I noticed something innovative (almost radical) happened in another thread (or rather 'to' another thread).

The title of the thread was 'The one and the only Sydney Olympic'.

It was moved from this section (the Australian Football section) to the Grass Roots football section, basically because it dealt with a NSW State League club and fair enough.

Nobody would disagree with the principle behind that decision and that action (apart from the few Olympic supporters I suppose).

Some of us (including myself) would even say "about friggin time".

About friggin time, in fact, that a thread that uses the good name of an old state league club as a means of creating the impression there's an "us vs them" war out there between A-League and State League fans, was at long last removed from this section.

Let's hope future threads dealing with the affairs of other state league clubs, (SMFC is one that comes to mind) will be treated the same way and removed from the Australian Football section as well, otherwise supporters of Syd. Olympic could rightly claim there's one rule for one and another rule for others at play.

The only reason I mention SMFC is because in the 3 years I have been visiting 442's Australian Football section, there have been many threads using the good name of this club to create the impression of ongoing divisions, unhappiness and bitterness among football fans in this country since the inception of the A-League, but to my knowledge such threads have never been moved from this section to the Grassroots section.

'What's good for the goose is good for the gander' some Olympic supporters might be saying in the future.

PS: I extend a very Happy New Year to everyone here, friends, foes, absolutely everyone. I hope Australian football has improved on and off the field in leaps and bounds by this time next year. Amen. [-o< :d

Yeah, thanks for that, We'll do our best to put threads in the rightful location, now I've just got to figure out where to put this one.

It is absolutely nonsensical to put any thread to do with the second tier of Australian Football in the Grass Roots category. Grass Roots football is junior and amateur football and always has been.

Oh, by the way, I don't hold a torch for any club. As a teenager I was in the unfortunate position to be watching my mates play 1st Division football in NSW on a few occasions when hot headed crowds from certain clubs rioted. That behaviour is unacceptable in this country and any club that condones it under any circumstances has no place in the football community in my opinion.

I think State League football belongs in the Australian Football section as it is our second tier.

Maybe we need a new sub-forum. Second Tier Australian football?

Why bother. Most of the players come through there so an educated discussion about Australian football has to include them.

I don't think I said anything offensive or provocative in my initial post.

I just stated that I agreed with the decision and the action taken by the mods in regards to that thread and expressed my wish that future threads dealing with state league clubs' issues should be also moved from the Australian Football section to the Grass Roots section.

My intention was not to upset anyone by stating the obvious.

I have always thought the Australian Football section was for discussing our particular A-League club's and other A-League clubs' issues and also everything to do with the Australian National team and not the state league clubs' affairs.

Am I wrong in thinking (and believing) that?

The problem though is that we have all seen your form in the past.

In the process of highlighting the way certain threads descend into bickering, you firmly pointed the finger in the direction of those who tend to do the bickering... More to the point, you started a thread for the specific point of doing this.

If you agreed with the transferring of the thread to the Grass Roots section, perhaps saying so on the thread would have been the way to go.

If you believe the moderators should switch any thread about a state league side to grassroots, then perhaps a comment in the feedback thread? Which is where this thread is going now.

Cheers.

Happy new year TOB's

Currently as it stands the main categories are Australian Football - Grass Roots etc etc

Where does it state that affairs concerning Sydney Olympic amonst others should be in grass roots

I am a believer that a thread of a state league club demonstrating ambition and policy that potentially can make a contribution to the game should be on Australian Football

Your argument suggests that anything outside of the HAL should not be in Australian Football - this obviously includes threads about HAL Youth and womens which is ludicrous

Unless there are clear categories such as HAL - State Leagues - Womens etc etc (which means rebuilding the whole forum) then leave it as it is and let the moderators make the call

At the end of the day we all know your pet hate is seeing a thred about smfc reach 15+ pages, come on admit it - be a man

This. 90% of SMFC threads in the past have actually been conducive to discussion - unlike the aforementioned Olympic thread whose opening post was akin to "\:d/". Said threads deserve to be banished to the abyss of the forum.
