I know Australians of Greek Heritage who can A)support Sydney Olympic AND B)An Aleague team and get this, their heads DONT explode from the bizzare paradox. They can also support both Australia and Greece at the World cup (in the very unlikely result that they play each other they might go for Greece but its a moot point, maybe their heads will explode on that one, who knows).

You on the other hand probably cant go for either the socceroos OR Greece because they play in a plastic competition that Sydney Olympic are not allowed to play in.

when it comes down to it, if the socceroos met greece at the world cup, deep down its either one or the other, i got alot of mates with italian heritage, and when aus played the azzurri at the wc 06 they were either gonig for italy or aus. i do know one mate that had his socceroos jersey on, and when italy scored he took it off and put his italian jersey on...that too me is just:oops:

and no i dont go for greece, and no i dont go for the socceroos.

NSW Premier League side Bankstown City FC was met with great news this month after receiving a $67,000 upgrade for its facilities in the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program.
The upgrade will see Jensen Park’s kiosk, change rooms and toilets given a fresh new look which will please the thousands of football players playing and training at the venue every week.

Under the grant conditions, Bankstown Council have stated that they will match the amount given towards Jensen Park to ensure all the planned works can be completed.

The funding comes as part of the NSW Government’s $35 million Community Building Partnership program.

Bankstown City FC’s Club Secretary Mendo Petkovski was delighted with the upgrade which would ensure Jensen Park being up to scratch with Football NSW’s requirements with venues.

“On behalf of the committee of Bankstown City FC we would like to thank Barbara Perry and Bankstown Council for securing the grant.

“It will truly make a difference to the aging facility at Jensen Park.

“As Bankstown City FC is a major stake holder at Jensen Park, and the only NSW Premier League club in the district representing Bankstown at the highest level, Bankstown City FC will offer to match the grant and council contribution to an equivalent value.

“This will go a long way in ensuring that the ground will be brought up to a standard that fully complies with the Football NSW requirements.

“It will also ensure the longevity of premier league football and pathways for players in the Bankstown region.”

WEST SYDNEY BERRIES

Presentation Season Launch

Friday 19th February @ Canterbury BMW

376-384 Canterbury Rd Canterbury

Tickets $90 per person Dress: Semi Formal

Our Youth Season Launch Dinner last Friday at Bankstown Sport Club was a great night. The new boys to the club and their parents were warmly welcomed by our President, Chris Mitrothanasis. The presentation of the players jerseys for each team was the highlight of the evening. I would like to thank our first grade players who made the presentations to the boys, Archie Kotsopoulos (First grade captain), Hamish Mclean, Dimitri Zakilas and John Tsironis.

Congratulations to all the boys who were awarded captaincy and vice-captaincy honours for their respective team. I am sure that the special captain arm bands custom made by STANNO, our new club outfit supplier, will be worn proudly in performing this important role.

U13 - Joshua Hewett (capt.), Amadou Keita (vice-capt.)
U14 - Stephen Papoutsis (capt.), Daniel Paino (vice-capt.)
U15 - Theodore Mavridis (capt.), Paul Georgiadis (vice-capt.)
U16 - Brian Griffin-Colls (capt.), Jawed Qasimi (vice-capt.)
U18 - Sam Cornish (capt.), Martin Vazquez (vice-capt.)

I also thank John Calleja (Head Coach), Mathew Ribarovski (Asst. 1st grade Coach & Youth Goal Keeper Coach), Tony Pace (U20’s Coach & Senior Technical Director) for coming straight from a hard night of seniors training and giving their support for the night.

This is not just a special night for the boys but provides a great opportunity for the coaches, committee members and club officials to meet and chat with all the parents in a relaxed and enjoyable social environment. I wish all the teams well in the coming season, and going on the results of the friendlies we have played so far, I think we can look forward to more good performances in the competition.

Unfortunately, we have had our youth friendlies cancelled for the last two weekends to play Sydney Olympic and Apia Tigers, respectively. This breaks the build up and momentum of our pre-season training at a critical time when the teams are preparing and fine tuning starting line- ups for the first comp game against Marconi.

We have one last friendly scheduled to play Macarthur Rams this Sunday 21 February @ Lidcombe Oval.

U20’s and First Grade will play Sydney United on the same day @ Lidcombe Oval, starting 5.00pm and 7.00pm

2010 NSW Premier League Media launch a success

NSW Premier League clubs, officials and the media united at the Pullman Hotel in Homebush for the season’s official launch on Thursday, February 18th.

The fine surroundings set the tone for a competition that continues to develop, whilst the professional approach by each club and their representatives epitomizes the magnitude of what is the NSW Premier League.

2010 promises to provide an evenly matched playing field with no clear outright favourite in the lead-up to Round 1.

The usual suspects in Sutherland Sharks, Bankstown City, Sydney United, Marconi Stallions and Sydney Olympic start each season with a strong case for a tilt at the title, though the consistency of Manly United could state their own claims for a strong league run.

The talking point of the launch was that of the Bonnyrigg White Eagles however who were given the task of being the team to beat after securing as many as twelve new faces for the new season while Blacktown City were deemed the ‘dark horses’ of the NSW Premier League.

During the course of the NSW Premier League media launch two special guests in the form of Central Coast Mariners young gun Panny Nikas and Sydney FC’s Head of Football Stefan Kamasz were interviewed by MC and Football NSW Executive Manager of Commercial Services Tony Peters about their involvements with the NSW Premier League.

Nikas has had the NSW Premier League to thank after coming up through the ranks as a promising youngster at Bankstown City, Penrith Nepean United and more recently the Sutherland Sharks.

“The NSW Premier League will always hold a special place with me as it was where I developed as a footballer and got noticed by the Central Coast Mariners.

“I had a great year with the Sutherland Sharks last year as we won the Waratah Cup and the Championship and this is something I will never forget.”

Nikas has been starring with the Mariners’ youth side skippering the squad and also got some game time with the senior squad.

While Kamasz was equally proud to have said that the NSW Premier League clubs played a pivotal role in the success of the current batch of stars in the National Youth League squad as well as a few in the senior side.

“When you look at our Under 20’s side you will see that the players are littered with NSW Premier League experience and we are proud of that.

“We are also happy with the connection we have with Football NSW as well as the NSW Premier League clubs in pushing forward the sport of football.

“I know that the NSW Premier League is a great competition with some great players and it assists with the development of our game here in Australia.”

Representatives from all 12 NSW Premier League clubs were on hand to chat to the media about their chances for 2010 and this is what they had to say.

Rockdale City Suns:

Louie Belevski (General Manager): “We are extremely delighted to be back in the NSW Premier League and I am sure that the club along with the players will be fighting and raring to go when round 1 commences. We have been waiting for this day for a while now so it is up to the club and players to cement a permanent spot as being part of the NSW Premier League for good.”

Peter Apolevski (Captain): “We will definitely be competitive this season, even though we have just come up from the Super League. We have had some good results in pre-season, and even though pre-season matches are not worth three-points, we have managed to build some confidence up to boost the confidence amongst the team.”

Manly United FC:

Phil Moss (Coach): “The team has lost a lot of experience with Spencer Prior and Matthew Bingley leaving. In recent seasons we have been tipped as a chance for the title, though I don’t think we figure amongst the top contenders. We have a number of younger faces coming in, so I feel that we will really have a challenge ahead of us this season.”

Craig Midgley (Captain): “I had a difficult season in 2009 with injury, though the hamstring is coming along nicely. With the assistant coaching role, I am looking forward to the challenge of working alongside Moss (Phil Moss) and hoping to take as much experience from the challenge as possible. On the field, I will be hoping to have an injury free run and give the best of myself to the team.”

Sutherland Sharks:

Robbie Stanton (Coach): “Our pre-season has been a little ‘up-and-down’ with a number of injuries disrupting our preparations. However, I have had the chance to look at a few of the younger boys and am pleased with their response. We obviously have lost a couple of key elements from last year with the likes of Brad Boardman and Panny Nikas –these boys are moving on to take a further step in their careers, and I wish them well.”

Nick Stavroulakis (Player): “We’ve come a long way in recent years, and the achievements of last season will be difficult to repeat this time around. The mentality at the club is a winning one, and with the new boys coming into the set-up, there has been no change to this. We will be working hard to challenge from the start to the finish, and we hope to be there at the business end of the season.”

Bankstown City:

Richard Luksic (Captain): “I’ve been at the club for a long time now and I am happy with what I have seen in the pre-season. We’ve had some additions to the team, and at this point, I am confident that we can really put in a big challenge for a successful year.”

Peter Tsekenis (Coach): “We have a fairly mixed squad in-terms of youth and experience. A number of the Under 20s players have made the step-up and I am pleased with what they have shown in pre-season. I am at 36 years of age, and really it is a week-to-week prospect. As so long as I can compete and help the team, then I am happy.”

Sydney United:

Ivo Bosnar (Player): “The entire group is really looking forward to the new season. We have kept the core of last season’s squad, with some very important additions, and the belief amongst the group is that we can go all the way. We finished first last season in the regular season which was fantastic, though in Australia the champions are determined by who wins the grand-final, so we will be out to go that step further this time around.”

David Zdrilic (Coach/Player): “I am looking forward to the challenge. Getting into coaching, I could not see a better club to start at than Sydney United. We have a great group of players, and I am really happy with what I have seen in this pre-season. I believe the entire group at my disposal is more than capable of a starting spot, and this will help the club achieve our objectives this season.”

South Coast Wolves:

Jason Trifiro (Player): “The set-up is looking good so far, I am looking forward to the season. The opinions of a lot of people were very negative last season after the club finished last, though it is a new start for us, and we will be out to change those opinions.”

Trevor Morgan (Coach): “We will be looking to make a mark this season, no doubt. We’ve got a number of young boys coming through, though the Premier League experience of Jason Trifiro and Lisandro Berbis will definitely help.”

Sydney Olympic:

Pat Marando (Coach): “It is an exciting time for the team. We are re-building and we do expect a lot from ourselves. A number of young boys are coming through which is always a positive, and with the experienced heads of Anthony Doumanis and Mark Bosnich, I am sure we will get the young boys up to the required level very quickly. For me personally, coaching the first team is an honour. There is pressure at a club like Sydney Olympic, though I enjoy it. If there were no pressure then there would be no point in being there.”

Anthony Doumanis (Captain): “I’ve been at the club since I was a kid and it really is important to me. Off the field we have had some positive news with the facilities we will be using, and this will translate onto the playing surface no doubt. Last season we perhaps lacked a little ‘mongrel’ in the middle of the park, though I believe we will be a much stronger side this time around.”

West Sydney Berries:

John Calleja (Coach): “Our immediate goal is to improve on last season. We have succeeded in keeping the nucleus of the 2009 squad and in the meantime adding some extra depth to the squad. We really improved last season, on 2008’s showing, and in 2010 we aim to reach the semi-finals. We have a structure that has been implemented at the club, and I feel that we are on the right track to achieve a top-four finish.”

Aheleas Kotsopoulos (Captain): “I love this club, and last year I was honoured for 400 appearances, which was a fantastic feeling. We’ve come a long way since we came back into the top-flight. We survived in the first season, and really showed signs of improvement last season. 2010’s goal is to reach the finals, and give it our best efforts.”

Marconi Stallions:

Lee Sterrey (Coach): “We will have an additional two African imports at the club this season, and we hope these boys can deliver some additional flair and flavour to our performances. It will be a difficult year for the team, especially in trying to emulate last season’s run. We have had some cuts to the budget and now have a smaller playing squad, which will make our job a little tougher, though we will be giving it our all. Nahuel Arrarte has moved to Korea for a year, and we do wish him the very best over there, even though without someone like him in the middle, my job will be a little harder to find an experience replacement to slot in.”

Bonnyrigg White Eagles:

Cliff Pointer (Assistant Coach): “We’ve kept six of last season’s squad and recruited twelve new players, keeping a good blend of youth and experience. The whispers around the traps have it that we are one of the favourites, though I wouldn’t pay too much attention to that. Each of the squads appear to have recruited well and are looking strong at this early stage, so I am expecting a level playing field with the competition to run down to the last round of the season. In all though, our boys are gelling well together at this point which is pleasing.”

Paul Cotte (Captain): “Our group is a great one which is gelling really well together, despite a number of changes to the team last season. It will be competitive for starting spots and this is great as it will have everyone in the squad fighting for a starting spot. This will certainly give us a good chance of going far this year and doing well.”

A.P.I.A Tigers:

Luke McGuire (Coach): “Last year we finished in eleventh-spot, and our goal is obviously to improve on that this season. We too have included a number of young boys coming through the ranks which is something this club prides itself on. Realistically, at this point, our objective is to finish in the top-half of the table.”

Nick Rizzo (Player): “I came into the NSW Premier League competition, and I have been surprised with the good standard of play. Physically, the boys are all very strong, and I believe that a number of the players in the competition could walk into an A-League squad. Our situation looks positive with the young boys coming in, and the likes of Marton Vass and Paul O’Grady joining the club, so we will be aiming to improve on last season’s campaign.”

Blacktown City:

Aytek Genc (Coach): “I wouldn’t say our team will be a top-three side, though I feel that we will make life difficult for every team in the competition. We’ve got some experienced heads who will assist greatly with the young boys coming through the ranks, and I am sure we can reach our objective of a top-five finish. I enjoy coaching, and coming back to Blacktown City is a great feeling for me. We have had much success here in the past, and with the wonderful development model at the club, I believe we can aim high over the coming

NSW Premier League Round 1 Preview
23.02.10 08:57

The wait is finally over as the 2010 NSW Premier League season commences this weekend in what promises to be an entertaining first round of the competition.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles open proceedings on Saturday evening against ‘new boys’ South Coast Wolves at Bonnyrigg Sports Club. The White Eagles have been tipped as a serious contender following a strong off-season both on the playing field and on the transfer market. Coach Brian Brown will be eager to unleash new striker Brad Boardman from the opening whistle, meanwhile new signings Shane Webb, Daniel Severino and Vuko Tomasevic will each be raring to go for their new club.

South Coast Wolves will be out to change the opinions of many on-lookers in 2009 that saw Wollongong Community FC finish last on the League ladder. Coach Trevor Morgan has assembled a relatively young group, though will be looking at the Premier League experience of Lisandro Berbis and Jason Trifiro to mount a challenge on Saturday evening.

Across at Marconi Stadium, last season’s grand-finalists Marconi Stallions open their 2010 campaign against West Sydney Berries. The Stallions have faced a difficult preparation for the new season with a smaller playing squad and their two new African imports Aguy Tape (Cameroon) and Ali Yamgue (Ivory Coast) missing the entire pre-season, though coach Lee Sterrey will be expecting a lot of new signing Matthew Hall and rising star Daniel Ott. The club was dealt with tough news though that their inspirational skipper Nahuel Arrarte has decided to part company with the squad and move to Korea where he was snapped up by K-League outfit Chunam Dragons.

The Berries on the other hand enter season 2010 with much expectation on their shoulders. The squad made a huge leap forward under coach John Calleja in 2009, narrowly missing out on a finals berth. The side, again to be marshalled by experienced captain Aheleas Kotsopoulos, has maintained the core of last season’s squad, though with the addition of some very experienced campaigners has improved greatly the depth across the park. An exciting opening match is expected on Saturday evening.

On Sunday evening, Sydney Olympic meets defending champion Sutherland Sharks at Belmore Sports Ground. The Blues lacked ‘mongrel’ at times in 2009, and despite the heavy favourites tag at the start of last season, failed to reach the finals series. New boss Pat Marando is convinced his newly assembled group – which possesses a fine mix of youth and experience – will be a different team in 2010. Olympic will have to do the 2010 season without former Socceroo keeper Mark Bosnich who has retired from the game but has become one of the club's new directors.

The Blues will need to get out of the blocks quickly as Sutherland Sharks are eager to re-live the fine achievements of 2009. Robbie Stanton has lost a number of key elements from the 2009 Premiership winning squad, none bigger than Brad Boardman and Panni Nikas, though the additions of Ben Vidaic and Scottish import Steve McConologue promise to provide the Sharks with a wealth of experience. In the opening ‘official’ match of the season, the Blues carry the home ground advantage, though the Sharks led by George Souris will certainly prove a tough opponent to overturn.

At Jensen Park, Bankstown City will be all guns blazing to get one over their 2009 elimination semi-final nemesis, Manly United FC. Bankstown has lost a number of experienced players from last season’s squad, including the likes of Shane Webb and Phillip Makrys, though player/coach Peter Tsekenis will be hoping to find goals from new signing Almir Dizdaric in-front of the Lions home crowd.

Manly United FC enters the campaign perhaps a little under-done in comparison to previous seasons with the loss of a number of senior players in the off season. Coach Phil Moss will be hoping to cause what would be an opening day upset in case of a win on Sunday, though will require his experienced heads to lead a relatively young group of players into battle.

Blacktown City FC welcomes back Aytek Genc to the senior coaching role on Sunday as the team plays its first official match at the newly named Lily Homes Stadium. Blacktown City FC has performed well in pre-season, and despite the hype surrounding this ambitious side, all personnel on board know that the task at hand will be a tough one. The Blacktown outfit welcomes A.P.I.A Leichhardt Tigers in a match where both sides will rate their chances of success.

The Tigers finished 2009 on a downer will a low-table finish, raising expectations around the club for a much better showing in 2010. Franco Parisi and Robbie Younis are expected to find the goals this season, though the influence of Nick Rizzo out of midfield could well be the telling tale for the visitors on Sunday. The home side will be eager to unleash the talent of experienced midfielder Luke Roodenburg who returns to the club following two seasons away from the NSW Premier League competition.

In the final match of the opening round, 2009 first past the post winners Sydney Unitedn opens its campaign with a home clash against the newly promoted Rockdale City Suns from the Super League competition. The Reds will unleash David Zdrilic in his new role of player/coach, as the side remains relatively strong with the core of the 2009 side unchanged at Sydney United Sports Centre. New signings Michael Cindric, Peter Zorbas and Shane Lyons promise to provide Zdrilic with many selection headaches this season as the Reds, on paper at least, appear to field the most established squad in the competition.

For the new boys, Rockdale City Suns, there couldn’t have been a more difficult tie in their opening match to the competition than this trip to Edensor Park, though the morale across the group following pre-season appears to be high. Pece Apolevski will carry much of the responsibility on his shoulders this season with his speedy runs down the right-flank certain to provide the Suns with much flair throughout the campaign, though the opening round tie is certainly going to be a stern test on Sunday.

Most likely due to the SFC vs Melbourne game at the SFS on the 7th.

Should be a bigger crowd on a Saturday night at Belmore as well.

NSW Premier League Website Launched
23.02.10 18:15

The 2010 NSW Premier League competition has been given a fresh new facelift with the launch of its new website - www.nswpl.com.au
Features such as the NSW Premier League tipping competition, weekly reports, news, previews and reviews, photo galleries from weekend’s matches, individual NSW Premier League club sites with player statistics and player rosters for 2010 are just some of the many new innovations shown on the newly launched website.

One major element featured on the new NSW Premier League website is the video component whereby on a week to week basis, a match of the round highlights game will be uploaded and screened with the focus on all 12 clubs being shown in the first eight weeks of the competition.

On other developments, Football NSW has also created its very own YouTube channel which can be viewed on www.youtube.com/nswpl

come on mate lets me realistic here.

i am a Sydney United fan but those figures are just

bonnyrigg never had over 3k at any match...they will get roughly close to 2k for that match.

marconi v berries seems about right.

Sydney Olympic over 3.5k, we will wait and see but i can only see roughly 2k

bankstown v manly seems about right

blacktown will get abit more then that.

as for SU getting 3.5k, no chance, last season we only managed that once, and that was against sydney fc in a friendly where we easily reacher over 4k. our most last season was 2k when we played marconi and olympic...

i predict we will get between 700-1200 like we normally do.

this is coming from a realist point of view.

i judge the hype around the clubs in their inner circles and come up with these accurate examples

Speaking to two of my serb mates who live at bonno club all the talk season pass sales etc, going to be a big one for the serbs.

In regards to sydney united wait for it the croatians are jealous of olympic hype and dont want to be outshown.

Well be a big round, the NSWPL has never seen anything like this before
