Yeah, I reckon we're a good chance of winning the World Cup tbh. The team is practically perfectly suited to the way my tactic plays, it's superb to watch.

2-2 away in Madrid. Good result. Probably won't cause the AI to get all angry and play like supermen.

Shit.
Got knocked out. They scored a 35 yard curler (rolleyes), and for some stupid reason I got distracted, and I thought I was ahead on away goals, my brain went "well, I'd scored 2 away goals, Real only have 1 now, so I'm winning. Basically let the game go past, only use one sub at half-time because of injury, and we didn't create anything. (1 shot on target all game).
The "Real Madrid are into the Final!" came as a surprise. Then I realised.
Fuck.
Probably wouldn't have done anything even if I'd chucked on everyone and played 3-4-3 or something.

With Wigan I signed Henok Goitom for 21 million. Is this a good signing? Plus when a youth player is old enough to receive a pro contract and in the report it says to offload the player, what do you do?

Just dominated our way into being Confed Cup champions. in our 5 games, we scored 10 (2 in each game, hows that for consistency), and conceded just 1. Played quality teams to, England in the Final, as well as France, South Korea, USA and New Zealand. This Mexican team is unstoppable, we're on a 10 game winning streak. It's hard to gauge how good you're playing when your opponents are Trinidad and Tobago, Honduras, Canada, etc, but the wins over England and France prove we're the real deal. We're going to the World Cup, and we're going to win the World Cup.

Got a DM. 25 million up front no clauses. I'd tried to get him for 15 million plus another 10 in clauses, but in the end realised it would probably end up costing more, so I just hit the release clause button and bought him straight up.
My entire transfer budget if required, for next season will be dedicated to getting a world class CB.

I got knocked out of the confed cup in a group stage last night with Uruguay, Russia and Australia /o\
Won the 1st match against Russia 2-0, then lost 2-1 to Australia (26 shots for me, 2 for them, go figure). Final game vs Uruguay.
Australia beat Russia, so if I had to beat Uruguay to go through on GD along with Australia.
Put in a repeat performance of the Australia game. Spent the entire match battering them (this is after they had a straight red 10 minutes in), 22 shots all game, only 6 on target, scored a single goal in the 80th minute.
93rd minute, my striker tries to dribble past their defence instead of going to the corner, loses it, ball gets hoofed upfield, they cross into the area, where my DM tries to clear it, instead he manages to rebound it off my DC and we go out with a 94th minute own goal.
Christ. This isn't the first time I've had teams just dominate the crap out of other teams, yet only manage a goal with 25-35 shots, with only a handful on target. It's happened with Bolivia, the US, Nigeria, Scotland and England. Had about 45 shots to 6 over the last 2 games, yet got outscored 3-2.
Final Standings end up Uruguay Australia England Russia
I didn't get sacked though.
In FC United news. I spent 90 million on 3 players.
The DC I wanted cost 45 million upfront before the board stepped in, the DM cost 25 million, and a DRC in a more backup role will cost 20 million all up.
However, I resolved my current MC's problem. I'd transfer listed him and had a couple of bids accepted for 30 million, before noticing a news item about another potential transfer bidder for him saying he didn't want to leave. I offered him a big new contract, and he stayed.
I've sold 6 players, along with another 4 or 5 who went during the end of last season. I used the "international game clause" exploit to put a 10 million for 1 game clause on one of them (who was only worth 2 million), and a 20 million for 1 game clause on a 2nd player who was worth 4 million. So that's 30 million after my next England game.
I sold my then 3rd choice AMRL for 20 million mixed in clauses, and another 13 million or so from 3 other backups.
All up: Bought - 90m Sold - 69m although I won't see all of that for a while, even after the England game in a month.
My assistant feels we are "weak in defence". This is after spending 90 million on defensive players. The entire team is 4 stars.
I've pared the entire squad down to 23 players (plus another 3 on loan who I can recall if needed), so I'll be looking to the scouts again to start re-filling the rosters.
I've also bought my maximum limit of 18 scouts, and switched from my positional based scouting system to a normal regional based, with 18 scouts you can cover every region, but I've left out a few of the least useful regions (parts of Africa mostly), and have 3 dedicated scouts for Italy, France and Spain. If another region turns up useless, I'll put a scout in Germany directly.

Fuck I just had one of those shitty annoying games. Versed Leeds in the league cup semi final, first leg, at home. They get a defender sent off in the 25th minute. They score in the 30th. I didn't go all out attack but close to it for the rest of the half. The second half I was all out attacking the whole time and had 5 men up front towards the end and they just packed men behind and we hit the woodwork billions of times. FMD. Gotta beat em in the second leg now. They 6th in the league and we are 8th.

Just bought Francesc Fabregas for 110 million pounds from Arsenal. Trust me he's worth it. Edited by marconi101: 14/6/2009 01:53:41 PM
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

The 18yo Danish regen I bought half a season ago has just won: * 2011/12 Danish U19 talent of the year * 2011/12 Danish Young player of the year * 2011/12 Danish player of the year (beat Bendtner and Agger)
And he's top scorer in the UEFA Cup & 2nd top scorer in the Bundesliga.

For that price you could probably come close to picking up Veloso, Kaka and Sneijder though.

Veloso just moved to AC Milan and they wouldn't budge to any offers, Kaka is 30 and Sneijder is at Real and they wouldnt sell him to Barca no matter what the bid. In the end Fabregas wanted to come to Barca so that helped in negotiating.

I don't really see it as having a "backup" more as I now have 4 "first choice" centre-backs ability wise, just that 1 of them was better than my current DL, and one of them is on the bench in-case I need a sub for DC or DR. Lost my 23 game unbeaten streak in all matches (and 16 in the League) against West Ham 2-0, with them playing 4-2-4 from the opening whistle  Their first goal being one of those stupid "run up the wing, run down the byline, manage to score on the near post somehow". Even when my players do that and score, I don't like it. The 4-2-4 junk just takes the cake though. Still, 15 games in, already 9 points ahead of Arsenal. We sit on 36 points, 11 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss, 32 for, 8 against. Qualified easily from our CL group (AC Milan, AZ and some other random team I forget). 6 wins, 18 points, 20 for, 1 against. Have the League Cup quarters coming up.

I played it like I normally do. Was a shit game. Both had less than 6 shots, they got lucky with a rebound for their 2nd, and there is nothing I can do about the first except watch as he goes past the ML (mr? I forget which wing), MC, LB and CB then beating the GK.

My favourite/most memorable individual match in FM was an Australia vs Japan match in the WCQ. I was managing Australia, we had a few poor games and the group was very tight, basically if we won we would qualify automatically in 2nd, and if we lost or drew we would be out (iirc the team in 1st lost to the team in 4th which put them ahead of us on GD making us 4th going into the match, with Japan in 2nd by 2 points meaning if we win we would end 2nd by a point, something crazy like that).
We traded a goal early, with half-time coming without many chances. At 60 minutes Japan scored from a corner, putting us 2-1 down. 20 minutes to go, I used my 2 subs to attack, and we equalised on 80 minutes. We hammered them over and over in the final period but couldn't knock the door down.
With hope fading 3rd minute of injury time, the keeper played a long ball up the field about 35 yards from their goal, their defender beat our striker in the air, but the ball looped high and fast right backtowards the goal. The keeper backtracked, but couldn't stop it from going just over his head, bouncing once and into the net for a 35 yard own goal, which took us to the WC, caused Japan to go into the play-offs, which they lost 5-0 to Saudi Arabia.
I couldn't believe it when I was watching it. It was amazing.
