Not looking promising Sagey made a point of saying we're gonna give him his space. So we will see.

This could come back to bite us if Rhys and Chris can't stay fit...
At least Oxborrow has shown some promise.
Good luck to them all.

Covic's contract expires soon and Glory may be delaying their decision in the hope of securing Brad Jones. With Sandor and Vadocz (IRP) gone, a positive is it frees up a VISA place to strengthen elsewhere in the squad. The squad still needs a left sided talent or two.

Quote:“It’s been a wonderful experience for me and my family and I am truly humbled" 33 year-old Castro said.
"Tony Sage, the players, staff and all the members have been exceptional and very hospitable since I first arrived” he said.
"It's a season that will always be a highlight for me and an experience I will never forget". These sound like departing words to me.

I fear you may be right soil. No news yet despite Sage jetting to Madrid last weekend. Rumours of that $1.4M offer from India. Lowe has a job on his hands to find a suitable replacement in that area of the field. Interestingly, whenever Glory have had a decent AM/#10 they have performed very well in the A-League, see Sikora, Liam Miller (2012 A-League GF), Mitch Nichols and Castro recent times. If they sign Carrick, then Glory won't be quite the same, despite Carrick's qualities. Smells a bit like the Gallas signing too - I thought Sage was interested in Marquees who play in the attacking half of the field?! As Lowe said, I think Glory truly were lucky to get hold of Castro at the time they did - a rare find. I guess we should be pleased with that in itself, hopefully Lowe can get hold of that agent again. :D http://www.a-league.com.au/article/pertth-glory-coach-relieved-diego-castro-signed-for-aussie-adventure/ci93p2vajxqa1gf8x3szj1j1j - 27 April 2016

Story in Sunday Times on the weekend running the line that the Glory's request for mostly Saturday 7pm home games is likely to be looked at favourably now that Fox has lost the EPL rights. 7pm Perth time is 10pm eastern so gives them football content until midnight whereas previously it clashed with the early EPL game. Suits me fine and with the added bonus that it feels like a 10pm kick off for the teams that fly over the day before the game. Edited by biscuitman1871: 17/5/2016 02:06:35 AM

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/31617509/perth-glory-unhhappy-about-concert-clash-with-fixtures/Talk about Castro wanting to play another year with Glory... Quote:The fixture arm-wrestle has come amid a potential breakthrough in negotiations with Spanish star Diego Castro.
The A-League’s reigning Johnny Warren medallist has indicated he wants to play another season with Glory, fuelling fresh hopes that Perth can retain their marquee signing.
Glory want to finalise their squad next month, with pre-season to begin on July 1. Going to be so disappointed if he doesn't re-sign now. Looking promising. Also... Quote:That scenario would force Glory to play outside of Perth for at least three weeks running on two occasions next season.
A decision by VenuesWest to carry out turf maintenance at nib Stadium for three weeks, including Christmas and New Year, has also robbed Glory of a bumper period for home games.
Filopoulos said he was baffled.
“It’s bemusing that the Government spent $95 million on a venue primarily for use by Glory and the Force and we embark on a fixturing process with the venue unavailable for a large portion of dates,” he said. Less great news.

Pretty rad from an Eastern States perspective too - the chance to watch three games every second Saturday would be great, and would probably do wonders for Glory's crowds too, especially in the middle of summer. Good outcome all round if it comes to be.

Not happy and sort of happy......... Glory sing the blues over music concertsPissed off with the possibility of 12 home and 15 away games, but pleased to see Castro wants to say (meaning he still wants more money).

I reckon the Subiaco Oval will be the first option before giving away home games. We played the first game of the season there a couple of seasons ago (Mehmet scored the winner against Brisbane). The WACA is out because it is cricket season and the grass will be cut too short. Story in the West quoted the Sport Minister as saying the Glory could appeal against the tentative concert bookings so maybe hope is there? What is wrong with Perth Arena, the WACA, or Subiaco for concerts?

They'll just piss on football and toss in the occasional Socceroos game every 10 years to keep us happy. Edited by hotrod: 17/5/2016 03:56:10 PM

Yeah, was about to share this from the same article Soil and Hotrod shared: "Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said the high number of outdoor concerts being planned around Australia this summer had made the A-League fixturing more complex. She said some of the third-party bookings at nib Stadium were tentative and could be formally challenged by Glory." Well, well, let's see about that. This is also part of Filopoulos' job and Sage has extensive experience now, in his own complicated relationship dealings with nib. He's damn right that it's lacking respect for one of the ground's primary and most long-time tenants. Anyway, Subi may not be so bad, for a select marquee-level fixture or two (like a Victory or SFC visit?) - Glory drew nearly 15k when they hosted Roar there a few seasons ago (Billed as a GF re-match?)? These temporary Perth Oval concert bookings don't appear on any websites, so just get on with it and make some concrete bookings instead of carrying on with this rubbish. Year, after year, after year ....
When I recently forwarded my draft 2016/2017 fixtures to the FFA, I noted the following: • I do not have any ‘wish list’ of any team of preferred days, times, etc. • I do not have access to any ground availability information. • I do not have access to any TV scheduling requirements. And while I do not have access to preferred match times, I will say that any match in Perth between the beginning of October and the end of March must never commence before 6.30pm. So while I do not have access to a number of important considerations, what I do have is that one ingredient that has seemed so lacking in past fixtures, common sense.
To their credit, FFA did reply, and basically advised that it was a very complex issue, and one that needed to consider the preferences of each team, ground availability and broadcasting requirements. Oh really, wish I’d thought of those!
But the real key in their answer was: “ … key principles and considerations associated with scheduling that FFA must follow… develop a fixture schedule which provides all clubs with a fair and equitable competition schedule for all competition integrity purposes … “ My subsequent response, which now obviously has gone unanswered, included: “You simply cannot have a fair and equitable competition no matter what without at first setting out fixtures where each team plays each other only once in each set of 9 rounds. No exceptions. Some basic examples: Perth Glory: (i) In their last 10 rounds played only 7 difference opponents. Seven! (ii) Played Adelaide 3 times in the first 14 rounds. What! We’ve got 9 different opponents. (iii) Didn’t play Newcastle for the first time until round 16. You are kidding! Could not even fit 9 different opponents into less than 16 rounds. And this is just the team I concentrate on, and I know most other teams have very similar situations”.

Well if the info about Fox news being more open to 7;00 games because of the loss of rights to EPL games is right I think that will help alleviate the issues you brought up. Not quite sure on how the fixtures ended up with regards to playing the same teams though. Would be nice to see reasoning for fixtures released .

Carrick had his children with him in his last Man U game, along with some of the other departing players. Might indicate that he's closer to leaving than staying. Means nothing though, sure someone else will sign him. Although Garcia is staying on as player/coach next season so might be a little incentive there to meet up with old friends for a year. I'll throw my money at Sage if he somehow gets Carrick and Castro into the same team.

Plus, by going into a coaching roles, that frees up more of the cap, so a bonus there. Probably free up $100 to $200K.
