From Glory's Facebook page:

The decision not to proceed with the match was made by the Glory's Head Coach and the Clubs coaching staff who were unable to safely prepare the team at the venue in order for the game to proceed. The Club wholeheartedly supports the decision made by its coaching staff. The cancellation at such a late time is highly disappointing particularly given all at the Club and at Sydney Olympic were keen for the game to proceed.

The Club will not be making any further comment on the matter.

Saw somewhere on twitter that there was an under 16s game on beforehand and the Glory and Sydney Olympic players were asked/expected to warm up on a small field next to the ground.

Kenny Lowe described it as a "hill" on 6PR and said it was his decision to cancel.

The problem wasn't with the ground, it was with the inability to warm up on it (or somewhere considered suitable).

 There's a perfectly good pitch next door to Belmore Oval that Olympic use occasionally when the Doggies don't let Olympic play there. Failing that, there's a park next too Belmore Oval.

Failing all of that, they could have pissed off up the Belmore Hotel for half an hour. $16 Buckets of Coors Light, and then they could have popped across the road to Eagle Boys Pizza for a feed.

Poor form by Glory. Bunch of pussybitches.

So I guess this wasn't the inspiring performance I was hoping for to make me sign up.
Would it go down in the 'plus' or 'minus'column as a reason to get a membership?

Now we'll get 3 or 4 days moaning, and no doubt longer, about missing our crucial lead up game to Malaga.
Such is Glory, always finding a way where everyone else in the world has messed them up.
Oh well, roll on for the next instalment.

All of that and much much more!

Belmore has two perfectly suited training parks, like Heineken said, one is a football pitch with lights, the other is a park/open field also lit up. and after the local, state and federal govt pumped millions into Belmore the facilities there are second to none.

Shame though, after the so called partnership that was recently created by the two clubs this is the last thing that was needed.

Poor form from Lowe and co.

Wonder what the players thought of this? If they didn't want to play, they need their asses kicked, but by whom?

If it's Lowe's fault, and the players wanted to play but he didn't, that's absolutely woeful.

You've got to wonder, would Brisbane have thrown a tantrum in this situation? Probably not. They would've got over the lack of warm up area, and played the game. That's the difference between the top teams and us. We've got no hunger.

If you do the hard yards in pre-season, it'll pay off in the regular season. If not, you'll be found out. Cancelling a game at the last minute shows a lack of desire, which is not what you want to see at this stage. Doesn't bode well at all for this season.

That's right, it doesn't make any sense this. The media release from Perth Glory with the no further comment makes it even worse for them. In time I am sure the true reasons will come out from Olympic (as nothing is secret with them)

It makes you wonder why would a team from the other side of Australia cancel a game 1 hour before kick off purely because the warm up ground wasn't sufficient which is a joke because the whole stadium and surrounding areas have seen major upgrades.

Something's fishy here.

Kenny always comes across on pressers as a bit of a whinger, so maybe it's that he got upset and threw his toys out of the pram.

Or maybe he also realised that at this point, his players were taking time to recover from the Adelaide game and would struggle to play Olympic and Malaga in the space of a few days?

The Worst article suggests that the FFA may consider a fine for Glory.

Overall, it does seem pretty piss poor if you commit to a game and then don't play because a local club hasn't laid out the red carpet. Apparently Glory were offered the main pitch to warm up, and if they had to put their kit in change rooms that also had u/16's gear in it, would that be so bad? Would Kenny have pulled the plug if it had been an FFA cup match?

Perth fans. Not sure if he's posted about it in here yet or not, but Eastern Glory and myself will be heading to see Jerks v Perth in the FFA Cup on Tues 5th August.

Thought I'd extend out the invite to join us to any Perth fans that may be in the area and are keen to come watch it. Also, if there are any of you that are thinking of heading over specifically for it, hit me up with a PM and we might be able to work out a cheap/free way to get you a room for the night.

I hope they cop a fine as its down right unprofessional.

If it was played the other way around and a state league team did that to an AL team the shit would hit the fan.

It cuts both ways and I do hope the FFA slap em with a fine..even a suspended fine would be sufficient enough to make a point.

It's Glory.

Don't know why this is surprising to anyone?????

There's more to this than meets the eye. Always is with Glory.

Maybe a player revolt??? Not beyond the realms of possibilities.

Fucking unprofessional all round.

I hope Glory get the book thrown at them by the FFA.

Now awaiting the rose tinted glasses wearing supporters to say there's nothing to worry about.

That flows so smoothly from last week's big appointment:

Perth Glory is pleased to announce the appointment of award winning journalist Peter Kapsanis as the Club’s Media and Communications Manager. Peter arrives at the club after eight years as a senior television news reporter and producer at Channel 9 Perth.

A self-described “football mad” fan, Kapsanis has co-produced and presented the popular online show "Football 360" for the past three years, raising the profile of the round ball game throughout Western Australia.

"It's a tremendous and rewarding opportunity to be involved with an elite sporting club like Perth Glory" Kapsanis said.

"Football is my life and I'm looking forward to being part of a renewed and vibrant team, that’s aiming to be the Hyundai A-League champions this season" he added.

Perth Glory's chief executive, Jason Brewer, said it was a “coup” for Kapsanis to join the Club’s ranks.

"We are delighted to have someone of Peter's calibre, journalistic skill and experience and there's no question he is will further strengthen our activities off the field and broaden the mainstream media coverage of Perth Glory” Brewer added.

One of Kapsanis’ first role will be in covering the Club’s intensive pre-season.

In the world of social media the comment "The Club will not be making any further comment on the matter" is absolutely wasted, and leaves them open to a social media barrage (and the club can't or won't respond). Silence is rarely the best answer.

From the Sunday Grimes:
A crowd of 23,254 watched Malaga take on the Reds at Adelaide Oval, but less than half that number is expected at Perth Oval today, with poor ticket pre-sales indicative of the WA soccer public’s apathy toward attending matches.
What is apathy?
Attending to the food shopping took priority, and Glory still have heaps and heaps of work to do to win me back.
Last week's Sydney debacle only set it back further.
I look forward to heaps of constructive reports from the match.
Did Glory create copious amounts of chances as Kenny says we will with the squad he now has?
Did we have a few actual 'shots at goal' that tested the keeper, or are we still stuck with 1 shot at goal per half?
Did Kenny start with all his new signings, plus say Vukovic, Thwaites, Risdon and Sidnei.
That would be Kenny's preferred ideal full strength team at a guess.
Then we'd still sit DDS and O'Neill on the bench for 75 minutes, bring both on, and suddenly we look much better.
Hopefully anyway, we've shown signs of progress and players are looking match fit regardless of last week.

I explained to my daughter how we'd drawn with Malaga.
She thought it was an OK result ... but wondered why we played a side from one of Perth's northern suburbs and whether it was their senior team or a lower age bracket.
Oh well, back to the iphone and homework for her.

good see you can still find something to moan about, even if it was a La Liga side much better to forget the result or performance and focus on the fact that there is an industrial suburb of the same name here in Perth.

Just saying.

Only the 5000 punters at the ground yesterday knew who Malaga were.

The missing 10000 thought Glory were playing some bogans from the northern suburbs. Why pay money for that??

Why do you think there was no-one there?

If there was a Liverpool or West Ham etc there would be no confusion there.
