Typical Joel Griffiths. You can't expect anything different. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Furious Griffiths Blasts Verbeek? JOEL Griffiths has launched a blistering verbal attack against Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek after being overlooked for the World Cup squad.Have your say.

Time to copy+paste from Joffa's post.
A part from the rage and abuse, he makes a fair point. Pim doesn't believe in Aussie football. And he has been extremely unfair to Joel. He's a great player and should've always been ahead of Archie Thompson in the Asian Cup qualifiers. What he's saying is justified. Pim didn't even give him a chance he didn't even give the man respect by watching him play. Let's not forget that Joel, like the glory trio, went overseas to boost his chances for the national team. If the new coach sees this I hope he will be able to see the point that he's making and not just think he's some arrogant prick chucking a tantrum. And just like the Glory trio he went overseas to boost his chances but instead, got ignored for 2 years.

The attitude of "entitlement" is very dissappointing, Joel needs to make his deeds do the talking, in such a resounding way that he can't be ignored. This complaining just puts him on the back foot with any coach that takes over from PIM. He needs to grow up.

How anyone could look up to this f*cking douchebag is beyond me.
He has no dicipline, he's less talented than EVERYONE in the SA squad, he's spits the dummy (this is case and point) EVERY time something doesn't go his way, he mouths off about anyone and everyone...then doesn't expect consequences, his work rate has constantly been questioned by national team coaches.
I guess that's what gets people wet in Newcastle though. Says a lot.
THANK GOD he'll never play for the Socceroos again!

He's a fuckwad and has proven it time and time again. No chance given? How many did he score against Ghana? He would be absolute poison in a team that thrives on esprit de corp (sp) and his sour grapes attitude and over inflated ego coupled with delusions of granduer has been his undoing again. Maybe he has some leftover valium stored up that he could use. Imagine him at the WC. Everyone would know his penchant for tantys and niggle him until he kicks them in the jatz crackers. We are down a man. We dont need his type anywhere near the Socceroo squad and that goes for the Asian Cup too.

Sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut. Sadly Joel hasn't in this case. The national coach (along with his assistants) is given the mandate to choose players that he feels are the best for the game or tournament at hand. If there was a player worthy of this playing in the A-League, he would have been in the squad. I believe that Pim Verbeek chooses a team around the players mentality as much as anything. It's the classic case of there is no "I" in team. I imagine that Joel Griffiths would have been considered but for various reasons he was past over. One of these would be his attitude. This petulant outburst probably only re-enforces this. What is sadder is that it probably marginalises him even more for future squads and under future coaches. irrespective of his ability or where he is playing.

He has played well, but fuck, in China? Who gives a shit. Reason he didn't get picked is simple. He is not as good as those that did. That's why he is in China . . . not Europe or a decent Asian comp. Our other strikers come up against better defenders each week, in better leagues, and score as well. Joel takes on Chinese defenders, in a pretty shit league. Reap what you sow. Should have woke up a long time ago and pulled his head in. I think this article highlights one reason he wasn't picked. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/News/128890,verbeek-hails-ego-free-roos.aspx

Herein lies the reason why Joel won't be going - total unprofessionalism. Put aside for a moment whether Pim was right or wrong, Griffiths has come out and said Pim likes "brown noses" in the SMH or words to that effect, effectively insulting all those players who were picked. Good luck in getting an Asian Cup berth because the new coach, whoever it is, will run a mile from that attitude. And for what it's worth the guy has always been a potential red card walking.

The valid point is his poor attitude. Imagine that kind of influence in a world cup squad. You don't want someone with that type of attitude in any elite squad. Pim would be well aware of his loose cannon attitude. Word gets around fast. Now he has just dug his own grave.

Let's be realistic here Joel, you were never going to the WC but in saying that his speaking the mind of im sure plenty of other players who keep getting overlooked.
I hope the new man in charge gives these players a decent chance so we can actually all see for ourselves that theyre not capabale instead of 1 mans opinion.

What do you expect him to do? Just shutup and take it from this dull nonetity of a coach who thankfully after the WC will disappear into the lower echelons of Moroccan youth football.
It isn't just the fact that Verbeek disregards players like Griffiths, Bosnar and Ognenovski, its the utterly disrespectful way that he does it. There is no excuse for that.

I can see why he is upset he didn't even get a look in with the A-leagueroos for the Asian cup games and all, but this kind of behavior is just added reason why Pim didn't want him there. His attitude is appalling, and it doesn't matter how good he has been playing - he would disrupt team harmony.

It isn't just the fact that Verbeek disregards players like Griffiths, Bosnar and Ognenovski, its the utterly disrespectful way that he does it. There is no excuse for that. Pim told him what to do - work on his defence. When Joel loses the ball he will either dive or sulk. What Pim was after was someone to hassle up front - i.e. defend from the front. Joel, not the sharpest tool in the shed, said he didn't understand what he meant. Why not ask? Also he was in the squad in 2009 - why didn't he ask then? Take a bit of ownership. To be honest I thought he was no chance for the World Cup - but a reasonable shot for the Asian Cup - particularly since the Asian comps are suspended. If I was the new manager I would look at this outburst as confirming Pim's decision.

First off - I just want to apologize in advance if what I am about to type has already been covered - I haven't read all the comments (yet) Secondly - Lest me just say, I for one actually don't mind Griffiths (and his brothers) from a footballing point of view. Now, in saying that, I don't care for his attitude all that much, as IMO he comes across very arrogant/big-up-himself etc. Now, I wonder if his attitude had something to do with being over looked rather then his football? Especially after reading Pim's comments about how "Ego-Free" - non Dutch his players are, and how highly he thinks of that.

I cannot believe some of the vitriol being directed at Verbeek here.
Compare Joel to his brother Ryan, who I should point out has played overseas for longer and had more Socceroos caps. Verbeek hasn't selected him either. Has Ryan thrown the dummy spit? Of course not. Does his omission make headlines? No.
Joel's in this for Joel, and that's precisely why I couldn't give a fuck if he was excluded even IF he was good enough for the squad. Which, I should point out, he's NOT.
Verbeek has omitted guys like Joel in the Asian Cup qualifiers because he was casting a wider eye around the league and the lower Euro-roos. He evidently knew what Griffiths was capable of, decided it wasn't really that useful, and chose to look elsewhere.
I don't fucking blame him.

Amazing... a bloke who isn't even on the coaches long list let alone his short list complains that he doesn't get a phone call. The last time he was in a squad was over 2 years ago and he was sent back to his club before the match because he wasn't as good as other players in what was basically an A-League squad if I recall correctly.
I just checked the squad out and my recollections weren't as good as I thought. :) He was sent home along with most of the other A-League players and the overseas players were preferred in the final squad instead.

Wish FFT and other sites would stop asking for or publishing this guys ego driven rants. They get comments and hits, but your just servicing the tools needs.
He can play, he's an ok footballer in regards to Australian football, but he's no superstar worthy of the publicity for mine.
Hopefully this is his last toolish whinge that is reported and we can all move on. I doubt it though.

ok Im going to to a Kevin Rudd and try to translate the above "Support Joel! No one in Beijing did not support him, fans love him! He did not enter the national team, is very unfair to him, as he said, like, you coach not concerned about him not playing in China's performance, even in Australia for all! Australia striker Bi Qiaoer good now? Maybe! But I would like the ability Joel definitely better than those three other poor person! On the front with 3? You Niu B!"

Congrats to all 31 boys who made the squad. Some good players missed out that's football. Perhaps Joel was not ready to play in 'BEIJING HEAT' like conditions. Soon Pim & G.A will trim the squad from 31 to 23. That's 8 more who are not 'BEIJING HEAT' ready. Then there will be wave after wave of Serbian, Ghanain & German attacks and just about everyone will be not 'BEIJING HEAT ready. Hang on....Tim CAHILL will be because I think he's the only one injury free....Oh, but they'll man mark him out of the game anyway. Still we are there lets enjoy.

Reckin Pim saw this coming and Joel - this is why you didn't get a jersey - its not just about playing football - I can see Pim asking - "Joel - how would you handle disappointment in not making the 1st 11 against Germany?" F Off Pim I'm great you can't drop me my ego could not handle it

"but not even having the respect or courtesy to take 30 seconds out of your day to call (hurts)."
Well, do you expect that Pim calls every world cup hopeful and says "sorry mate, you didn't make it cause your not good enough, try next time".
Or in Joels case: "The reason your not in my team is because your a wanker and play in a rubbish league. Your terrible on the field and the only fans you have are those blindly ignorant Newcastle Jet ones. Your ego is too big and I doubt that the next Australian coach will even consider you next time around."

His only cap under Verbeek was against Ghana two years ago! Since then there has been loads of A-League players capped in Asian qualifying matches, many more than once. Would he expect Verbeek to phone the likes of Jamieson, Shannon Cole, Corthwaite, David Williams and Mitch Nichols to tell them that they didn't make the cut? lol.

Doesnt deserve to go due to other players form??? who's in top quality form? Vidosic...Carle...j North...half the team isnt even playing!!! I dont really like Joel, but when u are scoring week in week out somewhere, u deserve a look in, however politics in football again win out! Unlucky joel, same can be said about Bosnar, and players like Madaschi and OG, that have been in form all season long.

Pim doesn't rate China as any better than the A League & he told Nicky Carle not to go there. Joel has been playing good there especially in the asian Champions League, but not better than the other strikers in the national squad. Joel does himself no favours with these comments & he will be viewed with suspicion for future Australian squads.

I think he has an attitude problem which precluded him from being picked in the first place. I don't think this is going to help mate.

Soccer in Oz is so f%ckin boring. Thank F%ck for Griff telling us how it really is. Without characters like Joel on and off the park you would all be snoring and this wouldn't be a 10 page forum. Joel makes a valid point here..... PIM is a dumb person that does not give a sh!t about Oz football. He and the coaching staff have let OZ down but not even considering Joel, Ognenovski & Bosnar... Get rid of the Dutch C % N T now...

Quote: this seems a little suss... who emails that sort of comments to a newspaper? Not even joel griffiths is that stupid!!! surely this was a private conversation gone public... It probably was. But regardless of that an ouburst to whomever it may be is not the way to get yourself into the squad or back in favour with the coach. Now that this information is out in public his international career could well be over, should future coaches become aware of his temper. Quote: Soccer in Oz is so f%ckin boring. In some regard you're on the mark. But Joel has no place to rip into the national coach and talk shit the way he did. He should know better. There are far better ways to discredit Pim than that dummy spit. Yes, Pim is letting Australia down and has no interest in how well Australia do at the world cup. He gets paid already and wants to get out and move on to his next gig. Also, grow a pair and actually sware, we all know what you're saying so you're not hiding anything at all. Perhaps Joel should have let his boots do the talking on the occasions he was given, rather than his mouth now. There is many a good player in all sports who performs well at club level but for some reason is unable to make the step up to international level. Any comment now is just a further negative against his name. 3 chances at full international level is 3 wasted opportunities... though he did waste a lot more than just 3. Show some style son & zip it.

Joel's boots do the talking as well! My family is from the Netherlands and when I went to visit them 10 years ago I went out for dinner with a cousin and his friend in Amsterdam. The night ended with me almost wanting to punch my cousin's friend. His "honesty" to Australian sensibilities was tantamount to insults. Guus Hiddink seemed to have a better grasp of the Australian mentality but I don't think Pim does. Joel's reaction is understandable from my perspective. He feels he has been pre-judged without being given the chance to prove his worth and no Australian likes that. It should be part of a coach's job to relate to the culture of the country he is employed by. There have been many examples of Pim treading on our toes through the media. Look at today's Daily Telegraph with Pim telling us we can't win the World Cup. Let's get this clear about Australia. We tend to stay clear of certainties because we know that a person's true metal is brought out when times are tough. We don't arrogantly approach the World Cup like some other countries, and never will. We have self belief and hope. We know that our players will do us proud and they will write another proud chapter of Australian history. Our view of Gallipoli shows we can even turn defeat into victory. The Rats of Tobruk show that Australian ingenuity should never be underestimated. Good on you Joel. I know how you feel. Sometimes I want to just punch Pim in the face too.

Sackwack might be public enemy #2 for a CCM supporter, but he has every right to an opinion and is free to air it. None of this stiff upper lip and take it on the chin crap associated with being a silent aussie.
Give me a break. Doesn't even look like Pim considered him, why ? I don't get it.
- He's a striker that is playing regularly and scoring in the Chinese league. He gave a lowly A-league team the runaround in the ACL. - He's great at deadball (and other ball) situations. I remember him crucifying teams wit his freekicks. - and is any striker worth considering if he doesn't have some sort of attitude. Couldn't you see him getting the face of a German defence which has had problems of late.
And all people can say is - Brosque was unlucky to get the nod. Sorry but Sackwack has it all over Brosque - that is, unless we want someone who speciality is diving and appealing to the ref.
Never mind Sackwack, you'll get the nod for the Asian Cup.

What a fantastic article. :)
I love it when players let their true feelings be known like that. :)
That attitude of his is probably the answer as to why Pim overlooked him.

What ingredients would you put into a cocktail drink to honour the Socceroos? I think the Socceroos need an Official Cocktail in honour of their achievements......How would you make the drink? http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/force-factor-review-amp-free-trial-2113761.html

I agree that JG is a very good player by A-League standards (I've watched him tear the Mariners apart more than once) but who could he have knocked out of Verbeek's squad? Kewell? Kennedy? McDonald? Rukavytsya? Vidosic? I don't think so, and (probably) not all of those will make the plane. JG's probably got a point about the extent to which he was considered and how he found out about his exclusion, but he's dreaming if he reckons he gets picked ahead of anyone actually in the squad.

Contrast Griffiths outburst to that of Eddie Bosnar. Maybe the fact that Bosnar got a phone call and Griffiths didn't is the reason , maybe not , but if what Bosnar said about Arnold is true ,(something along the lines that bosnar would never be picked in an aussie team while arnold had any say ),it could apply to any number of players not given a chance to impress.

Because the aussie national team is Pim's mates club. It's a waste of time and embarrassing to view from a neutral perspective.

I believe that the strikers such as Griffith,Josh K.,etc look great on paper with their goal feats but they are not really tested by big bustling, strong centre backs in Europe competition but shine in the Asian leagues with height and weight advantage. The world cup is not the place to be found wanting!Josh K.in my opinion is NOT the solid target man that Australia need but would be best suited to striker support for a centre forward or an attacking mid.

You are a douche Joel, with this kind of attitude you dont deserve a spot, maybe i should send you a copy of the Harry Kewell interview that was recently on 60 minutes, thats the kind of talent and gentlemen we want in our squad and representing our Country, not spoilt little no talent hacks who loyalty leaves alot to be desired and just chases the quick buck, stay in China we dont eva want you back.
