I thought you were exaggerating, but then I looked it up and minimum wage in Australia is $14.74, which equates to $19.06 on today's exchange rate. Sucks to be in NZ.

I have family in Australia - they both work part time on minimum wage (or close to it) and comfortably raise three kids while paying off a mortgage. That just doesn't work here.

I plan to move over once I graduate, as an entry-level grad position in Australia pays the same as a position in NZ requiring 3 years of industry experience. CER makes it so easy for us to move over too.

Dual income part time minimum wage raising to kids paying off a mortgage is not, nor will it ever be 'comfortable'.
