Subiaco is not going to be upgraded. It is going to be torn down and rebuilt. Which is a complete mistake. I think they should build a new one in Perth and keep subi.

As long as we have cricket venues listed, were not getting anything. I'd be embarassed to bring the footballing world to stadiums that were never built for the sport.
Imagine seeing the fixture list with the final Team A v Team B - Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Blacktown is a mistake. South west area is the best place. They have lost the southern corridor now.

The population projections for the North Western area centred on Blacktown for 2021 is 945,000 and for the South Western area from Liverpool through to Wollondilly is 593,00. The numbers have it for Blacktown and the South West will have to wait. Edited by gyfox: 16/5/2010 09:08:57 PM

Don't tell me: all three will be oval-shaped and will be shared with the eggball codes, meaning the pitches will be turned into horse paddocks. with With some Rugby player's names on the stadia, with statues of some bull-neck neanderthal at the entrances.
The 4 week circus will come and go, but there is nothing being left for OUR game after OUR World Cup that we can call OURS.

Gyfox,
That doesn't make alot of sense since the new release growth areas in the south is 1.5 times larger then the north. Campbelttown and Blactown have been competing for the fastest growth areas in Australia now for some years.
My point more being that the southern corridor does not have easy access to stadium where as Blacktown has access (better then the southern corridor) to ANZ/Parramatta stadiums.
Building yet another stadium up there "north of the parramatta river" doesn't really make much sense.

The 4 week circus will come and go, but there is nothing being left for OUR game after OUR World Cup that we can call OURS. :-s Blacktown is going to be rectangular so that GWS haven't got a facility at Blacktown unless the AFL pay for it themselves because the NSW State Govt. won't fund a facility for GWS. Perth is going to be a multi purpose facility, more like ANZ Stadium than a bigger fancier Subiaco, they probably needed a multi purpose facility like this to get funding from the WA Govt. to build it. Canberra will be a rectangular stadium apart of the AIS facilities... it's most likely that the current Canberra stadium will be redone to be created into a AFL ground possibly and that the new Canberra stadium will be used by the Canberra A-League side and the League and Rugby teams... the facilities will probably be used by Rugby codes but i think if we're getting a new facility and it's being used by an A-League team and International matches (i.e Perth will now get International matches now because of this multi purpose facility because they have the facilities) Quote:Blacktown Stadium will proly be built near the Kellyville/Hills district where all the growth/development is, far from the house-o's, lebs & troublemakers in Bankstown that's like saying that the England 2018 bid shouldn't have a ground in Liverpool or in the East End area near West Ham where the new Olympic Stadium will because they're touted as problem areas for crime... pffffft

The NSW Planning Department issued population predictions for all NSW Local Government Areas and Regions on 6 April 2010. The South West Region including Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly will have a population of 452,000 in 2011 growing to 593,000 in 2021. The North West Region including Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Baulkham Hills and Blacktown will have a population of 801,000 in 2011 growing to 945,000 in 2021. If you look at the projections out to 2036 the North West will still have a population 281,000 greater than the South West. What is needed in a World Cup venue other than capacity is transport access/parking and FIFA's required VIP, Hospitality and Commercial villages. The Blacktown site is ideal in this regard being located immediately next to a railway line and a motorway and only 2km from the intersection of the major north/south and east/west motorways with ample space for parking and FIFA's village requirements. Looking at the development of Orana Park, now Campbelltown Stadium, the South West region has the makings of a very good stadium. It now has a capacity of 20,000 with 13,500 seats while in the early 80's it was not much more than a paddock. With further government funding it will become the equal of Bluetongue and Hindmarsh Stadiums and be more than adequate for a "Macarthur' A-League team. I lived in Ruse throughout the 80's and I have a soft spot for the town but for a World Cup venue the numbers and other factors don't stack up as well as Blacktown. Now if you look at it from a Rugby League viewpoint you might come up with a different answer but this is a Football development for the World Cup. PS. The Blacktown Stadium is also perfectly located to make use of Football NSW's Valentine Sports Park and Riverstone West Academy developments as training venues for World Cup teams.
