Been watching Bolton all season and i have no confidence in him. Too many saves he makes end up as a loose ball. Simple high balls he lets slip in his fingers, he doesn't come off his line with any conviction, he doesn't have command of the box, too many of his kicks are high balls to nowhere or out.
Watching up close the sure handedness and attack at the ball of Covic and the half-hearted butter finger attempts of Bolton in the derby was cringeworthy. Nearly did it again tonight when he dropped a simple high ball.

Every shot from a distance he doesn't hold. Last night look at the number of times he had to scurry to get a second bite, or when he let a moon ball run through his fingers, or when he just watched a shot hit his far post. Plus he is indecisive when coming out for the ball. And he lacks communication with his defenders. If Bolton and Covic's roles were reversed, Bolton would have copped about 4 goals in the derby. Plus he had a few heart-in-month moments all of his own making. IMO that says as much about how poor Bolton is as how good Covic was. In this league, I'd rate him at the bottom fighting it out for last place with Moss. And where can we get someone better? Well Victory pulled Langerak out of the State League, didn't they, now they have the young reserve. We need to look harder because the keepers are out there and no way is Bolton up to go another season.

Bolton will go another season at the most i think, but you're right we really need to get a good keeper because i can't see Roganovic or Mattei as being solid keepers. They're good for backup

Langerak came out of the a.i.s, Roganovic is the best we could do out of the state league and he isn't a-league quality so yes we will need to search high and wide in the next year or 2 for Boltons replacment

Impressive goal from Sibon. Sibon was a marquee player, who I recall wanted more money then the club were prepared to offer. Maycon was a cheap buy and it was probably thought he might lift the performances of our other two Brazilians. Also, despite the quality of that goal I'm not sure Sibon had the fitness we needed. I personally don't think we would of got good value out of him for a second season given his age of 37.

I thought I read Sibon accepted a pay cut, but we said no because of his age and risk of injury.
Yet we have younger players like Terra, Worm, Fred, Kalmar, Taseski who will end up unavailable in somewhere between 30-50% of the time. Shows its not just about age.
Seems like Terra's never really been fit since he got here (wiki says he's played a lot of games, doesn't seem like it). I think he will be feeling the pressure to earn an extension at the end this season.

I think he will be feeling the pressure to earn an extension at the end this season. Sibon said last year he wanted to play 1 more year with heart and he would have accepted a pay cut. Would have been perfect to be honest, because at the end of this season the visa spots will go to 3+1 so to have sibon for another year it would have been great. Even though he was old, he only missed 3 matches last season! some players just hardly ever get injured and sibon was one of them. I would've had him as a target man up front, and even if Babalj was to play ahead of him, wouldve loved to have someone like sibon on the bench. He is the type of player who can definitely change games, not to mention one of the most dangerous free kick takers in the league. The combination of him and fred could have been very dangerous.

Was the right call if we could have gotten a better CF than Maycon.
I have big hopes for Babalj though.

Exciting times to be a Heart fan. Hopefully the many fans we apparently have (just look at our Facebook page) start coming to games.

Just a note on the Morwell game: apparently Heart are organising shuttle buses to and from the train station. Hoping we get a fair bunch on the train down and back, as it could be a good atmosphere onboard.

So with the following players available for selection, would you select them all, or call someone up from the youth team?
Clint Bolton Michael Marrone Brendan Hamill Simon Colosimo Fred Matt Thompson Rutger Worm Kristian Sarkies Maycon Wayne Shroj Jonatan Germano David Williams Eli Babalj Adrian Madaschi Nikola Roganovic/Seb Mattei (Is Roganovic injured or what? Haven't heard anything about why he hasn't been on the bench for us)

As a Victory fan, i have to say that i am ridiculously pumped for the Derby. We have been playing crap, but slowly it seems like we are getting our shit together, and Heart have been playing some good Football, and have been unlucky with Referee decisions. I think it is a big game for both clubs in terms of where our respective seasons are at. And then theirs the atmosphere at Aami Park............. Should be one hell of a night.

Thrilled with this. First season in and the youth team are flying. I'm sure funding and starting up the youth team took away resources from the senior A-League team (and probably in large part explains our inexpensive but very smart signings this season), but its been money very well spent. John Aloisi keeps saying the youth team is about creating players fit for the A-League team, and I can't wait to see who in this successful youth team gets a promotion first.

Agree with everything you said, especially the last sentence. It'll be about a month since Heart fans were last in AAMI come the derby, and it really should be one hell of a night.

What a great weekend!
Pretty commendable job with the youth side considering the players haven't played togther before and Aloisi hasn't coached before.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the youth team are doing, considering it's our 1st season and MV have had a head-start of a few years. I can't understand how MV managed to perform so poorly in the NYL while MH come in 1st season and look the goods.

I can't understand how MV managed to perform so poorly in the NYL while MH come in 1st season and look the goods. Heart did an amazing job scouting and setting up the youth league team. They scoured regional Victoria well and even had open trials where many many kids were given a go. The players who were recruited were carefully picked and the results are just vindicating Heart's scouts and decision making overall. Aloisi must have payed good attention last season at the Heart, because the youth team are meant to play largely the same style that JVS has for the A-League team so they could readily play for the A-League team if they're good enough. Despite being a new coach Aloisi clearly hasn't tried to make up his own style/philosophy out of thin air, so by sticking to ideas similar to JVS he hasn't been out of his depth. Melbourne Heart Youth Team, No. 1! \:d/

Then a multiple goal win (like we shoulda done in round three save for poor shooting) in the derby!
