The guy's clearly happy; I'd do the same if the Jets won it again

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

WGMG: Having to play on fields that are obviously not level. One side of the field I played on today had one side about a meter higher than the other.

My guess would be Seymour Shaw or Jannali.

In fairness, both sides have to play on the same surface, so you're both going to struggle and it's a mark of the better side as to which adapts sooner.

Como-west Jannali play and train there each week and therefore should be more used to it. Their home advantage I guess.

It's not like it's impossible for it to have been offside. The yellow is harsh, but you should know better than to question the ref.

Ummm... Yes it was. If the Ref put the infringement in their half, it means he is wrong. You CANT be offside in your own half.

Either way though, the ref wont change, even if you question him.

What if he has run back from an offside position in the other half to interfere with the play

Then fould should be taken from where he was offside or on halfway. You can't award a foul in the teams own half for offside.

The foul is from where the player touches the ball, not from the point where they breach the offside trap.

We've just shown a circumstance where it's possible for the player to be offside and touch the ball in his own half, so clearly that statement isn't quite true.

](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Understand the law. A player is offside if he interferes in Active play. The foul is given where the offence is first committed ie where the player is offside. So if he was offside and came back thus interfering in active play the foul must be awarded where he first started interfering.

This. The foul is given where the player was first found to be offside not where he first touches the ball. That's why as a linesman you are taught that when you give an offside you stop and put the flag up at the point the attacking player is ahead of the defending players not where he collects the ball.

If he interferes in the active play. Therefore the call may not be immediate.

If the player moves from an offside position directly into possession of the ball (thus interfering with the play) he's technically offside courtesy of the placement of the defenders in the attacking half. It's only because he's directly interfering with the play that he could possibly be called on it.

I'm pretty sure that the ball is placed where the player was when the pass was first played, not where he received the ball. So, for it to be offside, the ball HAS to be placed in the other half.

SC58, your a linesman yes?

EDIT: Just re read SCs post. I thought thats how it was. Its NOT where the player first touches the ball, its where he originally infringes the law

Ah, but see that's the grey area here. Because he has the right to return to an onside position following a play, he hasn't technically infringed until he actually touches the ball.

Just go read law 11. You are so fucking wrong.

Or here it is in real simple terms.

Player offside moves towards ball means he is entering play thus he is interfeering thus he is offside.

Not at all.

"A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by...Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position" - FIFA.com

Therefore he isn't offside until he actually touches the ball, since he has the right to let the ball go and return to an onside position, not being involved in the play, thus not committing the foul.
