forwards.

Will probably be the same, though I'd imagine the logos will be sublimated and not the plastic feel they first had. The fan gold / black jerseys were all sublimated.

Edit:  What are we arguing?! I used the phrase 'rotation' in terms of back-ups, squad options. 'Spots in the rotation' - aka two players for every position or there abouts. Given all the players we now have in the central midfield area of the park it seems, we won't sign anybody else there, could always be wrong, but existing squad options suggest it unlikely?

And with upfront - I meant neither option of Smeltz nor Maclaren (Earlier in season) seemed to function effectively, or effectively enough, when utilised. I think his style could matter as he may present more options/avenues to receive the ball via greater participation within the game - where Smeltz was a known poacher who'd drift in and out of games? Also, no need for sarcasm, nobody seems to show any faith in Marinkovic, but 'hopefully' he will offer more and fulfil in that AM role as that's what we signed him for. If he was soo useless and 'we need a new AM/#10' then we need to release him first!

BTW On the wages part - overall Ferreira and Zadko may still equal 'relatively cheap' compared to Burns & McGarry?

Edited by GloryPerth: 28/5/2014 08:34:51 PM

The central midfield is not sorted because there's no one to pass the damn ball forward! All those problems last season - will be EXACTLY the same next season, whether they sign Keogh or Messi.

Zadko isn't cheap. He's $220k PLUS, because Newcastle were UNWILLING to match the terms (price and 2+1 years) that Glory were.

Hersi and Zadkovich have been signed almost exactly the same way Dodd was. He was even a former captain too.

The administration do not learn. Period.

Of all the names on these pages, about the only one who'd improve us one iota would be Messi, but Kenny missed the boat there.
I have never been more underwhelmed in Glory's efforts ever to improve their squad. People say we can only more in one direction after last season, but wrong, there are 2 spots lower we're looking at right now.
Get a friggin' midfielder who can create for god sake.
Who's got Tommy Pondeljak's number handy, he's still only 38.
Am not happy with all this crap.
If nothing worked last season, don't do it again, change it.
Right now it wouldn't surprise me if they went looking at our previous superstar striker, Dragicevic.

I guess we already talk in hindsight, as the signings covering that area of the park have already been made. Yeah, we bemoan the quality, but what's worse is that it's unlikely there will be any more additions that area, less Gallas is not re-signed and that remaining VISA/Marquee utilised on the kind of level midfield option you guys seek. Then again, we have Marinkovic?

Don't disagree with your sentiments though. It does seem fairly ordinary, especially with Zadko there, but as I tried above, it's still possible that Marinkovic could surprise us all, especially with Hersi and the new striker in there. Just putting that out there. 8-[

Think Keogh is a decent signing, player in his prime years and coming from a decent level too. I just think he will need a midfielder to create the goal scoring opportunities for him. I don't think he is the type of striker that does it all on his own.

Is this NYL player still about the club? Doesn't seem to be part of the NYL team anymore - has he made any appearances with the NPL side? :-k

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Higgins_(footballer_born_1993)

He's 20 going 21 now and I'm wondering how a player who featured for Portsmouth in the League Cup (Albeit Portsmouth's problems at the time), could then just flounder in our NYL team for what's been the next two seasons?! Seems we're not short of midfielders coming through, about the Glory team, present and recent past, but they don't see the opportunity for some season or another.

Just a quick warning to anyone that has used the Perth Glory website to buy anything such as supporter gear or a membership.

It's quite clear that any password you use there is not securely stored and is freely available to be viewed by Perth Glory and/or their system provider.

Had a bit of a shock when I received my renewal letter from Glory today. It had my password printed out in bold text on the renewal form. Pretty disgusting really and just another WTF moment from Perth Glory. Now I don't use the same password for banking or anything else important, but I think I do use it or a similar password for a few other online merchants. Amazing to think that Glory have your email and password listed in a data base somewhere, not only in plain text, but also freely available to people at the club and the service provider.

Utterly bonkers.
