Guys & Gals

Does anyone have any experience to pass on for tips on getting kids noticed? Living in a rural area kids are continually overlooked based on geographical location. As they reach later teenage years and go past national level for juniors which finishes at U16 (Qld) how can they be seen without moving?
I would have no problem moving but only after securing some type of arrangement. Moving first without having anything is a big commitment.
My questions relates to Girls but tips would be the same for both sexes.

Any ideas?

Its very difficult to do here in Australia, unfortunately. My only solution is to move to a Metro centre(preferably Sydney or Melbourne) and trial with some of the bigger clubs.

One of my closest mates grew up in Wachope, Nth NSW, and was very talented, but was never really noticed by the then SA. He eventually spoke with a big Sydney football club who moved him to Western Sydney(with his mother and sister), where we became mates and attended school together.

The advantage of the West Sydney club is that a Southampton scout saw him play for them and he was off to England at 18. He would have never gotten that opportunity had he stayed in a regional area.

Sorry if this doesnt help.

Good question.
My tips would be to keep a look out for tournaments around your area, often talent scouts will be at these, the Kanga Cup at Canberra is an example. Record videos and send them off to bigger clubs, if they like what they see they'll do what they can to secure someone.
If u truely think that the person in question has the potential then arrange a trial in a metropolitan club, you might not get in but you can be told what needs to be done and where you need to strengthen your game.

Hope this helps a bit

MOVE, simple as that, maybe send a few highlight vids to a few metro sides and go from there, they might invite you for a trial then its up to you to impress, if everything works out im shore they will look after you,

Just think of it as you would if you where at a night club, The hot pretty girl wont notice the guy sitting in the corner, She'l notice the guy that is dancing in the center of the dance floor,

You say you wouldnt move without having everything sorted already, sometimes you gota just gamble and prey things work out well,

In my capacity as an agency scout... I concur with all those who say "Move to the big city."

It's a big bite to take, but it's the best chance to be seen.

In Victoria, It Is Quite Easy to Get Noticed.

All You Have to Do Is During the 2010 Season Do The Following:

1. Play For a Club In the Closest Zone To You. E.g: Green Gully - West League
2. After the Season Is Finished, Try out for a Summer League Team.
3. Depending What League You Played In Is the Zone of Summer League Side, If you played in West League You Must Represent the West.
4. Victorian Scouts are Watching.
5. At the End of the Season, The Scouts Will Pick Certain Players to Represent Australia/Victoria In Competitions.

Thanks to all who contributed and the message is clear, you have to move to succeed. Although I was trying to get back to Sydney I have accepted a job transfer to the Newcastle region at the end of the year.

Next year I will do a follow up on this to see if it was the location or the player that wasnt up to scratch.

Sorry...cant help you there. I have buckleys experience in football in the Hunter.

If no one here can here you out, contact Northern NSW Football for some advice. They SHOULD at least get you started in the right direction.

A little confidence booster to use on her is to remind her that Cheryl Salisbury came out of Newcastle. Every little bit of encouragement helps at that age. Good luck.

Newcastle is a good region for development and camps. Cheryl Salisbury is currently in Newy as the rep for Nike and a development officer, but in terms of teams try all teams who have a team in the NBN league or whatever its called thesedays

spot on, i know football nsw has there own programs for talented players, They run them normally in the school holidays, i know for a fact that at the start of this week they had NSW state team get togethers, And alot of those players come from the hunter and surrounding areas so northen nsw would have there own player development. Just get in contact with them and they will show you the way. Like your questions on here u'l never know if you neva ask,

For that girl (and dont take this as the bible as I am more involved in the coaching of boys infact I have only ever coached 1 girl but she was a fucking amazing player especially considerring she is death) the best way I can think about finding a rep team would be to contact the Newcastle Jets about trials for the W-League or there W-League feeder clubs you can call them during business hours on (02) 4962 2755

Silvergale, in Newcastle, there is a new competition running, and is only in its first year (for females). I THINK, but don't quote me on it, that it might be a way of getting local girls into the W-League side. In it are some pretty decent clubs who also have mens teams in the NBN NNSW state league.

If you're interested in a link I can give you with the list of clubs and contacts etc, just PM me and I'll only be too happy to try and help out.
