Go for the win as big as we can. Forget about Germany and Ghana as we can't fix that result (or can we?). If we beat Serbia 2/3-0 then we have given ourselves the best chance and shown oursleves we deserve to be in the final 16

Yeah, I'm not expecting much from this either. I pretty much gave up on making the round of 16 after the Ghana game. I'm only going to watch his game because the World Cup only comes around once every 4 years.

The Serbians are no push-overs and they will be playing to get into the round of 16 as much as us.

It will take a miracle for us to make the round of 16. The German game really killed us in the end.

Ah well, anyway, it's time to just relax and enjoy our last game at the World Cup. Come on Australia, let's beat Serbia and finish on a high. :)

I'm more worried about us scoring 2 than the Germans being able to score 3. If the Germans go ahead, Ghana will chase the game and get picked off on the counter. On the other hand we will struggle to get 2 and more than likely concede. You can put money on the fact at some point in the second half we will be a goal away from going though and it will turn to shit, just the way its been going for us so far.

Something tells me the socceroos will have a more attacking mindset for this game.

Unfortunately, I think the Serbians will be aware of this and will be looking to go for a quick counter at every opportunity.

If both Germany and us win 2-0, our goal difference will be -2 and Ghana's will be -1. one of the results needs to be 3-0 for us to go through....

You're right.

Still, Ghana have scored 2. 3 would be enough.

But we have only scored 3 if that comes about. 1 against Ghana and then a hypothetical 2 against Serbia.

They look at goals scored before head to head, which if your scenario comes about would be us going through as Ghana have only scored two and your scenario would have us scoring 4. After head to head it's drawing lots.

It never goes alphabetical (which we would win anyway, A comes before G).

Ok forget what I wrote: here are the rules.

According to Article 39 of the FIFA rules, the tiebreaker is as follows, in order of preference:

(1) Total points earned
(2) Total goal differential
(3) Total goals scored
(4) Points earned among matches played amongst tied teams (there can be 3 tied teams)
(5) Goal differential among matches played amongst tied teams
(6) Goals scored among matches played amongst tied teams
(7) Drawing of lots

What happens if Germany beat Ghana 2-0 and Australia beats Serbia 2-0. Goal difference is exact.

From what I heard they they do head to head with Ghana. It was a draw and then they go alphbetical? That can't be true.

Well actually Pim, if we go for an all-out assault on Serbia and can get a good goal difference then we give ourselves quite a good chance. Sure it relies on the Germany+Ghana result, but we have to play positive and give ourselves the best chance possible.
