On that performance, I think Australia would have at least drawn with Uruguay. But full credit to them, they held it together against France and got the result here, hope they can line up a big Round Two battle against arch-rivals Argentina! That would be a great test for Diego's boys. Uruguay completely dominated this game. South Africa just were not allowed to play, they restricted them to nothing. Everytime they attacked we would just shut them down. I think South Africa's first shot on target was in the 68th minute. And, Uruguay and Australia are not in the same group. So why on earth are you comparing them? I for one though, hope they don't play Argentina any time soon. Quote: Did that first goal take a deflection or just dip wickedly? I thought it dipped...
It took a deflection, but it was still an incredible shot.

kinda sucks to be in that group as the home team..no doubt if Australia ever gets the WC we will get France,Germany,Brazil in our group. The South Africans really love the game though so I imagine they will take the rough with the smooth.

^^ Uruguay will be playing for 1st place to avoid Argentina. Great win by Uruguay helped by SA not showing up at all. I think Forlan is in my fantasy team too

Personally I feel uruguay completely dominated SA. They did their homework and denied them the ability to play.
I was impressed, reminded me of italy in 2006, not pretty but gets the job done.

No one likes to see the hosts fail, but on the plus side I'm hoping this results in less vuvuzela.

It's not a conspiracy, yatagarasu. It's called a wire service, to which news outlets subscribe. "Staff reporter" is a byline used worldwide to mark a wire report.

Funny that, I read the exact same word for word article on another site. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/match/report/54630/South-Africa-vs-Uruguay

URUGUAYYYYY!!!! :D :D :D
What a first goal by Forlan, took a pretty big deflection but was still an awesome goal. The penalty..... I think keeper definitely caught Suarez but I will admit he made the most of it. So I don't know. The keeper nearly saved it, but it was a great penalty by Forlan. And then the third goal, last minute of the game basically and 10 vs 11. But it was nothing more than we deserved. Uruguay were completely dominant.

The fact is that Uruguay just did not play all that well here, despite the result. I mean they played OK, but nothing brillliant. South Africa looked mentally tired from their heroic first match, and barely got a shot on goal. I couldn't help thinking that if Australia were in this group instead of Uruguay, we would already have just about qualified... What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Hosts See Red As Forlan Runs Riot? HOST nation South Africa were left facing the prospect of an early World Cup exit after slumping to defeat at the hands of a Diego Forlan-inspired Uruguay in Pretoria today.Have your say.
