Instead of running towards Keogh, he drifts off Malik's shoulder into space, and then bam! Edited by hotrod: 5/4/2016 04:43:21 PM

Because he... knew that the only way Keogh would get him the ball was the in the air pass. if Keogh has passed that at knee height or along the ground Malik was in position to block in out. The quick flick across was the only way Castro could get it. I bet it felt like an eternity waiting for it to come down for Castro.

So.... Only a few weeks ago, I was extremely excited about the prospect of signing Rhys Williams... But really, we don't a CB, RB or DM anymore, if we re-sign our current first XI in those positions. Do we sign Rhys anyway and use him as a utility/depth? Baring in mind that we will probably release Djulbic and Zadkovic at the end of this season, as both would be expensive and no longer first teamers.

Djulbic should be resigned as Glory need at least three dedicated CBs. I'd only see Glory chasing Rhys Williams and/or Herd if Risdon is sold OS and maybe a LB, even though Warren has made plenty of RWs his bitch this season. Can't see where else to strengthen the squad. Just some of the dead wood would need to be let go.

Unless we sign someone really decent. And agree regarding rhys. Sign him if the risdon extension is only to get money from a transfer.

Will Dino leave? If he does Rhys would be a good signing if he's fit. If we get into ACL he could go into midfield as well. I want to see another AM. If Roda don't play DeSilva like they said they won't, take him back just for a year to help with game time. We need an other AM to either improve on Marinkovic or provide depth if we lose Castro to injury...(or he hasn't even re-signed yet???).

He's made about 400k off us in two seasons and hardly played an game. State league time for him I reckon. I'd like Rhys in as we can't keep Dino, he'd just be too expensive, and he'll want to play every game. Better off signing Rhys and using him as a utility, and picking up another cheap defender as further back up. Keep Warren.

I can't imagine Williams wanting to play as a Utility. He would want to be a focal piece at this level in order to put himself back in the shop window. Slide Lowry to leftback and have him play CB. The only other scenario I can see is that Risdon is all but gone and he takes his place.

Did anyone catch the 'interview' with Kenny Lowe on the Daily Football show. Ive never heard the Panelists so .. intimidated and lost for words.
As for Rhys Williams, Im not sure he is even needed anymore. Id keep Dino for his height. Id keep Grant and Lowry where they are.
Im not sure on De Silva. Reimers has kinda taken his role.
Is Covic likely to want to play on?

Hardly a pressing issue but I would love to see Glory update their badge for next season. The current crest is super boring and relatively meaningless. Would do well to incorporate a West Australian feel to it too, as well as a reference to our history. Maybe a black swan and an Est.1996?

With the Dino discussion - Was the Lowry/Grant CB duo finally exposed against Sydney FC? For atleast one of the goals Lowry was caught out for a rare, unfortunate, error with his poor clearance. In that moment and another, he and Grant were turned on their non-preferred sides, where a right sided CB might've had less trouble? Most of back-half of season they've been fine in this regard, but against SFC perhaps some weakness exposed? :-k Having the quality and experience of Djulbic in the rotation, the option to come straight in come any drops in form, injuries or suspensions - it will just be wonderful insurance and perhaps the depth necessary, for Glory's bid to challenge next season.

Edited by hotrod: 18/4/2016 05:43:11 PM We don't need three keepers unless one of them is youth eg Thurtell. Covic isn't interested in sitting on the bench. If we sign a first team keeper he will be off - probably to CCM, god knows they need someone better than Izzo. Kosta Petratos only just signed to end of next season so don't know why you are saying cut. Apart from one goal, what could possibly have encouraged you to suggest keeping Gligor? Otherwise I agree with you. It would be good to get an upgrade on Marinkovic (who is contracted for next season). I like him but unless they are going to change the laws of football so you can bring on a specialist kicker like they do in American football, I don't think we can carry his lack of contribution in general play.

Keep Gligor as purely back-up/squaddie only. Would not shed a tear if he was cut and replaced with someone better. That someone better is really only going to sit on the bench and play a few games in the NYL (or that now defunct?) From what I've seen of Petratos, he is extremely raw. Loose ball control and offers almost zero defensively. Only impressed me for about 10 metres and then ran into a defender and lost the ball. If he has to be retained, then he needs some skills training in those areas.

There's been another article just today, on Rhys Williams to Glory: http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/04/18/glory-target-league-bound-williamsGiven discussion earlier - I think you guys may be right in-terms of we needing to let go quality like Djulbic, but just for the cap space alone. In-order to sign Williams Glory will be needing to make more room in that cap. Garcia and especially Zadko leaving - that may also allow for more room to move in the cap. TBH I think it's a mistake Glory locked in Marinkovic to the long-term contract they did. He's been too inconsistent for my mind and has inevitably fallen back in the pecking order once Glory's team uplifted their level and found form on the field. The Hungarians and Castro have relegated him to the bench. I presume Marinkovic will be bound for an earlier release, come next mid-season, if trends remain the same. So much rests on if Glory can re-secure Castro and too, whether he can sustain a full season, fitness wise, as he has this time around. Marinkovic could be seen as the necessary quality in depth to fill that potential void during the 16/17 season. Elsewhere in the squad, Mitch Oxborrow seems to be rated for his dead ball qualities and Jamal Reiners is a top talent too, climbing the pecking order in Marinkovic's area of the field. February 2015: http://www.perthglory.com.au/misc/nebo-the-specialist-signs-on-with-glory/2vxb2clp61zk1erwi1d6y7ls2 I suppose it was a different time back then (This was just prior to the Salary Cap revelations) and it's pleasing to see Glory have improved the squad again, against the odds and arguably to a level better than any Glory team we've seen. Ok, but when Glory are full strength his position was less certain than before. Reiners can play on the flanks which is where Marinkovic has been employed more recent times. Castro was used out wide initially but once he was moved centrally Glory performed better. That's not Marinkovic's best position but he's kind of slotted in the line-up reshuffle. With Taggart coming in, he will add to the competition in those wide areas and Harold is more secure in his position than Marinkovic I feel. It's not a bad thing, it's good if Glory have Marinkovic as that flexible option to keep competition for squads competitive. Taggart can't just walk into this team's line-up.

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/04/20/glory-homing-herd-after-williams-coupThis squad's options are suddenly changing very fast! :o With Williams AND Herd in the team it will be fascinating to see how Lowe utilises them. Both players are versatile and can and have featured at DM, RB and CB for their clubs. Williams seems more primarily a CB/DM and Herd is better utilised at DM/RB. Herd could be an option to straight replace a departing Risdon though. Do we know if Vadocz has been re-signed yet? These signings could put paid to that, but if Djulbic and Zadko are leaving then perhaps not. If the Sandor-Vadocz partnership retained, then breaking up the Lowry-Grant CB duo could be quite possible, especially with the potential, Socceroos-level CB pairing of Williams-Lowry. Warren was always a squaddie at-best, even despite his performances so Grant or even Lowry shuffling to LB is quite feasible too. Both, especially Lowry, have strong career experience in that position. Lowe (And Filopoulos) said the club also had its eye on former WA players currently with rival A-League clubs: Jesse Makarounas' contract with Melbourne Victory is expiring and he would not just be a great story to return, but ideal for Glory's current squad needs too. A Left-sided Attacking midfielder/winger/second striker-type. With Reiners and Makarounas waiting in the wings and too Marinkovic in the rotation, Glory will most definitely have a Championship contending squad assembled for all teams to fear!

Not a Perth Glory fan, but gee i'm loving how they are going about their business.
Perth local boys - Play for the shirt, natural way of bringing fans in/creating a buzz. All fringe socceroos - Something to prove. All early signings - give the bulk of the squad a full pre-season.
Asked Davutavic regarding an open marquee slot even if Castro resigns and he is under the impression that all of Williams, Keogh etc are under the cap.. Which is scary if they can sign Castro + a marquee CAM.
This is my squad so far:
____________Covic Risdon__Lowry___Grant____Herd _________Williams Castro_____________Harold ________MARQUEE AM ____Keogh______Taggart
Bench: Sandor? (contracted?), Marinkovic, Warren etc
Love how they are also looking at Brad Jones if Covic goes...
