Yeah, ask Robbie Slater about how loved Venables was... dullsville rocket wrote:Buckley nothing but a Demetriou clone. Give Craig Foster a go he thinks he knows all about the game You must be a f*cking "Heineken" clone, cause that's the most retarded comment of the day.

phutbol wrote: As I've said previously elsewhere, how many truly top level managers (in the mould of capello, mourinho, Hiddink, Mancini, benitez etc) would consider a long term position with the socceroos for the sort of money on offer? My guess would be less than 1....
That guess is based on your in-depth, intimate knowledge of football managers, is it? Based on decades of working with them at the top level, no doubt. LOL. Please.

why has the FFA sprung this story now? Probably to take the focus off the crap that's going on in the Socceroos camp in Sth Africa? Sounds like there's something not quite right in Sth Africa with the FFA / Verbeek / and team...

I doubt this is JUST Buckley's judgement alone - like the appointment of Fury's coach, It's LIKELY Han Berger is having a strong say in the appointment of the next coach!

No top-class manager is going to want to do this job for four years. We're going to be choosing from the next crop, the next step down from that, the managers that have the potential and that want to make themselves into the elite managers in a decade's time. We have to sell ourselves and the manager's four year investment as a stepping stone to that goal.

They should wait until they've seen my resume 8-[ RJL25 wrote:Davstar - who cares if Ben's knowledge of football is limited? Thats not his job, his job is to run the business that is the FFA and appoint head coaches and technical directors to worry about the actual game.
Edited by RJL25: 17/6/2010 12:53:30 PM It's not his job to hire the man in the end. The last say will go to someone with more technical knowledge anyway. We have a technical director for a reason. Quote:Give Craig Foster a go he thinks he knows all about the game Or we could hire someone with a little more coaching skill. Like a house brick.

IIRC, we saw the same spiel before we hired Verbeek and he was our third choice coach after the two coaches we actually wanted turned us down. Sounds like the search is going well.

Edited by RJL25: 17/6/2010 12:53:30 PM I would think that a good knowledge of football would be helpful when appointing a coach for the national team and technical directors. Can you imagine him interviewing an applicant and asking how the applicant intended on playing and developing the national team... The applicant then talking of formations, styles, etc., making comparisons with other nations, players, etc. Talking of coaching systems, philosophies, etc., and all the time Ben smiling blankly back, nodding his head and thinking "sounds good, I wish I knew what he was talking about though"

Buckley has offered Graham Arnold more money than the Mariners did.
Whoever they pick, he'll renig on the agreement and go coach a Russion billionaire's club side.
Then we'll pick some arrogant out of work Dutch prick who couldn't give a shit about Australian football.
Sound familiar?
