I thought Scott Bulloch had been re-signed, it was announced around the time of Skorich and Griffith's deals?

Would prefer Recoba as he would offer something different to the team than Kanu.

I believe that whole Rockingham-Mandurah corridor - If Perth were to ever have a second A-League franchise, that should be the region to base it. Maybe not now, but in 15-20 years, yes.

I hope that happens even if they start off in a second division league to build support. They could have Rockingham all the way down to Albany and across to Esperance if they wanted to. Excited times for WA Football. Not to far to drive or catch the train but far enough not to impede on Perth Glory's and their own football markets. Should this happen!

There was a bit of a supporter's bus/train trip down to Mandurah, too.

I presume that no matter where the pre-season matches are in WA this year, similar things will occur.

Why on earth would they play Fury in Carnarvon?

Do they really think they might get people from Carnarvon to make the trip down to perth to watch games?

Some at the press conference said the Carnarvon local member Nick Cantania can get a full house (around 4,000 - 5,000) to the newly developed oval up there.

Now that is the kind of signing we should be looking at!

Can I just say thanks to the sudden appearance of Perth Glory bloggers and their reporting. Football news is woeful in this state, as you all know, so your efforts are appreciated - although be aware of the boy who cried wolf story in any of you have long-term interests in this career...

Appreciate the appreciation :P I like the use of "sudden appearance" which is 100% true. One day I had an idea for the blog, the next I started it up. Although if the glory weren't out there and active - it would of been 10 times harder.

the reason i didnt give this story much credit is they say kanu could go to perth for a lucrative deal. i'm pretty sure the agent and those involved are aware how little money is actually on offer here. only bonus on hearing so many names is at least we are in a position to be a little more selective rather than just taking the first person who shows some interest.

Just to catch up on some squad news, apparently this is about a month old, but for those who don't know, Mark Lee was released by the club, in early April, as reported below on the 9.4.2009:

http://members.iinet.net.au/~jacob/wasoccer/archivednews/2009MarApr.htm

Quote:
LEE PLANS FOR LIFE AFTER GLORY

Midfielder Mark Lee is considering his playing options after being released by Perth Glory. Although not surprise that a contract wasn’t forthcoming from the A-League club, Lee says he was disappointed by his lack of game time during the summer of 2008/09. “I’d spoken with (coach) Dave Mitchell at the end of the season and it was pretty clear then that I wasn’t part of his future plans,” said Lee, who featured in only two games last season. “I’ve been involved in the game for a long time and I know how it works. Unfortunately, I was not given any opportunities after the second round so it’s been a very frustrating time for me.”

Although circumstances restricted him to just 10 first team appearances, Lee says he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his time in the A-League. “I have no regrets - none at all,” said Lee, who signed short-term deals with the club in 2006 and 2007 before landing a full-time contract last season. “I gave everything I had when I was training and playing and enjoyed every moment of been a professional player. I only worried about the things I could control and have no regrets as I know I could not give any more. Being selected in squads, getting another contract and playing in my preferred position was not under my control.”

Lee starred on the local stage, most notably by winning the 2005 Gold Medal while at Bayswater City, before stepping into the national arena in late 2006. “I played my first A-League game when I was 27 and always felt very comfortable playing at that standard. The pitches are fantastic, the atmosphere is great and it’s a nice environment to play in,” he explained. “Making my home debut against Adelaide with my wife and parents in the crowd as a definite highlight, as was playing in front of the children I’ve had the pleasure of coaching here in Perth.”

Playing for Glory Youth last season was an enjoyable experience for Lee, who by day is a youth development officer at Football West. “It was great to play for the Youth team as it was a chance to play. No matter what game I play in I love to play. I have coached some of the boys and it was nice to be able to give some advice to them on the pitch,” he commented. “The quality of players in the Youth program is very good, they all have a good attitudes and will hopefully have very bright futures in the game. As long as they work hard and take any opportunity that comes there way all the players have A-League potential.”

The past few months have been hectic as Lee combined his Glory commitments with those at Football West. “It was an ideal situation as I didn’t feel any pressure or worry about a bad training session as I had another focus as soon as training was over,” he commented. “A typical day started at 7am in the office and then off to training for 9am. After training, when the other lads were going to the golf course or the beach, I was back in the office and then coaching in the afternoons, sometimes getting home as late at 10pm - so the days were long.”

At 29, Lee still has a lot to offer the game as a player and is planning a State League return once recovered a foot injury. “I had an operation which stopped me playing for Glory at the start of this year and have been training by myself for the last three weeks. I feel really fit but have not put the boots on so will have to see how it feels when I do this,” he said. “I want to play for a coach who has a similar philosophy on the game - one that encourages his team to play in the correct way and makes training specific to how the game is played. But most of all I want to enjoy playing the game again.”

Only Bulloch, Magdic and Hayden Doyle are unconfirmed now, AS FAR AS I KNOW. Hayden Doyle has 'apparently,' according to his Wikipedia entry, been recently 'loaned out' to State League side, Mandurah City. So if that is technically a 'loan' then I presume he has re-signed with Glory? I can't find any sources on the net for this move though. Edit: Seems he actually signed a contract with Mandurah City, I see no indication that he's still with Glory.

Edit: Ah found a 'source' on that same website:

Quote:
29.4.2009

SHORT PASSES

...

Mandurah City has added Perth Glory utility Hayden Doyle to their playing roster. Raised in Bunbury, Doyle made four senior appearances for Glory last season and will be a valuable addition in Mandurah's push for silverware. Prior to joining Glory, the now 20-year old served a two-year apprenticeship with English club Stoke City which was followed by a spell with Niki Volou in Greece.

...

What do you guys reckon?

We have 17-18 players signed so far, essentially. 23 is the max. Alot of players have departed the club. It's possible Bulloch may be re-signed, given he's a left sided player, but that may be about it. Elevating young midfielders like Fondyke and Jukic to the senior squads, may see Magdic released, if they haven't already.

Mitchell has been ruthless. :o

Yeah it's tough right now. It's exciting, and hard not to get your hopes up. It does seem likely we will have some kind of Marquee player this season though, which will be great.

Regardless of what happens with all these big names, I think this season is going to be exciting.

everything else the same though with recoba/sterjovski partnering dadi up front ... providing we can hopefully sign either of them lol

Hmm lol yeah, Sterjovski may end up at Adelaide at this rate, but we're still a chance.

And I feel with the Recoba thing - sure it's alot of talk, amongst alot of talk, these past couple months. BUT, I think with Recoba that sure, it's almost too good to believe, but with dreams, ambition, one can be inspired to strive. And the very fact we ARE talking to these guys is something. I think because it seems soo ambitious, too good to believe, many of us get kind of get pessimistic, or doubt it straight away. Though I know the saying, 'If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.' But I'm glad that these days, it's possible.

I mean, look from where we've come! Steve McMahon Jnr. Briane Deane, that Croat guy in Smith's reign... Sure Deane aside, many of them were not Marquees, but still, they were the quality of imports we were bringing in.

Now the bar is far higher and with guys like Dadi and Sikora setting it pretty high, then one, in Sagey and Mitch's era, with their records in recruiting so far, so expect that future foreign recruits should also be meeting that bar and Marquees having to exceed it.

I mean back in V1 and V3, Stan aside, guys like the Dadi and especially Sikora's of today, would've = Marquees, surely? Far better, more appealing options than what we had. I know the A-League as a whole has come on leaps and bounds in this regard though, so saying that may not be fair.

Whoever we get, especially as Marquee, they're bound to be good, that's for sure.

^^ lol

Ah Sausage Mohaney, he would be excellent indeed. I'm actually sorry to admit - I'd actually forgotten all about the guy! (Understandable some may say, given his choices)

Oh well, great to see he's still interested in coming 'home.'

But, as some have said, our midfield will be CRAZY!!!!!

How will be sort out the dressing room? Who goes where? Lol we aren't the A-League's Chelsea, or are we? :o

Embarrassment of riches, that would be.

The great thing is though, I and some others, were posting our theoretical line ups and Victor Sikora is quite capable of playing anywhere, Sikora could well be pushed to LB now, if we do pick up the likes mentioned in Sausage's blog! And even guys like Burns and Srhoj, they're players capable playing in different positions. Like Srhoj could capably play RB for instance? Though I all know we have Scotty Neville all lined up for that possie. ;) Srhoj could also play wide right, I think? So more pressure on Pellegrino and Downey.

What is looking increasingly likely, with these new recruits, is that two of our leading lights of last season, Pellegrino and/or Srhoj, may see less first team this season, if we can land a few more of these 'stars.'

And as has been said, it's not like new recruits won't be adaptive.
